About This Opportunity
The RAN Optimization Engineer is responsible for end-to-end Radio Access Network (RAN) performance, ensuring service quality and KPI compliance across 2G to 5G technologies. The role involves analyzing network KPIs, drive test results, and customer experience data, while supporting optimization campaigns, preparing performance reports, and managing customer/third-party interactions to enhance overall network quality.
What you will do
- Monitor, analyze, and optimize RAN KPIs for 2G/3G/4G/5G to ensure SLA compliance and customer satisfaction.
- Perform proactive and reactive performance monitoring to identify degradation trends and improvement opportunities.
- Benchmark and track daily/weekly/monthly KPI performance dashboards.
- Conduct root cause analysis for KPI deviations, call drops, throughput degradation, handover failures, and latency issues.
- Provide tuning and parameter optimization (coverage, capacity, and quality optimization).
- Recommend and implement feature activation, parameter changes, and hardware/software upgrades.
- Analyze drive test results and make recommendations for parameter changes and site-level corrections.
- Support optimization campaigns (e.g., Umlaut, P3, Opensignal benchmarking) to ensure top ranking in customer experience.
- Validate field data (DT, CEM, TEMS, NEMO, etc.) and verify improvements post-optimization.Act as interface with 3rd party teams such as Operations, Field Maintenance, and Core teams to align on actions.
- Document optimization activities, solutions applied, and results achieved.
The Skill you bring
- Strong knowledge of multi-technology RAN (2G/3G/4G/5G) optimization and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with drive test tools (TEMS, NEMO, GENEX Probe, Actix, etc.).
- Solid understanding of RAN features, parameters, and performance KPIs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- 4–7 years of experience in RAN optimization and performance management.
- Experience in Managed Services environment preferred.
- Familiarity with Ericsson equipment, tools and products.
- Knowledge of scripting, data analysis (Excel, SQL, Python, etc.) is an advantage.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesKEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor the existing radio frequency network and ensure maximum availability, with minimum downtime.
- Maintain, repair and upgrade the existing radio frequency network, of high sites and repeater sites.
- In consultation with the Network Planning Personnel, identify areas where RF coverage is inadequate and commission new sites in these areas.
- Manage an effective preventative maintenance plan, pertaining specifically to the radio frequency network.
- Install, maintain, repair, and upgrade the network of telemetry field units, used to test customer’s vehicles.
- Manage an effective inventory control system, relating specifically to the various components of the radio frequency network.
- Manage configuration control and engineering change procedures and documentation.
- Manage all fixed assets relating to the network and ensure that they are maintained in a serviceable condition at all times.
- Ensure that any work carried out to the radio frequency network is completed in the most cost-effective manner.
- Liaise with internal/external customers on issues pertaining to the radio frequency network.
- Assist with new developments and modifications, pertaining to the radio frequency network.
- National Diploma, Higher National Diploma or a B-Tech Degree (Electrical Engineering - light current).
- Minimum of five years’ work experience, obtained within a telecommunications environment.
- Technical knowledge, relating specifically to RF systems, communication systems and antennas.
- Possess good fault finding and analytical skills.
- Possess good administrative skills.
- Be prepared to travel.
- Be computer literate (Linux, MS Windows, MS Office) and a self-starter.
