Our mine, situated in the Limpopo Province about 60 kilometers from Lydenburg and 40 kilometers from Burgersfort, and is a world-class producer of Chrome Ore.

The successful applicant will report to the Chargehand or nominee.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 / Standard 10 with Mathematics / Maths literacy.
  • Relevant Trade Test.
  • Code 08 (B) Driver's Licence.
  • TMM Licences "A" Dover.
  • Advantageous: N2 Certificate

EXPERIENCE (including but not limited to):

  • 2 years practical trade specific experience in a heavy industrial / mining / plant environment.
  • 2 years practical experience on Osborn jaw crusher, dabmar screens, vibramech screens, centrifugal pumps, HMD Drum, magnetic separation and agitator.

DUTIES (including but not limited to):

  • Execute manufacturing, developing, installation, repairs, replacement and maintenance duties in support of the Plant Engineering team.
  • Ensure workshop and working environment is clean at all times. Assist in ensuring the workshop's operational functioning.
  • Plan improvement projects. Arrange for relevant quotations and submit for approval. Schedule and organize work load, spares, tools and resources according to projects, maintenance/breakdown schedule processes and procedures. Obtain permits and safe declarations to work, and related permits for work to be performed by complying with the required procedures related to work permits. Execute work against issued work order in a timeous and accurate manner. Complete work orders and return to supervisor for sign off. Conduct daily inspections, whether scheduled or ad hoc, and record feedback on work order. Conduct planning of job shown on work order to ensure job is executed in shortest space of time.
  • Conduct mini risk assessment and lock-out procedure in own area of work and within span of control.
  • Perform asset care activities as required to project/maintenance / breakdown schedule including accurate and timeous feedback and documentation to all relevant stakeholders. Operate and maintain equipment in line with requirements of Code of Practice, policies and procedures. Adhere to manufacturer's (OEM's) maintenance service requirements.
  • Ensure all equipment and tools are cleaned after use and stored in Storeroom according to labelling. Ensure that personal toolbox is in safe working condition. All equipment is inspected continuously to repair identified defects in time to prevent breakdowns, damaged equipment, injuries, and production delays and to identify future defects. Plan, order, collect and utilize parts to minimize production delays, due to equipment and machinery failure. Equipment is maintained pro-actively and serviced on a scheduled basis to ensure equipment availability and reliability i.e. compressors. Perform condition monitoring on equipment. Installation and maintenance on conveyor belts. Breakdowns are attended to immediately to restore availability and reported to the Chargehand and Control Room. Report and communicate unrepairable equipment to the supervisor.
  • Ensure effective teamwork and good communication by establishing interaction between team members and relevant stakeholders.
  • Perform standby duties according to schedule. Attend to call-outs as per procedure.

Brief Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Industrial Engineering

  • Time and activity studies on all plant and equipment (Flash reports)
  • Monitor all waste promoting (non-value adding) activities and co-ordinate elimination initiatives of such activities with processes.
  • Advanced planning pertaining to the manning requirement for the new programs / pre-launch workshops/ new cell layouts.
  • Use of CAT tool as format for work & method study analysis
  • Pursue and promote cost saving ideas throughout the organization
  • Provide SAP analyst with new product launch routings and ensure existing routings are current and accurate.
  • Provide layout proposals for current and future business sin order to minimize floor space utilization and facilitate the best possible material flow and productivity in production cells.
  • Develop and implement new processes for optimum utilization of resources within manufacturing and logistics (Raw material store and finished goods store)

Documentation Control

  • Ensure all documentation pertaining to productivity improvements are correctly controlled in accordance to the organizations quality system.
  • Ensure that all documentation regarding Raw and Finished Goods packaging is up to date and approved by relevant parties.
  • Update and formulate new work packaging and setting instructions for all models (including visual aids)
  • Ensuring all documentation pertaining to the flash reports are released and issued to the necessary managers.

Co-ordination of both Supplier and Customer Packaging

  • Calculate cost effective packaging specifications for all current and new components
  • Manage supplier packaging approval process
  • Develop supplier packaging requirement to meet Tenneco production requirements.
  • Obtain packaging instruction sign off from customers and follow through to implementation on shop floor.
  • Implementation of optimum container utilization for freight shipment (Air or Sea)
  • Compile packaging specifications and logistical layouts for the plant and material flow.
  • Training operators when new packaging is introduced,
  • Management of new packaging trials and packaging requirements for PTR activity.
  • Ensuring PSW's are packed correctly into the required boxes and on correct pallets in the required period.

Warehouse & Logistical Productivity Improvements

  • Implementation of Kanban & Just-in-time supply to the individual layouts for the plant and material flow.
  • Training operators when new packaging is introduced.
  • Management of new packaging trials and packaging requirements for PTR activity.

Warehouse & Logistical Productivity Improvements

  • Implementation of Kanban & Just-in-Time supply to the individual line, thus reducing WIP, lead times and floor space utilization.
  • Support Logistics layout designs and on improving capacity within the stores.
  • Maintain and improve Kanban routes (cycle times) between Stores and production cells.

Project(s) Co-ordination

  • Identification of TVM Project/Initiatives
  • Motivation for Capital Appropriation Request for identified projects within plant logistics
  • Lead industrialization projects related to inbound, outbound warehouses and external warehouses.
  • Manage and develop design specifications for material handling equipment.
  • Develop and manage project timing.
  • Ensure that supplier/contractor adheres to project timing plan and conforms to agree invoicing procedure.
  • Autonomous project(s) co-ordination

Finished goods quality assurance root cause analysis and continuous improvement

  • Support in development and implementation of robust processes to ensure quality built into finished goods from production is retained until products reach customer.
  • Documentation update and control for process adopted in Finished Goods Inventory.
  • Documentation of root cause analyses via 5 why's, fishbone diagram etc.
  • Solution proposals to identified waste or process concerns within Logistical processes at in production and all warehouses.
  • Document improvement action – Lesson learned (A3)
  • Institute process controls.
  • Verify effectiveness of process controls.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure and promote a health and safety conscious working procedure and a clean and safe work place at all times.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing process development, fixture design, tooling / gage design, and equipment design. Skills in Industrial Engineering include a working knowledge of the following:

Could you be the next Process and Manufacturing Engineering Manager in Alstom Rolling Stock we're looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your engineering and manufacturing expertise in a cutting-edge field. You'll work alongside collaborative, innovative, and forward-thinking teammates.

You'll play a critical role in ensuring product and process designs are optimized for manufacturability, driving industrialization resources across all phases of production. Day-to-day, you'll work closely with teams across the business (EHS, Production, Project Management, Finance, Sourcing, and Supply Chain), manage the implementation of standard processes, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, among other responsibilities.

You'll specifically take care of managing industrialization activities, deploying and maintain methodologies like ICONE, P-FMEA, and QRQC, but also lead the engineering team to support carbody manufacturing and delivery.

We'll look to you for:

  • Ensuring the implementation of standard processes and product solutions and where established, monitor and maintain existing processes
  • Validating manufacturability and transferability using validated technologies
  • Driving continuous improvement actions to support production
  • Deploying industrialization standards, including EHS and ergonomics
  • Managing staff capacity, competencies, and end-to-end people management
  • Ensuring compliance with ISO, quality certifications, and legal requirements

  • Degree in Engineering (mandatory)
  • Welding qualification (mandatory)
  • Lean Manufacturing certificate (desirable)

  • Proven ability to manage a team of engineers and technicians
  • Technical expertise in Process Engineering, Lean Manufacturing, and ERP systems like SAP
