Our Client in Fourways Mall and Roodepoort Mall is looking to employ two pharmacist you will be responsible for dispensing medications, ensuring their safe and effective use, and providing patient counseling.
Key duties include reviewing and filling prescriptions, checking for drug interactions and allergies, administering vaccinations, and supervising pharmacy staff. Pharmacists also collaborate with healthcare providers, conduct health screenings, and manage pharmacy inventory.
Core responsibilities
• Dispensing and medication management: Accurately measure, prepare, and distribute medications according to prescriptions.
• Patient counseling and education and advise patients on how and when to take their medications, potential side effects, and other health topics like nutrition or smoking cessation.
Safety and quality control:
• Verify the correct dosage, check for dangerous drug interactions, and review patient allergies.
Collaboration:
• Communicate with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding patient prescriptions and medication plans.
Vaccinations:
• Administer a variety of immunizations, such as flu shots.
Health screenings:
• Perform basic health screenings like blood pressure, cholesterol, or blood sugar tests.
Supervision:
• Manage and supervise pharmacy technicians and assistants.
• Inventory and records: Maintain accurate records of medications and manage pharmacy inventory.
Other potential duties
• Recommend over-the-counter medications.
• Contact insurance providers to determine coverage for prescriptions.
• Conduct wellness screenings.
• Work in various settings, including community pharmacies, hospitals, or research and academic institutions

Education:
• Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm): A four-year undergraduate degree covering foundational sciences in the first two years and specialized subjects like pharmacology and clinical pharmacy in the later years.
• Accreditation: The BPharm degree must be accredited by the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
• Practical training: The degree includes practical training in hospital or community pharmacy settings.
