Buyer – Construction, Plant & Logistics | Johannesburg

We're looking for a results-driven Buyer to manage procurement, plant, and logistics across our active construction projects. You'll play a direct role in improving project GP% by procuring materials and services below tender BOQ rates.

What you'll do:

  1. Source, negotiate, and procure construction materials, plant, equipment, and subcontracted services — obtaining competitive quotes and issuing purchase orders within budget
  2. Manage the company's owned and hired plant fleet, including allocation, utilisation, maintenance tracking, and cost recovery across sites
  3. Plan and coordinate all logistics and transport of materials and equipment to and from sites, optimising costs through consolidated loads and route planning
  4. Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, plant hire companies, and transporters — including BBBEE-compliant vendors
  5. Monitor procurement and logistics costs against budgets, identifying savings without compromising quality or programme delivery
  6. Ensure full compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and maintain accurate documentation for audits

What you'll need:

  • 5–8 years' buying/procurement experience in construction or civil engineering
  • Proven plant and logistics management background
  • Proficient in ERP systems (BuildSmart, SAP, Sage, or similar) and MS Excel
  • Strong negotiation skills and commercial acumen
