OBJECTIVE OF ROLE

To undertake all research, creation and editing of all documents to comply with safety and clinical updates accordingly to the Pharmacare Company Core Datasheet (CCDS).
Key Responsibilities
Financial
- Project management of contractual and financial aspects of all medical writing projects and the effective utilisation of resources to keep processes cost effective.
- Identification of project challenges to departmental line management and the financial
- impact thereof.
- Act in the capacity of project manager/lead for medical writing projects. This may entail serving as the primary client contact, negotiating deliverable timelines, and resolving project-related issues, and other duties as assigned.
- Project management of contractual and financial aspects to be performed with management where necessary.
- Serve as the Medical Writing representative to provide proactive support for planning efficient work plans and timelines for medical writing deliverables, and medical writing input into other departmental deliverables. Identify any potential project challenges to departmental line management and project leader, including changes in project plan, timeline or out of scope requests, and suggest possible resolution options.
- Coordinate and conduct interdepartmental team review and sign-off of document deliverables according to Pharmacare guidelines/SOPs.
- Coordinate production and distribution of draft and final documents to regulatory teams. Ensure that all work is complete and of high quality prior to team distribution.
- Attend internal and technical team meetings as required.
- Assist management as needed with preparation of resourcing estimates for potential new medical writing projects
- Proactively engage with other departmental resources where necessary to ensure that information/documentation requests are delivered in a professional and timeous manner.
- Ensure defined framework as set by PV Lead, RA Manager: Safety, Quality and Compliance, or Head of Department are executed within the specified timelines.
- Write clinical documents for submission to regulatory authorities, including but not limited to:
- clinical overviews and summaries
- clinical expert statements
- interim and final clinical study reports
- integrated summaries of safety and efficacy
- nonclinical overviews and summaries
- Provide medical editing review of draft and final documents prepared by other writers before internal or external distribution. This includes both copy editing and content review.
- Ensure document content and style adheres to FDA/EMA/SAHPRA or other appropriate regulatory guidelines, and complies with departmental and corporate SOPs and style guidelines
- Perform literature searches/reviews to obtain background information and training for
- development of documents
- Prepare country specific packs for submission of safety variations within ZA and other
- territories
- Assist in the assessment of clinical and nonclinical documentation with regards to its suitability for supporting new marketing authorisation applications (MAA) or new indications.
- Preparation of aggregate safety reports including but not limited to PSURs, PBRERs and Addendum Safety Reports.
- Preparation of Risk Management Systems including but not limited to Risk Management Plans, Healthcare Professional Letters and Risk Communication Plans.
- Request for Information from Competent Regulatory Authorities (CRAs)
- Manage safety related requests from regulatory agencies and Aspen Affiliates to ensure any requests are answered fully and promptly.
- Assessment of local PI/PIL for inclusion of the validated signal.
- Data analysis of signals and feedback to the Safety Review Team (SRT) during the Signal Management meetings.
- Provide training and guidance and act as a mentor to less experienced departmental

The main purpose of this position is to render efficient and effective clinical care as a lead clinician on protocols, to volunteers on research studies.
ResponsibilitiesClinical Procedures (50%)
- Clinically assess, examine, diagnose and manage the health of participants
- Check and follow up blood results
- Complete prescriptions of pharmaceuticals appropriately.
- Monitor clinical examinations and procedures undertaken by study nurses when necessary
- Manage accountability and adherence monitoring of study drugs
- Refer participants to other clinical care as required
- Consult with other clinical and research staff when necessary
Protocol-specific Procedures (20%)
- Ensure all research activities are performed according to SAHPRA, protocol, the Declaration of Helsinki, International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and other relevant legislation
- Recruit, screen and enroll participants as per protocol-specific inclusion/exclusion requirements
- Ensure informed consent is obtained for all participants as per Standard Operating Procedures
- Manage participants with Adverse Events or Expedited Adverse Events and report as per protocol requirements
- Perform other protocol specific procedures when necessary (contraceptive counselling, implant insertion, adherence counselling, swabs, biopsies, etc)
- Interpret and act on laboratory results
- Assist with database query resolution
Study Administration (30%)
- Document all procedures and investigations as per study requirements
- Assist in preparing study documentation for audits, monitoring visits and site visits from external study monitors
- Transcribe and ensure quality control of study documentation
- Attend clinical and research management meetings
- Assist with the design and enactment of standard operating procedures for clinical management and research projects
- Assist with the design of source documents for research trials
- Attend Site Initiation Visits and study meetings as deemed necessary by the principal investigator
- Act as a back up to the Principal investigator
- Take on one PI ship in the first year
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Requirements
- MBChB Degree
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an independent practitioner
- Valid Good Clinical Practice certificate
- Valid BLS certificate
- Driver’s licence
Experience
- At least 2 years’ experience as a medical officer post community service
- At least 1-year experience as a medical officer, Sub investigator or Principal investigator working on clinical trials
- Clinical skills including the ability to conduct pelvic exams and associated sample collection. Ability to take a history and examine participants and patients and prescribe medication and follow up blood results. Aware of the management of conditions associated with the LGBTQI+ population
- Computer skills: Email, Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Management of common medical conditions as per local treatment guidelines
- Attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, client focused, ability to work efficiently and effectively to meet deadlines. Must be prepared to work in a COVID-19 or Infectious disease environment
- Must be willing to work with marginalised populations, including LGBTQI+ population and young women.
Professional registration/License
- HPCSA registration as an independent practitioner
