Job Description

To produce cost effective and technically sound Piping designs within the required time frame to support project deliverables.

Project Life Cycle

  • Ensure discipline strategy development during set-up to meet project deliverables
  • Offer general project support and problem solving on technical matters arising
  • Use knowledge of scope on current and recent projects to promote re-use of engineering where possible
  • Review key discipline documentation and drawings produced on projects
  • Develop an Electrical strategy and design criteria to suit the unique project/client requirements
  • Generate post-project feedback

Design

  • Generate scope of work specifications with technical requirements for each package
  • Compile technical enquiry packages and technical tender evaluations to ensure accurate placement of technical orders
  • Assist in developing, managing and controlling the discipline cost and man-hour estimates
  • Produce discipline specific designs according to schedule and budget
  • Manage and control changes to budget and schedule
  • Identify potential risks/delays and explain discrepancies
  • Produce piping designs in accordance with piping design codes and specifications
  • Carry out dynamic and static analysis using piping stress analysis software
  • Carry out valve and piping bulk material specifications
  • Generate piping bills of material
  • Generate fabrication, erection and testing specifications
  • Maintain effective engineering input/output of design office
  • Ensure development and optimization of piping layout drawings through the design office

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professionally, the successful candidate will be a B.Sc. / B.Eng or B.Tech graduate and will be registered as a professional engineer or technologist.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A proven track record of 5-7 years plus experience in piping engineering design and project management, within a processing or petrochemical plant projects environment, is required for this position.
  • Project Management - Knowledge of basic project management methods and knowledge of all project life cycle phases
  • Design Criteria -Applications and improvements of technical knowledge into design criteria that suit project reqs. And/or support the design of new components/equipment
  • Design Codes - Knowledge of local piping design codes and standards
  • Commercial Principles - Understanding of contract types and of their main features (basics, purchasing and selling conditions, partnerships, claims, logistic aspects etc) including international contracts
  • Technical Documentation - Ability to create, understand and communicate technical specifications

Project Life Cycle

Determines technical issues, defines alternate solutions, establishes pros/cons for multiple solutions, and makes recommendations through official project documents such as technical queries, technical deviations, etc. Creates final documentation incorporating all relevant information and pursues customer approval. May review similar documentation to assist others and reviews/authorizes work done by direct reports. Procurement Support Incorporates information from multiple sources into equipment/material specifications, data sheets, testing requirements, and material requisitions. Participates in bid clarifications, conducts bid evaluations, completes inter-discipline vendor information review and approval, and finalizes other certification activities. Reviews similar documentation to assist others and reviews/authorizes work done by direct reports. Site Support Seeks input from knowledgeable sources, participates in constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews, and ensures that requirements are incorporated into engineering/design. Works with site personnel to resolve issues. May create plans or documents that supports construction, testing, commissioning, operations, maintenance, or decommissioning. May provide or lead on-site support for construction, commissioning, or turn over. Qualifications, Accreditation, Training (Essential) Awarded a 4 or 5 year technical degree in science or engineering. Trained in leadership and project execution. Will be actively licensed with a local engineering governing body where required by law. Job Specific Knowledge / Experience (Essential) Typically has 12+ years of relevant discipline experience. Has a strong background in discipline work and a strong understanding of regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry standard practices.
