Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Obtains daily production schedule and preparation requirements from the Chef.
- Prepares items on production sheets following established quantities and recipes.
- Completes and follows daily production worksheets and waste log sheets. Tastes completed meals to ensure quality.
- Operates and cleans equipment per department procedures after each use.
- Stores, labels and dates all food items according to policy. Follows HACCP guidelines.
- Completes all required documentation, reports, logs as required.
- Complies with federal, state and local health and sanitation regulations and department sanitation procedures.
- Takes orders from customer and prepare items requiring short preparation time.
- Serves customers in an efficient and friendly manner.
- Completes orders from steam tables and grill and serves customers at multiple stations.
- Uses approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control.
- Operates and cleans equipment per department procedures after each use.
- Stores, labels and dates all food items according to policy.
- Follows HACCP guidelines to ensure quality and safety of food supply.
- Resolves customer concerns.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

The Haven Night Shelter Require THE SERVICES OF A KITCHEN ASSISTANT for our Haven Old Age Home at Woodstock, Cape Town. The successful applicant will report DIRECTLY TO THE MANAGER
Minimum Duties
The Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for:
- Properly cleaning and sanitising all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.
- Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.
- Preparation of meal ingredients, which includes washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fruit, vegetables, poultry, and meat.
- Sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors as well as wiping down kitchen walls.
- Assisting with the unloading of delivered food supplies.
- Organizing and correctly storing food supplies.
- Promptly transferring meal ingredients from storage areas to the kitchen as per the Cook's instructions.
Reside in the area close to the shelter or in the surrounding areas, a chefs diploma or professional cookery certificate/food preparation programmes obtained through an accredited chefs school, minimum of 1 year previous kitchen work experience, be able to work shifts and alternate weekends, sound knowledge of food safety regulations, understanding the importance of health and safety, ability to interact with clients from different cultures and religions, manage conflict situations, excellent verbal communication skills, ability to work as a team player, be of sober habits, no criminal record, be in good health, experience in the NGO sector will be an advantage.
