  • Utilise systems and processes developed and ensure compliance to best practices. Drive the continual improvement and integration of systems and processes, leveraging technology to drive efficiency and sustainability.
  • Promote innovative approaches to production and warehouse operations, aiming to reduce costs, improve product quality, and ensure sustainable growth.
  • Ensuring procurement strategies includes health and safety factors and focus on continuous development for yourself and people in your team.

  • Degree in Chemistry / Chemical Engineering

  • 3-5 years' experience in Chemical Manufacturing and Warehouse Administration
  • Previous experience and knowledge in Chemical Raw Material Sourcing
  • Knowledge of Chemical manufacturing/blending
  • Quality Control / ISO 9001 implementation and maintenance
  • Chemical detergent and disinfectant Industry exposure
  • Inventory Management

What You Will Do

  • Co-ordinate, control and coach the activities of the team in the Production and Warehouse areas.
  • Ensures GMP, EHS and Quality requirements are met in the area of responsibility.
  • To ensure that products are produced and stored according to the appropriate documentation in order to obtain the required quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Quality and Compliance:

  • Ensures compliance of production related activities with all relevant quality, compliance legislation, SOP's, Master Instructions and JnJ policies as delegated by the Responsible Pharmacist. Therefore, there is a pharmaceutical reporting line to the Responsible Pharmacist.
  • Ensures that relevant SOP's, manufacturing procedures and packing documentation are prepared and reviewed
  • Ensures GMP by maintaining production area and equipment in a clean and good working order; maintaining tidiness and minimising cross contamination risks
  • Manages & over-sees manufacturing operations & ensures batches are manufactured according to registered methods
  • Participates in management reviews as per GMP requirements

EHS:

  • Ensures product is manufactured to the required EHS standards and guidelines
  • Implements EHS SOPs and MAPs
  • Ensures that staff fully complies to PPE requirements in the production area
  • Monitors waste generation and implement waste reduction action plans

Production planning and scheduling

  • Schedules agreed production plan in conjunction with planners to optimise manufacturing operations to achieve maximum utilization of resources
  • Ensures capacity is available, including people, equipment and materials in order to execute the required production plan
  • Ensures necessary communication forums are in place for personnel, e.g. morning feedback meetings.
  • Liaises with support functions to facilitate the production plan

Production/Operations:

  • Executes production activities in accordance with agreed production plan.
  • Optimizes utilization of manufacturing resources to achieve cost efficient usage of labour, capacity and materials
  • Drives performance to ensure that Production targets are met
  • Initiates trouble-shooting, problem solving and resolution of any obstacles in achieving agreed supply plan
  • Ensures that company scorecard goals and objectives are achieved
  • Ensures continuous improvement to reduce costs, increase productivity and improve quality
  • Encourages staff participation in process improvement projects

Maintenance:

  • Ensures plant and equipment are managed and maintained to achieve optimal performance

  • Ensures all change over's done as per the required work standard

Human Resources:

  • Manages and motivates staff to achieve the agreed production plan
  • Ensures all staff is trained in accordance with the identified training plans
  • Manages all staff in accordance with BCEA, LRA, EE Plan, Grievance and Disciplinary Code
  • Recruits and appoints suitably qualified staff in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Develops annual employee goals and objectives and conducts performance appraisals as per guidelines
  • Identify development and retention opportunities for employees to ensure business continuity

Finance:

  • Develops and manages the annual budget for the Production and Warehouse areas
  • Tracks performance against agreed standard for material and labour and takes corrective action accordingly
  • Identifies CAPEX requirements to optimize performance
  • Creates and manages the required CARs for execution in the respective areas

Delegation:

  • In case of absence of the Key Role individual, assume responsibility for key activities in the following role, as Delegate 1 for Site Leader.

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Pharmaceutical Diploma/Degree or equivalent qualification
  • 10 to 12 years manufacturing experience of which 5 years should be at a Management Level
  • Additional managerial qualification would be advantageous
  • Projects/Continuous Improvement/Maintenance management experience and skills
  • Lean/Six Sigma experience will be advantageous
  • A strong track record in building, managing and motivating high performing teams
  • Must be able to work under pressure
  • Must be customer focused
  • Previous OTC or practice in Pharma would be an added benefit for the role.

Required Qualifications:

Advanced Certificate or Diploma in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or related field

Required Experience:

  • Experience with ERP systems (preferably Acumatica) in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with APS concepts and tools (e.g., finite capacity scheduling, constraint-based planning).
  • Familiarity with advanced scheduling tools and software to optimise production processes.
  • Understanding of scheduling principles, including lead times, critical path and dependencies.
  • Ability to balance team workloads, avoid bottlenecks, and ensure optimal use of available resources
  • Understanding how material availability and inventory levels affect production schedules and delivery commitments.
  • Ability to analyse system data and reports to identify trends, anticipate disruptions, and recommend proactive solutions
  • Skill in identifying scheduling risks and developing contingency plans.
  • Ability to generate clear, actionable reports and communicate scheduling status and risks to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis) and/or similar analytical tools for schedule data manipulation.

ABOUT THE POSITION

As our DTP & Production Team Lead, you will be responsible for managing the design-to-print process, ensuring artwork is accurately prepared, optimised, and delivered on time. This includes overseeing new media projects - providing input on costing, testing concepts, and producing samples - while maintaining high-quality production standards. The role also involves leading and developing the DTP team through performance reviews, training, and daily workflow management. Additionally, the Team Lead ensures compliance with health and safety requirements and drives continuous improvement in production efficiency and quality.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

New Media Focus

  • Provide input and support on new media costing and provide a production breakdown (Trello)
  • Submit new media ideas - KPI
  • Test new media
  • Assist with sourcing elements/components for new media
  • Make up new media samples as required

DTP

  • Setup artwork for print
  • All jobs must be checked and feedback provided within 24 hours of receiving artwork.
  • Impose approved artwork to be set up optimally using the space on the correct substrate.
  • Effectively manage and prioritize jobs in order to meet respective deadlines.
  • Setting up prints for vehicle wrapping (measuring, minimal waste, plotter cutting, weeding marks, etc.).
  • Stock knowledge (what substrate to use for what and size).
  • Approve/sign off print sample at large format digital printer(s).
  • Approve/sign off cut file sample.
  • Investigate and implement preventative actions for problems.

Management of Team (DTP)

  • Conduct one-on-one reviews on a monthly basis to ensure that the team is operating at the optimum level.
  • Conduct quarterly performance scoring reviews.
  • Provide support, guidance and instructions
  • Absenteeism Management
  • Recruit the best candidates for the positions available
  • Ensure that all training interventions are of highest quality
  • Motivate and promote a positive team spirit.
  • Drive daily update meetings with team.

Health & Safety (Assist)

  • Keep risk assessment plan on schedule
  • Ensure PPE is in good condition.
  • Ensure that PPE is worn by team members.
  • Eliminate safety risks in the printing area.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

  • Matric / Grade 12
  • DTP / Graphic Design diploma (with relevant programs)
  • Minimum 4 years' experience as a DTP Operator
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in digital or litho printing environment

Knowledge

  • Understanding of Digital printing processes
  • Understanding of Litho printing processes
  • Knowledge of the various available substrates used in the digital and Litho processes
  • Knowledge of various available image formats and compatibility with printing
  • Good English language skills (spelling, grammar)
