We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Environmental Coordinator to join our client's team in Piet Retief. The Environmental Coordinator will be responsible for implementing and overseeing environmental programs and initiatives to ensure compliance with local, regional, and national environmental regulations.
Responsibilities:- Develop and implement environmental policies and procedures in accordance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Conduct regular environmental audits and assessments to identify potential risks and areas for improvement.
- Monitor and track environmental performance metrics to measure progress and identify opportunities for sustainability initiatives.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to promote environmental awareness and best practices.
- Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulatory agencies as required.
- Stay current on environmental laws, regulations, and industry trends to ensure compliance and best practices are maintained.
- Oversee the planning and implementation of environmental projects, including waste management, recycling programs, and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Conduct training and awareness sessions for employees on environmental issues and best practices.
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental compliance and management.
- Advanced computer literacy.
- Knowledge of local environmental regulations and standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and environmental management software.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Salary: Negotiable, based on experience (e.g., R400K/yr – R500K/yr).

MAIN PURPOSE
The Group HSE Operations Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and aligning Health, Safety, and Environmental practices across all regional operations and group companies. This role ensures that regional HSE Officers and Specialists
implement and maintain compliance with national legislation and international standards such as ISO 45001, ISO 14001, MHSA, and OHS Act requirements. The coordinator will lead cross-regional consistency, drive performance, support
strategic initiatives, and provide expert guidance on operational HSE matters. This role plays a key part in embedding a strong HSE culture across the organization and includes direct leadership, mentoring, and performance oversight of team members within the HSE Operations Department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY
- Coordinate and support all Regional Operations HSE Officers and the HSE Strategy & Compliance Specialist to ensure aligned practices and standards.
- Monitor and ensure compliance across all regional sites and group companies with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, MHSA, OHS Act, and other relevant legislation and standards.
- Facilitate the implementation of HSE strategies and programs aligned with group-level objectives.
- Review and validate HSE performance reports, incident investigations, risk assessments, and audit outcomes.
- Identify trends, high-risk areas, and opportunities for improvement, initiating proactive measures and strategic support.
- Drive the standardization of operational procedures, checklists, and training across regions.
- Provide subject matter expertise in complex operational health, safety, and environmental matters.
- Collaborate with Group HSE Compliance and Strategy roles to ensure operational input aligns with certification and regulatory frameworks.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including internal audits, peer reviews, and benchmarking.
- Coordinate with all departments for integrated safety planning.
- Develop and support group-wide HSE campaigns, workshops, and toolbox talks.
- Report key findings and progress to Top Management
- Provide leadership and guidance to Regional HSE team members, including performance reviews, mentorship, and succession planning.
- Foster a high-performance team culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Provide oversight and leadership across HSE operations within all group companies.
- Ensure group-wide alignment on strategic HSE objectives, metrics, and initiatives.
- Act as a champion for HSE leadership development and drive capability building across the operational HSE team.
- Represent the company in external audits, legal proceedings, industry bodies, or regulatory consultations as needed.
- Ensure that safety leadership, employee engagement, and behavior-based safety initiatives are promoted and embedded.
- Lead crisis management and emergency preparedness initiatives across all operational sites.
- Ensure all team members have clear objectives and development plans aligned with business goals.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- National Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 Lead Auditor certification.
- SAMTRAC or equivalent recognized SHE qualification.
- NEBOSH International General Certificate or equivalent (advantageous).
Experience:
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive HSE experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or coordination role.
- Proven experience in HSE program implementation, training facilitation, and promoting compliance across multiple sites or regions.
- Computer skills (MS Office package)
- Valid driver’s license
- Advanced knowledge of MHSA, OHSAS 18001, POPIA, and environmental legislation applicable to industrial operations.
