Applications are invited for the Infrastructure Technician - Junior position to be based in Queenstown .
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The Infrastructure Technician Junior will be responsible for maintaining wireless and fibre network infrastructure under supervision. This includes equipment installation, configuration, and constructing physical structures that host equipment.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in constructing, installing, and maintaining communication towers, fibre networks, and support structures.
- Respond to network outages and meet project deadlines.
- Climb tall structures (50 meters or more) with loads up to 20kg daily.
- Analyze situations to identify risks, ensuring safety and appropriate actions.
- Install and repair antenna systems, fibre infrastructure, power equipment, and data routers.
- Follow work instructions accurately and escalate issues when necessary.
- Identify safety hazards and perform duties safely.
- Communicate effectively with team members and management.
- Maintain tools and equipment.
- Travel extensively, sometimes at short notice.
- Erect masts and perform ad hoc tasks as required.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 1-2 years industry experience.
- Valid driver's license; off-road driving experience is advantageous.
- Up-to-date medical certificate.
- Completed Working at Heights and Tower Rescue Training.
- Technically inclined with experience in manual labour, site preparation, equipment setup, and RF fields is advantageous.
- Proficient with hand tools and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Knowledge of municipal regulations and safety procedures.
- Proficient with safety equipment, harnesses, and climbing gear.
- Physically fit to climb towers, carry equipment, and work in various environmental conditions.
- Basic computer skills and understanding of electricity, solar energy, power, batteries, network, and RF principles.
- Knowledge of network hardware, software, routing, RF protocols, and cable techniques.
- Effective communication, fault-finding, and task prioritization skills.
Education:
- Grade 12 (Maths and Science advantageous).
