Role Description

Our Transformation team seeks growth-minded and solutions-focused people who are passionate about making a difference. Based in South Africa, you will work on high-profile engagements with EY teams, finding innovative strategic solutions to complex and demanding problems. You will be part of a high-performing team that leads client conversations and supports account teams, shaping EY’s market approach.

You will be a manager in our Transformation team working across our Business Consulting teams to redesign businesses, design processes and solutions to transform how our clients manage resources such as water and energy. You will support business development, create proposals, participate in solution development and help deliver market-leading ideas and proposals to clients.

You will manage high-performing teams, coach junior team members and develop the careers of colleagues.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Assist leading organisations to prepare and respond to the transformation required in building a modernised grid infrastructure and enable digital utilities marketplace.
  • Design, reinvent and innovate business models that will create long term value and disrupt markets.
  • Design and build operating models, including process, governance, organisation, technology and the supporting ecosystem.
  • Develop the technical specifications of innovative technology, determine the communications, networks and infrastructure of the technical solution architecture.
  • Design, establish and operate the implementation programmes, including agile or lean approaches to design, build and launch new products, services, experiences and business models.
  • Analyse data and provide recommendations to client executives on strategic initiatives and transformations.
  • Lead the development of proposals – from understanding the client’s requirements, defining the approach, methods and timeline to determine the team and commercials to deliver the engagement.
  • Follow the appropriate quality and risk management processes in EY to protect the reputation of the firm and manage risks of engagements and clients proactively.
  • Manage project teams, project financials budgeting and invoicing process.
  • Responsible for quality deliverables and leveraging EY thought leadership, delivery methods and tools to deliver products and outcomes.
  • Build client relationships and establish the team as a trusted advisor in the marketplace.
  • Collaborate across EY service lines to increase value for our clients, contributing to building a better working world.

  • A post graduate degree will be considered beneficial but not a pre-requisite
  • Relevant certification from recognised institutions in project or program management (e.g., PMP, PgMP, Agile, Prince II) is beneficial but not a pre-requisite
  • Lean six sigma qualifications will be beneficial

The opportunity

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Manager to help add value to our private and public sector clients on their complex infrastructure projects by helping them define understand and manage risks associated with their projects through transformation strategies that add value and ensure effective procurement and implementation of complex projects.

Your key responsibilities

  • Manage more than one assignment at a time while demonstrating quality and consistency of performance in every assignment and the ability to Support the operations and governance of clients large / complex projects and programs by designing and implementing multi-year Project Management Offices (PMO) or Transformation Management Offices (TMO).
  • Support clients to lead large scale planning and execution of strategic large / complex projects and programs e.g. transformational programs large infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrate professionalism and confidence to deal with a range of stakeholder groups and management teams with ability to adapt well to change and effectively communicate and present work products.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive business transformation strategies that align with strategic goals and objectives.
  • Apply knowledge and insights from client work and experience to wider business environment
  • Lead and facilitate change management efforts by ensuring all stakeholders are engaged informed and supported throughout the transformation process.
  • Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions monitor progress and measure the success of transformation efforts
  • Plan and oversee the execution of transformation projects including setting goals defining project scopes allocating resources and managing timelines.
  • Monitor budgets schedules work quality scope and client deliverables and Identify potential risks and obstacles to engagement success develop mitigation strategies and adapt plans as needed.
  • Work closely with various competencies and teams to ensure alignment and effective communication throughout the engagement and transformation process.
  • Support the pursuit of new business opportunities including building strong client relations understanding client needs and EY solution offerings
  • Leverage existing relationships and build new ones to assist partners with generating new business opportunities and building relevant external networks and relationships.
  • Demonstrate deep functional capabilities and professional knowledge and stay current with industry and regulatory leading practices.
  • Support the people development of the Business Transformation team by contributing to or leading training courses recruitment and team / wellbeing activities.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging feedback identifying opportunities
  • Share technical and other knowledge with the team drawing on previous experience and current learning.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • MBA and / or professional certification (e.g. Pr. Eng / Tech CPA CFA preferred.
  • At least 10 years relevant work experience (consulting experience highly desired)
  • Experience in one or more of the following : Strategy Project Management Office Business Transformation Capital Project / Programme Management Capital / Infrastructure Planning and Delivery Management Revenue protection and enhancement Operational turnaround and improvement experience in delivering infrastructure PPP projects
  • Ability to manage strategic and complex transformation and infrastructure projects
  • Ability to apply analytical and conceptual thinking and provide structure to complex and ambiguous projects
  • Effective time management and organisation skills with ability to work under pressure while meeting the requisite quality delivery
  • Strong commercial awareness and business acumen

    • 3+ years of experience in FP&A and consulting, demonstrating expertise in advising commercial companies and strategic decision-makers on financial matters
    • Experience working with Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) systems implementations such as Oracle/Hyperion (Preferred), OneStream, Adaptive, Anaplan, Vena, Planful, or Prophix, contributing to a deep knowledge of EPM functionalities and their application in business contexts
    • Knowledgeable in advanced analytical tools such as Tableau and Alteryx, as well as modeling skills in Microsoft Excel, enabling the execution of complex financial models for analysis and forecasting
    • Ability to summarize key data into concise executive dashboards, providing actionable insights to drive informed decision-making
    • Experience mentoring and developing junior team members and helping project teams resolve complex and multi-faceted issues
    • Knowledge of various project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Lean, Waterfall).
    • Strong attention to detail with the ability to think from a “big picture” perspective.
    • Demonstrated track record of establishing credibility both internally and externally.
    • Creativity, confidence, and an agile/adaptable mindset.
    • High energy, enthusiasm, and an entrepreneurial spirit
    Qualifications:
    • B.Com / B.Com (Honors) in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Management Accounting
    • CA, CPA, CFA, Certified Corporate FP&A Professional, or relevant certifications
