Major Responsibilities:

  • Complies with all state and federal standards for compounding medications.
  • Proficient with pharmacy technology and equipment. Capable of troubleshooting minor technical problems and knows who to reach out to when escalation is needed to resolve.
  • Prepares and packages all forms of medications and compounds as needed. Repackage all bulk medications into unit of use containers, ensure that items are scannable.
  • Maintains required documentation in accordance with regulatory and hospital requirements.
  • Conducts medication room inspections in assigned patient care area in accordance with regulatory requirements. Removes outdated medications and supplies and provides all needed follow up actions.
  • Assembles drugs in an accurate and efficient manner, scanning items from the different warehouse locations using the department’s inventory managements system.
  • Appropriately triage pharmacy phone calls.
  • Support training new technicians.
  • Maintains a clean work area.
  • Receiving of daily order and ensure that all items are scannable and entered into the hospital system. Helps to maintain an accurate and in date inventory.
  • Participates in identifying problems or areas for improvement and assists management with problem solving projects and improving pharmacy operations and communication.

Performs medication related tasks such as packaging, preparation of all forms of medications, record keeping, and all aspects of drug distribution.**Major Responsibilities:*** Responsible for the day to day operations within the Outpatient Pharmacy.* Assists in UMMMC Meds to Beds prescription intake and delivery and documents appropriately on patient medical record and pharmacy tracking report.* Responds accurately and timely to provider inquiries about discharge prescriptions and documents accordingly on patient medical record.* Processes prescriptions through pharmacy computer system.* Maintains inventory by conducting daily cycle counts, receiving the order, and removing outdated items from active stock.* Interacts with providers and provider staff to receive and clarify orders.* Interacts with patients to update them on out of stock, insurance, or other emergent issues.* Maintains required prescription records as necessary in accordance with regulatory and hospital requirements.* Enters new prescriptions and refills into the computer system.* Resolves common adjudication issues and troubleshoots with insurance when necessary.* Answers doctor and patient telephone calls.* Appropriately fills and maintains prescription dispensing robot.* Dispenses prescriptions through point of sale after verifying two patient identifiers.* Maintains a clean work area and assists in quality indicator monitoring.* Assists with yearly inventory in assigned areas.* Participates in identifying problems or areas for improvement and assists supervisor with problem solving projects and improving operations; participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities and/or teams.**Position Qualifications:***License/Certification/Education: Required:*** High school diploma or equivalent.* Current license with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.* Certified by one of the national governing bodies such as PTCB, or the National Healthcareer Association ExCPT.**Experience/Skills: Required:*** Position requires proficiency in math and, knowledge and ability to use a computer.* Must be able to follow oral and written instructions with accuracy, efficiency, and dependability.* Positive work ethic, motivated and professional demeanor to promote teamwork in the department.**Preferred:*** Preferred to have recent pharmacy work experience within the past 6 months.All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.We’re striving to make respect a part of everything we do at UMass Memorial Health – for our patients, our community and each other.
