The Opportunity
We are looking for Energy and Infrastructure, Senior Project Managers who can offer a range of skills from stakeholder, human, integration, scope, risk management, cost management, time, procurement, communication, design, construction, health & safety, quality management & environment management across the project life cycle. As we built confidence, we will grow this team with specific project control functions to offer a range of service on large projects across different sectors.
This position is based in Johannesburg or Cape Town.
Develop detailed project execution plans for to ensure successful delivery of projects. Work collaboratively with the Client and the Arup team. Manage and coordinate the integration of technical activities to enable Arup to achieve its objectives. Ensure projects deliverables comply with design standards, legal regulations, environmental standards, and necessary permits.
Identify potential project risks and devise mitigation strategies. Maintain relationships with stakeholders, including governments, local communities, suppliers, contractors, and team members. Ensure Arup delivers quality service to our clients. Implement quality control measures to ensure project standards and performance objectives are met. Oversee and report on the project’s progress to senior management and stakeholders. Technical knowledge in the energy and infrastructure field. Ability to consult with others to develop the level of knowledge required for the role. Utilises the company’s knowledge network to adopt best practices in approach to work. Have a good understanding of Construction of projects.

- Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, project management, or a related field.
- A master's degree can enhance qualifications.
- Relevant certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), SACPCMP or Accredited Professional can bolster a candidate's standing.

- Application of mass flow, energy, and momentum principles in hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, pipe flow, open-channel flow, sediment transport, hydraulic design, hydraulic modelling, and water and wastewater treatment technologies at well-defined, broadly defined, and complex levels.
- Total life cycle costing and analyses of water supply systems, e.g., abstraction and diversion works, pump station selection and design, bulk water supply, and water reticulation networks.
- Analyses, design, construction, and management of sewer and stormwater systems.
- Design of hydraulic structures, e.g., culverts, bridges, weirs, and associated protection works.
- Software applications related to water engineering (hydraulics), e.g., AutoDesk (AutoCAD & Civil-3D), Civil Designer, HEC-RAS, EPANET, EPASWMM, and Aqua Hydraulics.
- Design codes/legislation: (i) National Water Act (36/1998), (ii) Water Services Act (108/1997), (iii) National Environmental Management Act (107/1998), (iv) SANS1200 A-N (Civil Eng. Works), (v) CSIR (Red Book: Neighbourhood Planning and Design Guide for Sustainable Human Settlements), and (vi) SANRAL (Drainage Manual).
AND/OR
- Demonstrated knowledge, proficiency, application, and practical experience in Hydrology, including:
- Surface hydrology, engineering (design) hydrology, geohydrology, water resources management and planning, hydrological statistics, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, and environmental engineering at well-defined, broadly defined, and complex levels.
- Hydrological data processing, e.g., evaluation, processing, and quality control of historical information and observed hydrological and/or meteorological data.
- Calibration of flow-gauging weirs and related hydraulic structures, inclusive of calibration techniques, velocity distributions, conventional current gaugings, velocity-index applications, and the development of rating and velocity distribution curves.
- Hydrological surveying, e.g., topographical, flood, stake-out, and as-built surveys.
- Design flood estimation and flood risk analyses, e.g., capacity analyses of drainage system infrastructure and the estimation of flood-line levels as part of the Stormwater Master Planning function.

- A strong working knowledge of AutoDesk (AutoCAD 2D drafting and 3D modelling), e.g., ability to create and edit engineering plans, sections and detail drawings, and setting up layers, blocks, title blocks, and standard templates.
- A strong working knowledge of AutoDesk (Civil-3D), e.g., proficiency in surface modelling and terrain analyses, corridor modelling for roads and highways, intersection design, road alignments, pipe networks for water, stormwater and sewer systems, profiles, and assemblies and quantity take-offs.
Desired Qualification, Knowledge and/or Experience
- Master’s degree at NQF Level 9 in Civil Engineering plus PrEng/PrTechEng (Civil Eng.) registration with ECSA if in possession of an NQF 8 qualification.
