SIG Machine Operator – Glass Processing Industry

An exciting opportunity exists within our Processing Department for an assertive, self-motivated individual to join our team as a SIG Machine Operator. This is an excellent role for someone who thrives in a manufacturing environment and has the technical know-how to keep operations running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and monitor SIG machinery in the glass processing department.
• Ensure production targets and quality standards are consistently met.
• Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment.
• Follow health & safety standards at all times.
• Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to optimize production efficiency.

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 (Matric) or higher qualification.
• Glass knowledge or experience in the glass industry is highly advantageous.
• 3–5 years' experience in a manufacturing or processing facility.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Physically fit and able to perform job functions.
• Computer literate (basic technical knowledge required).
• Willing and able to work shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed.
• Reliable own transport is essential.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Operate powered industrial trucks to load and unload materials and deliveries and move them to and from storage areas, machines and loading docks, into railroad cars or trucks or storage facilities.

RESPONSIBLE FOR OPERATION OF FORKLIFT:

• Core Tasks:
• Responsible for unload and upload material
• Identify damages, shortages and quality deficiencies and report to member of management
• Ensure safe transport raw materials to production workstations
• Inspect machinery
• Determine the need for repairs
• Keep updated records of inventory
• Produce activity logs
• Comply with company policies and guidelines
• Assist in keeping a safe environment.

ASSIST WITH GENERAL AD-HOC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with various ad-hoc responsibilities as requested by management.

Machine Operators

1. Complying with safety, quality and operational procedures

2. Understanding requirements of the work order

3. Complying with stacking procedure and understanding demarcated areas (specially incoming &finished goods).

4. Cleaning machine and organizing the necessary equipment for the job

5. Check material if it is correct for the job as per "Material issued to work order report" Form.

6. Sign for every roll before use, if the roll doesn't appear on the form report it to the setter or QC personnel.

7. Preparing packaging (check for, counter set up, Quantity needed per box and remarks on work order)

8. Ensure that the job is approved before production(setter to be present till machine is running correctly)

9. Operate machine and pack product (load the machine and run, check counter)

10. Check quality of product.

11. Report any problem to your supervisor/setter can be mechanical or quality

12. Inspect final product, ensuring that all boxes are stamped, empty boxes are displayed, half and extra boxes are labeled correctly

13. Remove waste and clean machine (all recyclable off cuts in to clean black bins and non-recyclable in to orange)

14. Mark all extra rolls with work order number and take them under the stairs by the lift.

Material Handling

• Performs visual quality checks on materials and products, and takes action when standards are not met.
• Maintains hourly traceability records.
• Logs and resolves issues using EWO and implements corrective actions.
• Conducts all required HACCP quality checks.

Administration

• Assists with PAMCO recording when needed.
• Logs equipment stoppages and breakdowns for troubleshooting and handovers.
• Conducts hourly plant checks and completes log sheets.
• Performs WCM activities and records M1/M4 tags in SAP.
• Supports Line Operator in updating WCM boards.

Engineering

• Performs scheduled autonomous maintenance and minor repairs (e.g. replacing belts, hoses, knives).
• Assists artisans during major breakdowns by following instructions and supporting repair work.

Continous Improvement

• Uses performance metrics to identify and prioritize production losses.
• Monitors line issues and clearly reports problems

Problem Solving

• Supports Engineering in identifying root causes using structured problem-solving tools.
• Leads quick improvement projects (e.g. Kaizens) on the line.
• Initiates first-level problem solving (5 Whys) and proposes improvements; escalates complex issues to the Team Leader.

Leadership and Relationships

• Performs line changeovers.
• Maintains good working relationships with cross-functional teams.
• Proactively escalates issues to Line Operator, Shift Coordinator, or support teams as per procedure.

Physically Ability
