Applications are invited for the Network Solutions Engineer position to be based in the Western Cape. (Cape Winelands / Northern Suburbs)
This person will report to the Head of VAS.
Purpose Of The Role
The Network Solutions Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting advanced network solutions for our high-end and enterprise clients and will have a deep understanding of both wireless and fibre technologies, internal network architecture, and vendor-specific platforms such as Mikrotik, Unifi, Cambium, and Huawei.
Key Performance Areas would include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the design and deployment of complex network solutions for Herotel Business customers.
- Conduct on-site assessments and develop customized end-to-end network architectures based on client needs.
- Design and configure networks from scratch, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across internal LANs, WANs, fibre, and wireless infrastructure.
- Provide high-level technical support and consulting to the sales and service teams.
- Create detailed documentation including network diagrams, configurations, and proposals.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and provide strategic input on potential upgrades and integrations.
- Serve as the technical point of contact during project scoping, implementation, and post-installation support.
- Identify and Develop new business opportunities by sourcing potential clients and proposing tailored network solutions.
- Successfully designed and implemented tailored network solutions for enterprise and hospitality clients, including full documentation and diagrams.
- Number of complex network projects delivered on time and within budget, meeting client performance and security requirements.
- High satisfaction scores from VIP clients and contribution to long-term retention through expert technical service and proactive support.
- Resolution of network issues within SLA timeframes, with root cause analysis and preventative solutions documented.
- Successful integration of Mikrotik, Unifi, Cambium, and Huawei products into client networks, including firmware upgrades and optimization.
- Quality of technical input and collaboration with sales and support teams to enable accurate scoping, quoting, and solution alignment.
- Development of technical documentation, guides, or internal training to upskill junior technicians or support staff.
- Adherence to security standards, network design best practices, and internal quality benchmarks.
- Actively identify potential new high-value clients through site visits, networking, and consultations.
- Propose tailored network solutions to prospective clients, contributing to business growth and new project acquisitions.
The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills:
- 3+ years VOIP experience. (Porta 1, Bicom, Yealink, Samsung, Quitum) etc.
- 5+ years networking experience. (Mikrotik, TP link, ZTE, Huawei, Cisco, Juniper) etc.
- 5+ years access point experience. (Unifi, Reyee, Huawei) etc.
- Proven ability to manage complex networking projects from concept to deployment.
- Networking Engineering WAN, LAN, Network Topologies, Routing, Switching and Firewall Security Environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in high-pressure environments.
- Self-disciplined, motivated and organized.
- Effective planning skills.
- Leadership skills.
- Exhibits strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Degree or Diploma in Information Technology.
- A+ & N+ is required.
- MTCNA/MTCRE is required.
- The following network certifications will be advantageous:
- MCSE/MCITP

Job Description
Although our production and financial results are the engine that drives our business, it is the depth of capability in our people that will continue to determine First Quantum’s ongoing success. Reporting to the Regional IT Manager – EMEA of our IT division, this role will form an integral part of our Regional IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing our enterprise network infrastructure with a focus on Cisco technologies. You will ensure network reliability, performance and security to support business operations. The role will demand a high level of technical expertise in network hardware, software and protocols. The incumbent will work within a team of other technical and support staff and may be required to interact with external vendors and customers as well as internal stakeholders such as project managers and IT teams.
Key Responsibilities:
The Network Engineer’s general accountabilities include, but are not limited to, the below:
Install, configure and maintain Cisco network devices, including routers, switches and wireless controllers.
Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 support for network-related issues, ensuring timely resolution of incidents and service requests.
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot latency, bottlenecks and other network issues.
Manage and support Cisco technologies such as Cisco ASA, Meraki, Nexus and Catalyst platforms.
Perform routine network maintenance and upgrades, including firmware updates and patches.
Document network configurations, procedures, and policies.
Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams on projects and system integrations.
Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards and best practices.
Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed.
Ensure the Group Standards for Networking Architecture and Technology are adhered to in our mining operations.
Adds/Moves and Changes on a Cisco Unified Communications Manager
Deployment and Support of Cloud Manager Video Conferencing hardware
Troubleshoot issues related to connectivity between different devices on the same network segment
Support and troubleshoot network issues and coordinate with vendors.
Maintain detailed technical documentation.
Provide recommendations on improvements to network performance.
Manage vendor/stakeholder relationships and SLAs relating to network services.
Support other teams during new provisioning, ongoing maintenance windows, development work, with IP networking / sysadmin expertise.
Collaborate with other IT teams to resolve complex problems.
Plan for future growth by implementing scalable solutions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Cisco certifications preferred (CCNP, or higher).
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
Strong communication skills and customer service orientation.
Experience with SDWAN technology
Understanding of how SIP trunks can be deployed in an Enterprise Phone System.
Experience & Technical Skills Required:
Proven experience as a Network Support Engineer with a focus on Cisco networking equipment.
Strong understanding of networking protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, STP, QoS).
Experience with Cisco IOS, NX-OS, and Meraki dashboard management.
Familiarity with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, etc.).
Knowledge of network security principles and technologies (Firewalls, VPNs, ACLs).
Experience with SDWAN technology
Understanding of how SIP trunks can be deployed in an Enterprise Phone System.
