Client:
The client is a philanthropic organisation dedicated to addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development in Africa. They collaborate with governments (national, and sub-national), regional bodies, civil society, labour, research institutions and the private sector to implement innovative solutions that foster low-carbon development and climate resilience. Through grant making and fiscal hosting the client supports an ecosystem of actors across the continent working at the nexus of climate and development.
Project:
The client is supporting the establishment of the Green Minerals Support Facility (GMSF) to respond to growing demand among African critical mineral producer countries for targeted support in navigating the opportunities and risks of the global energy transition. The Facility will offer technical assistance (both rapid response and long-term advisory) to help governments enhance domestic value addition, improve ESG performance, foster South–South collaboration, and support investment mobilisation. The GMSF will be incubated by the client (or another partner organisation) with the goal of spinning off as a standalone institution.
To support the design phase, the client seeks a Junior Consultant / Project Officer to manage day-to-day coordination, documentation, and logistics. This role will provide critical operational support to the Project Manager, consultants, and Steering Committee, ensuring meetings are well-prepared, records are properly maintained, and project tracking systems are kept up to date.

Requirements
Experience Required:
- 2–5 years' experience in project coordination, preferably in development, energy, or extractives.

Technical Requirements:
- Advanced degree (Master's or higher) in public policy, development economics, natural resource governance, or related field.

With support from NORAD, Hivos is implementing a project called 'Connect, Defend, Act'. To respond to the issue of shrinking civic space and amplify civil society-led action, the "Connect, Defend, Act" (CDA) project supports Civil Society Actors in Colombia, Indonesia, Malawi and the occupied Palestinian territory in their efforts to defend and expand civic space through three strategic objectives:
- By promoting coalition building among diverse Civil Society Actors, including Human Rights Defenders, Rights holder-led civil society organizations and independent media actors, grounded in civil society-led evidence gathering and knowledge production, and facilitated by context-specific Communities of Action.
- By contributing to safe and inclusive digital civic spaces for sustained collaboration and action among Civil Society Actors through localized holistic digital security capacity strengthening, knowledge production and active referral to digital protection providers.
- By increasing Civil Society Actors' flexibility to rapidly respond to changes in civic space through organizational capacity strengthening and the provision of strategic funding for sustainable action.
The project aims to strategically support relevant actors within civil society whose work actively contributes to civic space from the perspective of different sectors and interests, while particularly including groups who are marginalized within civil society, such as women, youth, Indigenous People and others.
Role purposeThe Project Officer will provide technical advice, assistance and capacity building under the Connect, Defend, Act Project and support planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting at country and regional level.
ResponsibilitiesThe key responsibilities of the role include:
Project management
- Oversee the day-to-day implementation of project activities in alignment with project goals and objectives.
- Facilitate the formation and strengthening of coalitions among diverse Civil Society Actors, including Human Rights Defenders, rights holder-led organizations, and independent media actors.
- Support the development and implementation of digital security initiatives to enhance the safety and resilience of Civil Society Actors in online spaces.
- Provide support to Civil Society Actors in enhancing their organizational capacity, including governance structures, financial management, and strategic planning.
- Assist in the identification and allocation of strategic funding to support sustainable action by Civil Society Actors, ensuring alignment with project goals and priorities.
- Contribute to the production of evidence-based knowledge products, including research reports, policy briefs, and case studies, to inform advocacy efforts and decision-making.
- Facilitate community engagement and participation in project activities, ensuring the inclusion of marginalized groups such as women, youth, and Indigenous People.
- Provide active referral and support to Civil Society Actors in accessing digital protection resources and services, including digital security tools and training.
- Conduct ongoing analysis of the socio-political context in project locations to inform strategic decision-making and adaptation of project approaches.
- Ensure project activities are implemented in a conflict-sensitive manner, taking into account the local context and dynamics to minimize potential harm and maximize positive impact.

Provide specialist technical assistance and advice to support the development and implementation of the Connect, Defend, Act project
- Establish links with relevant technical specialists, both within the region and internationally, and draw on these to provide technical advice and inputs.
- Ensure all reports are of high quality and completed in a timely manner.
- Support the Project Manager with the planning and implementation of project activities including setting annual and / or periodic workplans budgets and activity schedules
- Ensure that all activities are in line with the funding agreement and comply with donor and Hivos requirements.
- Project progress information is provided on a timely basis and when required for reporting and management decision making
- Ensure that activities are well linked to the project log frame and budget for ease of reference and reporting.

