Job Description

The successful candidate will also be responsible for resource allocation, actively participating in the Commission's committees, administering and executing activities to build capacity for research, report writing and correspondence. As the Principal Analyst you will be required to strategically lead, direct and manage the market inquiry technical team as well as supervise a team of analysts.

(A starting annual total cost to company package of R negotiable commensurate with experience)

Please note this position is available on a five (5) year fixed-term contract, renewable.

Key Accountabilities

The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include:

  • Lead and manage a technical team of senior analysts, analysts and junior analysts within a market inquiry.
  • Provide leadership in the determination of the scope of a market inquiry, the identification of issues to be assessed by the market inquiry, and the evidence required to analyse those issues.
  • Provide leadership during the investigation phases of a market inquiry, including the development of information requests and survey instruments required to gather evidence, interviewing key market participants and taking the lead during public hearings.
  • Conceptualise and develop the analytical framework for assessing the issues identified in a market inquiry, including research of international best practices and jurisdictional approaches to similar issues.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to the technical team of senior analysts, analysts and junior analysts in the market inquiry with regards to economic/ legal analysis.
  • Take lead in the formulation of potential remedies required to address competition distortions identified by the market inquiry.
  • Take lead in the monitoring of compliance with the recommendations and remedial actions of a market inquiry.
  • Lead engagements with stakeholders on investigative issues, evidence and remedial actions.
  • Provide regular updates to the Divisional Manger and Inquiry Panel on the progress of the market inquiry, including outcomes of research and the analysis of evidence.
  • Present verbal and written reports to the Inquiry Panel, the Divisional Manager and the Commissioners for discussion and decision-making.
  • Lead post-inquiry litigation support.
  • Administer and execute activities to build capacity for research, report writing and presentation.
  • Act as a representative of the Commission within the framework of the Competition Act when communicating with business, consumers, government agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in organisational and inter-divisional activities within the Commission, including participating in the Commission's middle management forums.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and operational management of the Market Inquiry Division, including leading sub-committees established by the Division.

We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking and a committed individual who meets the following requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Economics.
  • At least 8 years work experience in complex economic analysis of which 3 years must have been at a supervisory/ managerial level. It would be advantageous if the experience is in economic regulation and/ or competition.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in managing research projects.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Proven Project Management experience.
  • Proven people management skills.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Competition Act, the Competition Commission and the South African economy is highly recommended.

**Required Knowledge and Experience:**

**A Day in the Life**
This is an exciting opportunity for a high potential, analytical, pro-active candidate to join the Cardiovascular Strategic Pricing Team. This person, reporting to the Senior Pricing Strategy Manager Cardiovascular EurAsia, acts as the liaison between the Marketing and Offer Development teams for Pricing responsibilities including creation of new product pricing, scenario modeling and financial analysis. The individual will also provide guidance to Marketing on fine tuning new product pricing strategies, implementation of Marketing promotions and tracking price volume initiatives. With in-depth knowledge and understanding of company products, pricing programs and market trends, the individual will help to establish strategic pricing processes, procedures as well as pricing analytic models and drive decision making discussions in the best interest of Medtronic as well as own portfolio projects protecting the value proposition of our products .This person will interact with Marketing, Shared Services, Legal, Sales, Finance and Offer Development team members during the pricing development process.

**Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:**
+ Lead the development and evolution of strategic pricing frameworks across the sub-region, ensuring alignment with long-term business objectives, portfolio dynamics, and market realities.
+ Act as a business partner to sub-regional leadership, marketing, and commercial teams, providing strategic guidance on pricing roadmap development, value-based segmentation, and market access readiness.
+ Shape pricing strategies for new product launches and commercial models by translating procedural trends, competitive insights, and economic value drivers into clear, sustainable pricing direction.
+ Guide the integration of strategic pricing decisions into planning cycles, business cases, and lifecycle management, helping drive sustainable profitability and market growth.
+ Own the pricing input into the Integrated Business Planning (IBP) cycle, including ASP planning across portfolios.
+ Collaborate with regional and global stakeholders to localize pricing governance frameworks, build pricing capabilities, and ensure consistency in execution across countries.
**Required Knowledge and Experience:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance or Business Administration.
+ Min 5 years of experience in pricing, commercial finance.
+ Strong proficiency in Excel and comfortable with various simulations.
+ Problem solving, solution finding and decision making oriented; the candidate has to master navigating through a complex matrix environment with multi-cultural & multi-functional components.
+ An entrepreneurial / proactive approach is required to design new concepts / processes and successfully drive internal buy-in from all levels of the organization.

The company is looking for an experienced and dynamic Business Intelligence, Analysis & Systems Manager to lead our team of Business Analysts. This strategic role is key to bridging the gap between what the business needs and the technology solutions available. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the entire lifecycle of system enhancements—from scoping and design through to deployment—and ensuring the ongoing stability of these systems via dedicated application support. Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the performance and professional development of the Business Intelligence team.
  • Allocate BI and BA resources effectively across projects and support activities, ensuring optimal workload distribution.

  • Set clear objectives, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback to team members.

Application Support Management

  • Establish and oversee a Tier 2 support desk managed by the BI team for business-critical applications and systems.
  • Ensure timely triage, prioritization and resolution of incoming support tickets, bugs, and data-related queries.
  • Analyse support trends to identify root causes, recommending permanent solutions such as system enhancements, bug fixes, or improved user training.
  • Act as a key escalation point for complex or high-priority issues, coordinating with technical teams to ensure swift resolution.
  • Manage communication with business users regarding ticket status, resolution timelines, and system outages.

System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) Management

  • Oversee the scoping of operational system changes, working closely with business stakeholders to define clear requirements, deliverables, and success criteria.
  • Lead the creation of intuitive and user-centric UI/UX designs and wireframes for new features and systems.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive testing strategies, including User Acceptance Testing (UAT), to ensure solutions are robust and meet business requirements.
  • Plan and execute seamless system deployments and deliver effective user training programs.

Strategic Project Development & Execution

  • Develop and lead strategic initiatives by identifying opportunities for significant process optimisation, system innovation, or competitive advantage.
  • Construct and present compelling business cases to senior leadership, including cost-benefit analysis, ROI (ROI) projections, and feasibility studies.
  • Execute and manage strategic projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure and report on the business impact and success of strategic initiatives.

Business Intelligence & Data Governance

  • Act as a key resource for business departments, assisting with reporting needs, dashboard creation, and data analysis.
  • Support and contribute to the company's Master Data Management (MDM) strategy, ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of core business data.
  • Assist business with complex excel analysis.

QUALIFYING CRITERIA

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Systems / Computer Science / Information Technology Management. A relevant postgraduate qualification is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in a business analysis, systems analysis, or related role.
  • At least 3-5 years of proven experience in a leadership position, directly managing a team of analysts or technical professionals.
  • Demonstrable experience managing the full project lifecycle for software or system implementations.
  • Hands-on experience with business intelligence and reporting tools (e.g. SSRS, Power BI)
  • Solid understanding and practical experience with Master Data Management (MDM) principles.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and root-cause analysis ability.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to independently collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Working knowledge on translating business needs into technical specifications.
  • Experience in report writing and executive feedback.
  • Experience in managing a Tier 2 or Tier 3 application support function or help desk is highly desirable.
