The Opportunity
Our South Africa team is seeking a strategic, experienced OE & PMC Lead to join our dynamic team working on innovative and exciting energy infrastructure projects in Africa. This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a team in a high-priority growth area for Arup, with strong backing from global and regional leadership.
This position is based in Johannesburg or Cape Town.
You will have deep experience in one or more technical areas – such as leading multi-disciplinary teams in winning and delivery of energy projects – and a proven track record of cultivating long-term client relationships, securing impactful work, positioning an energy business for strategic growth and delivering projects successfully. Build and maintain client relationships with IPPs, Mining Companies, public agencies, and contractors.

Is this role right for you?
We are looking for people with the following skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering. Professionally registered with ECSA (Pr.Eng).
  • Project management qualification or registration preferred.
  • Proven years of experience in large scale energy infrastructure, with significant experience in Owner’s Engineer, Design (utility scale renewable energy plants or transmission (>132kV) and PMC roles).
  • Proven track record in leading large-scale energy projects (e.g., renewables, transmission, hybrid systems). Strong understanding of Africa’s energy sector, regulatory environment and delivery models.
  • Have built and maintained strong relationships in Energy industry.
  • Excellent technical leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Take full ownership of the project delivery. This includes requirements gathering & design, technical delivery, quality assurance and go to market activities
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and budget
  • Assist product management team in developing service description and project scope
  • Create and maintain a high level and detailed level project plan in line with company standards
  • Perform pro-active risk management, to identify and remediate risks in an early stage
  • Clear and accurate reporting to all stakeholders throughout the project, reporting progress against the project plan
  • Ensure company processes and best practices are enforced during the execution of your project
  • Manage and support multiple internal and external departments during project lifecycle
  • Collect, manage and communicate to all stakeholders any technical requirements and solution specifics
  • Actively participate in the project acceptance phase
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Mentoring and participating in the development of the project delivery team
What You Will Bring
  • At least 5 years' experience in Project Management in the telecommunications & IT sectors.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Telecommunications or any related course
  • Project management certification required. (PMP, Prince2 Practitioner, PM2)
  • IPMA, MSP, Six-Sigma, ITIL practitioner, or agile certification are a big advantage
  • Proven track record in delivery of complex projects with MNOs
  • Telecom VAS system integration experience required
  • Charging & Billing, Mediation, SMS, USSD, IVR, GGSN/SGSN
  • CRM, Revenue Assurance
  • Good understanding of telecommunication networks
  • Experience in go to market activities
  • Willingness to travel up to 100% during project implementation phases

The Project Delivery Manager (PDM) is accountable for overseeing multiple project squads delivering complex software implementation, customization, upgrade, and consulting projects. The PDM ensures Sybrin Project Management Standardcompliance, ISO/IEC 27001 data protection, ISO 9001 quality assurance, and alignment with client and Sybrin strategic objectives across a portfolio of approximately 18 active projects. Ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in project or program management, with a track record of delivering complex, multi-project portfolios in software delivery environments.
  • Experience working in the IT/software development industry is preferred.

Reporting Line: Project Delivery Executive

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning : Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, objectives, deliverables, milestones, timelines, resources, and budgets.
  • Resource Allocation : Allocate resources, including team members, equipment, and materials, to support project execution and ensure optimal utilization.
  • Risk Management : Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues, developing risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans as needed.
  • Stakeholder Management : Establish and maintain relationships with project stakeholders, including clients, sponsors, vendors, and team members, ensuring clear communication and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.

We are looking to recruit an IT Project Delivery Executive within the Group IT department of The Clicks Group. The role will be based at Clicks Head Office in Cape Town and will report to the Group Head of IT.

Job purpose

To manage, coordinate and monitor the successful delivery of IT projects and initiatives, in collaboration with IT and business stakeholders, in order to achieve IT project goals, scope, allocated budget and timelines in order to realise the business case, returns on IT investment and business objectives.

Job objectives

Functional Strategy Development and Alignment

  • Contribute input and participate in the design of the broader IT strategy and plans.
  • Lead the development of the Group IT project delivery methodology, principles, standards, and roadmaps aligned to group policies and strategy.
  • Connect the Group IT strategy to the transformation journey enabling execution of strategic programmes across the Group.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the organization's industry, market dynamics, local and global trends, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities and challenges where project delivery can play a pivotal role in both business strategy and IT project delivery.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, market dynamics, and competitors and use this knowledge to identify opportunities and potential threats that may impact IT project delivery and overall business success.

IT Project Management and Delivery and Operational Excellence

  • Evaluate and understand the Group IT environment and business needs and develop a long-term IT project delivery strategy.
  • Develop and maintain an agile, high-level portfolio and programme roadmap depicting the value delivery of all strategic initiatives, covering the implementation of major strategic goals aligned with business plans and requirements.
  • Lead and monitor the delivery of IT projects from initiation through planning, execution, monitoring, and control to its final closure, and ensure that IT projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Analyse dependencies between initiatives and the impact on benefit realisation, highlighting issues to the leadership.
  • Assess work stream status and progress by engaging with the respective Project Owners, steering committees, and business forums.
  • Coordinate change management efforts within IT Project Delivery and help the team adapt to new processes, methodologies, or technologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Report on the progress and success of all strategy execution and transformation initiatives within the Group.
  • Ensure that the right resources, including personnel, tools, and technologies, are allocated to each project based on project priorities and the company's strategic goals.

