• Possess a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) degree or its equivalent from an accredited medical institution, accompanied by full registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) for Independent Practice as a General Practitioner.
• Demonstrate at least 5 years of substantial professional clinical experience post-community service, evidencing consistent application of medical knowledge in diverse healthcare settings.
• Showcase a minimum of 5 years of experience within private general practice, reflecting proficiency in patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment delivery of high caliber.
• Hold a valid, unrestricted passport facilitating regular international travel to effectively fulfill global medical assistance responsibilities.
• Possess additional certifications or documented professional development in emergency medicine, critical care, or related specialties, which are favorable but not mandatory.
• Exhibit a commitment to ethical medical practice standards and cultural sensitivity when delivering care across varied international contexts.
• Display availability for flexible working hours, including readiness to participate in on-call rotations, to support around-the-clock medical assistance operations.

• Current certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or equivalents, demonstrating advanced emergency medical competence.
• Strong proficiency with medical informatics tools, including electronic health records and medical documentation software, enabling efficient and accurate case management.
• Excellent command of English, both written and spoken, ensuring clear communication with global stakeholders; proficiency in additional languages such as French or Portuguese is highly beneficial.

The Medical Assistant oversees the full spectrum of the patient experience- acting both as a Medical Receptionist as well as assuming clinical responsibilities of a Medical Assistant.

• Escorts patients to room and ensures that exam rooms are thoroughly cleaned and stocked
• Reviews previous medical information and gathers any relevant updated health information from the patient to inform the provider
• Takes vitals, performs blood draws, gives injections, bandages wounds, assists with procedures
• Prepares and administers approved medications and immunizations via oral, topical, inhaled, intramuscular, subcutaneous or intradermal at the direction of and upon written order from the Provider
• Partners with other members of the care team to develop individual patient plan of care including identifying and working to address gaps in care
• Front desk duties, including: patient scheduling, medical record requests and abstraction, documentation, coordinate specialist visits, referrals, and other care outside of the clinic
• Records accurate and pertinent data in the medical record according to documentation guidelines
• Processes test results and provides the patient with timely results via e-message, mail or phone as directed in written instructions by the Provider
• Participates in outreach to patients to drive engagement among eligible patient groups
• Maintains clinical and office supplies and equipment for treatments

• Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Medical Assistant, preferably in Primary Care
• Graduation from a formal Medical Assistant program or other related program
• National or state-specific MA certification or registration is strongly preferred
• CPR/BLS certification required at time of start date
• Phlebotomy experience is preferred

Major Responsibilities:

• Provides patient care including escorts patient to examination rooms, takes and records vital signs, collects and documents patient health status, history, and documents and monitors patient progress following standard procedures. Assists physician and others in clinical procedures as required or directed.
• As an integral member of the patient care team, serves both internal and external customers including patients, nurses, physicians and other colleagues who support the delivery of care and services.
• Provides clear, timely communication to the appropriate licensed clinician regarding observations and changes seen in patient.
• Assists in moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients by utilizing fall prevention alternative devices/strategies as directed, and following the Restraint Policy standards when caring for a restrained patient. Utilizes proper safety techniques and body mechanic in all work-related activities.
• Performs EKG’s, phlebotomy, performs Point of Care (POC) tests, according to hospital standards. Collects, labels and prepares specimens for transport to lab. Performs selected unit specific procedures such as checking status of unit equipment, cleaning equipment between patients and proper storage of supplies.
• Sets up/prepares rooms based on patient care requirements. Assists appropriate licensed clinician in performing routine physical examinations by preparing patient equipment and supplies. May assist physician, nurse or others with clinical procedures such as, but not limited to lumbar puncture, pelvic examinations, and/or dressing changes. Assists in the setup, maintenance, disassembly and cleaning of patient equipment.
• Cleans, sterilizes and repackages instruments and scopes as assigned. Has required skills to operate the sterilization/cleaning systems as necessary.

• Medical Assistant credential approved by the Department of Health (ARMA, NHA, etc.)
