CORE PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To champion the development of existing and introduction of new products and services that will contribute to the achievement of the strategic objectives of the Bank, viz; development of innovative products, resulting in increase in return to shareholders and depositors.
1. Product Research and Development
- Conduct research on products and or services including reviews of local and international products and prepares submissions to the Product Development Committee (to be established) and obtain approval from EXCO.
- Assess the viability of the product / service and how it meets specific customer needs and covers all aspects that go into making a product / service a success. Champion the conduct of feasibility studies of all potential products and services
- Ensure that the pro osals are fully costed, and new business potential is taken into account.
- Establish the requirements for customer services and staffing required to support the potential product or service
- Propose a detailed training plan to up skill all stakeholders on the knowledge of the product / service.
2. Evaluate and provide proposals on the enhancement of current products and services including analysis and recommendations on the sustainability of existing products and services.
3. Implementation and roll out of the new products and services.
- Member of the Projects team to contribute to the implementation of new products and services.
4. Innovation and ideas generation
- Assist with the innovation and ideas generation through structured initiatives such as presentations, surveys and make recommendations regarding ideas / innovation for implementation.
- Partner with the marketing department in order to propose new innovative ideas that will meet customer needs for products and services.
- Play an active role in monitoring ABG’s Products Intelligence and Database li>Participate in Albaraka Bank Groups Centre for Excellence in Product Development
5. Reporting
- Provide monthly reporting at all product development committee meeting and to EXCO.
6. O her Projects
- Assist with other projects as and when required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Appropriate Tertiary Qualification - B. Comm, Marketing, IT, or other relevant degree / qualification.
- Qualification in Research and Development and or Project Management will be an added advantage.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Banking environment. li>Preferably with experience in project management.
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of the Banking Systems including electronic banking systems
- An understanding and knowledge of a Banks Policies and Procedures with a
- view to practically implementing same
- Knowledge of Banking products and services
- Knowledge of the budgetary and financial processes
- Knowledge of company’s Code of Business Conduct li>Track record in management of projects

Main job function
• Lead product development projects from start to finish for new and existing products
• Optimise product cost and improve the product quality both internally and in conjunction with external suppliers

• Perform evaluations of new materials and suppliers
• Management of the Engineering Change Process
• Lead projects with multidisciplinary teams
• Conduct FMEA studies and address issues raised
• Develop test methods and perform product testing for approval

• Conduct benchmarking studies
• Oversee the thermodynamic test laboratory

Qualifications

- Assist in compiling and implementing activities, documentation, and records required for the QMS (Quality Management System) and FSMS (Food Safety Management System) of the CKI Value Added Plant.
- Assist in trending laboratory data and reporting findings to the Technical Manager.

- Develop product specifications and 4P documents per customer, submitting them for review by the Technical and NPD Manager and Planning Manager.
- Verify the accuracy of customer labels and packaging materials.
- Ensure timely and adequate delivery of correct raw materials and packaging for trial purposes.
- Investigate customer complaints and provide detailed reports to the Technical and NPD Manager.
- Assist in monthly internal inspections of the facility and communicate any deviations found to the Technical & New Product Development Manager.

- Grade 12
- Experience in the Food Industry production environment.
- Proven training in and experience of Food Safety and Quality Management Systems (HACCP, FSSC 22000 and/or BRC).
- An Internal auditing certification will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of the Woolworths FPI system will be an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse cultural groups.
- Relevant tertiary qualification (degree or diploma in Food Science / Technology or Microbiology / Biochemistry, or Consumer Science) will be an advantage.