Stakeholder and Relationship Management

  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders through collaboration, teaming, consensus building and interpersonal effectiveness.
  • Provide specialist advice to business leaders and stakeholders IT Project Delivery strategies and become a trusted IT advisor and partner.
  • Communicate IT Project Delivery strategies and progress to foster alignment and understanding across the organization.

People Management

  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Project Delivery department to measure its effectiveness and impact on the organization.
  • Set clear performance management plans, evaluate current capabilities, identify gaps, and prioritise functional and people improvement initiatives.
  • Empower employees, drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement to enable a high-performance culture.
  • Ensure that the team has adequate capacity with the right skills/competencies at the right place and time to meet the business needs.
  • Design and maintain robust pipeline and resourcing plans that meet the enterprise needs and manage the demand and deployment of relevant resources across the organization.
  • Manage and monitor processes to recruit, onboard, develop and retain the Project Delivery team.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Manage functional processes to develop IT Project Delivery policies, standards and guidelines and champion their approval and implementation across the Group.
  • Establish, monitor, and enforce IT Project Delivery governance practices to ensure compliance with set standards and protocols.
  • Drive processes to ensure that the IT Project Delivery plans and strategy are signed off on each project decision to ensure consistency and adherence to agreed-on Project Delivery frameworks and standards.
  • Manage and monitor that the project delivery environment is well-controlled and standardized across the organization.
  • Evaluate, analyse, prepare, submit, and present required functional reports to various committees and governance structures to present progress, influence decision-making and approval processes, and provide information on variances periodically.
  • Maintain effective processes and procedures and maintain data integrity to meet organizational and regulatory requirements.

Education

  • Business Information Studies/Information Technology/Systems Engineering or a related field.
  • A certification in Project Management i.e., PMP (Project Management Professional), PRINCE2, or PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner).

Job-related knowledge

  • Leverage deep IT knowledge to analyse complex business requirements.
  • Solid knowledge of Project delivery and Project management with progressively increasing responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of industry trends and challenges is valuable for aligning IT projects with business needs.

Job-related experience

  • With first degree, 10-12 years of relevant IT experience with 5 years of experience in a Senior Management role; or

The PDM ensures Sybrin Project Management Standardcompliance, ISO/IEC 27001 data protection, ISO 9001 quality assurance, and alignment with client and Sybrin strategic objectives across a portfolio of approximately 18 active projects. Ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standardsQualifications and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent preferred. Minimum of 7 years of experience in project or program management, with a track record of delivering complex, multi-project portfolios in software delivery environments. Experience working in the IT/software development industry is preferred. Reporting Line: Project Delivery Executive Key Responsibilities: Project Planning : Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, objectives, deliverables, milestones, timelines, resources, and budgets. Resource Allocation : Allocate resources, including team members, equipment, and materials, to support project execution and ensure optimal utilization. Risk Management : Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues, developing risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans as needed. Stakeholder Management : Establish and maintain relationships with project stakeholders, including clients, sponsors, vendors, and team members, ensuring clear communication and alignment throughout the project lifecycle. Team Leadership : Lead and motivate project teams, providing direction, guidance, and support to achieve project goals and objectives. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence. Quality Assurance : Implement quality assurance processes and standards to ensure project deliverables meet or exceed client expectations and quality benchmarks. Change Management : Manage changes to project scope, schedule, and budget, assessing impacts and communicating effectively with stakeholders to ensure alignment and approval. Project Monitoring and Control : Monitor project progress, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and identify variances from the project plan. Take corrective actions as needed to keep the project on track. Reporting and Documentation : Prepare and present regular project status reports, updates, and dashboards to stakeholders, providing insights into project performance, risks, and issues. Lessons Learned : Conduct post-project reviews and lessons learned sessions to evaluate project performance, identify areas for improvement, and capture best practices for future projects. Client Satisfaction : Ensure client satisfaction by delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Address client concerns and requests promptly and professionally. Continuous Improvement : Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project management processes, methodologies, and tools, leveraging industry best practices and lessons learned. Critical Technical and Behavioural Skills Required: Strong understanding of project management methodologies, tools, and best practices, such as Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and Kanban. Proficiency in project management software such as Microsoft Project. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire project teams and stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to identify and address complex project issues and risks. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously. Manage project-level financial reviews including gross and net profit tracking, and revenue recognition. Lead escalation and management of risks and compliance issues. Oversee squad productivity, capacity planning, and performance KPIs. Enforce governance, audits, and compliance checks across the portfolio.