About the Role
The Project Officer, Community Engagement will play a key role in coordinating, implementing, and monitoring community-based activities under the Combating Malnutrition in Rwanda through Sustainable Food Systems (CMR-FS) programme. Operating across the five target districts in Rwanda's Western Province, the officer will be based in Nyamasheke district. This role will be offered on a fixed term contract basis running until end of December 2026, subject to availability of funding.
They will support community-level engagement by mobilizing and working closely with key local actors, including Community Health Workers (CHWs), Early Childhood Development (ECD) volunteers, healthcare providers, and private sector stakeholders engaged in the programme's core value chains: High-Iron Beans, Eggs, Large-Scale Food Fortification (LSFF), and the tea estate sector.
Working in collaboration with district authorities and existing coordination platforms, the officer will support the delivery of nutrition-sensitive interventions designed to strengthen local food systems. This includes facilitating community mobilization sessions, organizing and supporting stakeholder training, and promoting access to nutritious foods. This role directly contributes to improving the availability, accessibility, and affordability of healthy diets, aligning with national priorities to enhance household dietary diversity, food security, and child nutrition outcomes through sustainable and locally anchored food systems.
Key Responsibilities include
- Collaborate with the Project Manager Community Engagement to support operational delivery and monitor the community-based nutrition activities.
- Work with local authorities, CHWs, ECD Centres, and tea estate communities to implement nutrition interventions at Health center, community, and ECD levels.
- Facilitate participatory processes involving local stakeholders to implement SBCC campaigns and emo-demos ensuring culturally appropriate and relevant messaging.
- Support the Project Manager in designing and implementing activities on tea estates.
- Support the training and supervision of local facilitators and field practitioners on the use of SBCC materials and emo-demo toolkits.

About you
You should have demonstrable experience in community-based project implementation handling activities such as community mobilization sessions, organizing and supporting stakeholder training, and promotion activities within local communities. Experience implementing project activities within tea estates combined with knowledge of SBCC approaches will be an added advantage. Experience working with community health structures such as CHWs, ECDs is required among other stakeholders such as SMEs and cooperatives.
The position holder should demonstrate excellent project management skills with the ability to operate independently with minimal supervision. Good interpersonal skills are required to succeed in this role combined with familiarity with nutrition sensitive agriculture, SBCC or food systems programming.
An education background with a bachelor's degree in nutrition, Public Health, Foods science, or related field is required.

It will promote regional integration, foster sustainable social and economic development, and build bridges between the people and communities of Southern African countries through the development of attractive and meaningful culture and heritage-based itineraries. UNESCO is seeking a Project Assistant to provide overall administrative and logistical support for the smooth implementation of the project in close collaboration with all key partners, particularly the EU Delegations in the 6 countries, national authorities and local communities.
Under the overall authority of the UNESCO Regional Director and Representative for Southern Africa, the direct supervision of the Head of Culture Unit, the Project Assistant will provide overall administrative and logistical support to the project team. This post will be based in Pretoria, South Africa and specific tasks and responsibilities will include the following:
Provide administrative support to the Project Coordinator and the Project Communication and M&E Officer to effectively implement the project in the 6 participating countries.
Assist in planning and organization of meetings, workshops, conferences, and other events relating to project, ensuring that all logistics such as hotel and conference bookings as well as transportation are in place.
Prepare draft TORs for various contracts for service providers supporting Projects.
Prepare payment requests and follow-up to ensure that service providers receive their funds on time.
Develop and implement a tracking system for all contracts to ensure that deliverables are submitted on time and report any delays to the Supervisor on time.
Follow-up with implementation partners to ensure timely delivery of work plans, budgets, and procurement plans for the project.
Participate in Project meetings and workshops and take Minutes for proper record keeping.
Support communication and visibility efforts for the project by assisting in the production of communication materials publications brochures etc.
Maintain e-files as well as paper files for the Project in compliance with the Organization's records management policy and for audit and evaluation purposes.
Undertake any other relevant activities as deemed necessary for the proper operation of the project.

EDUCATION
Completed secondary, technical and/or vocational education.
WORK EXPERIENCE
