Core Purpose
To assist the structural engineering team by preparing accurate rebar detailing, structural drawings, and models, conducting site inspections, and compiling technical documentation. This role plays a key part in ensuring successful project delivery through precision, quality assurance, and effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Performance Areas
- Prepare accurate reinforcement detailing and structural layout drawings in compliance with project specifications and relevant codes.
- Use AutoCAD and Revit to develop and update models and drawings for reinforced concrete and/or structural steel components.
- Compile and maintain structural documentation, including reinforcement schedules, drawing registers, and inspection reports.
- Ensure all documentation is properly filed, referenced, and quality checked.
- Liaise with engineers, architects, and other project stakeholders to coordinate and integrate structural detailing within multidisciplinary teams.
- Assist in responding to site queries and coordinating drawing revisions.
- Ensure all work complies with internal draughting standards, engineering codes of practice, and client specifications.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- National Diploma (NDip) in Civil or Structural Engineering;
- Recognised Draughting Certificate or equivalent.
Experience:
- 3 to 5 years’ relevant experience in structural draughting within the structural engineering environment.
Person Requirements

- Knowledge and experience in working with AutoCAD;
- Knowledge and experience in working with Probar 2D;
- Knowledge and experience in working with Revit.

The Role: Design Room Coordinator (Structural Design Engineer)
This role acts as the crucial link between project sites, clients, architects, and the internal design office. You will be responsible for capturing requirements, translating them into clear briefs for the design team, and ensuring solutions are structurally sound, efficient, and compliant. Beyond technical coordination, you will help lead the integration of three design divisions into a single, future-focused unit, creating smoother processes and stronger collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Minimum 3-5 years of structural engineering or design coordination experience
Act as the liaison between clients, architects, engineers, and contractors regarding design requirements
Translate stakeholder input into precise and actionable briefs for the design team
Coordinate design changes and ensure proper documentation and timely updates
Attend site meetings to capture requirements, constraints, and technical considerations
Provide technical input on structural and design aspects, including sustainable and timber-based solutions
Oversee the consolidation of three design teams into one unified function by 2026
Monitor timelines to ensure design deliverables are accurate and on schedule
Conduct quality reviews to ensure compliance with codes, safety standards, and structural integrity

About You
Diploma or Degree in Structural Engineering (BEng / BSc / NDip)
3-5+ years of relevant experience in structural engineering and/or design coordination
Strong knowledge of building codes, structural principles, and safety regulations
Proficiency with design and analysis tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, or similar
Previous exposure to client and architect-facing roles within construction projects
Advantageous: experience in timber structures, modular construction, or sustainable building methods
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interface with diverse stakeholders
Highly organized, proactive, and adaptable with strong coordination abilities

2MC Consulting Engineers has a vacancy open for a Civil Design Technician or Technologist. The position is based in the Edendale Office, Gauteng Province.
Candidates should meet the following requirements:
- Minimum N-Diploma or B-Tech in Civil Engineering or similar.
- Minimum of Five Years' design experience.
- Registration with ECSA as a Professional will be an added advantage
- Competency in the below software would be an advantag.
- AutoCad, Civil 3D, IDAs and Prokon
- Valid driver's license and own transport will be an added advantage
Key Responsibilities:
- Site earthworks modelling for property developments, mining and infrastructure
- Utilities modelling (sewer, water, stormwater) – Bulk services and site services
- Major and minor road corridor modelling, including intersections, roundabouts and interchanges (using corridor modelling techniques and NOT site modelling or feature line modelling techniques)
- Guide, mentor and train digital engineering team members. Carry out investigations, surveys, design, engineering calculations and preparation of working drawings and estimates for highways projects.
- Review overall project design and suggest technical and design improvements
- Monitoring project construction and acceptance including site visits and commissioning supervision
- Detail oriented with strong skills in Infrastructure analysis
- Mentor and supervise junior engineers including reviewing, checking and approving work output of junior Technician
- Generating Civil 3D models by using surface and corridor creation tools and should be considered as advanced in Civil 3D.
- Produce and guide team on 2D CAD output to local, provincial and national authority standards (CoJ, CoT, GDRT, SANRAL, etc)
- Aiding civil engineers, technologists, and technicians on all draughting and design aspects relating to civil projects within our global design center
- Ensuring that you are kept up to date with new innovative draughting technologies
- Excellent interactive working capabilities within a multidisciplinary environment
- Conversant with Civil 3D, Bill, MS Word & MS Excel
- Knowledge of Civil Designer, and MS Projects, will be an advantage
