Mechanical Maintenance Leader

Location: Durban

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) or higher.

In possession of a GCC (Factories)

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the chemical industrial environment, coupled with a minimum of 5 years’ middle management or a leading role.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the Mechanical Maintenance team.
  • GMR2.1 appointee responsibility for the site.
  • Accountable for application of the Maintain Facility Work Process.
  • Provides technical strategy to facility on how to improve equipment and machinery reliability.
  • Ensuring that the plans for the equipment viability are designed to meet its intended or existing service conditions.
  • Ensures delivery of best-in-class services to the business.

  • Manage the formation of empowered teams for fast resource leveraging.
  • Provides engineering strategic support for specification, identification, and purchasing of needed parts.
  • Ensures that empowered teams apply the work process consistently and effectively.
  • Leverage most effective technology through partnership with the Discipline Activity Specialists.
  • Ensuring that Capex is strategically allocated to critical and future projects aligned with the strategy and the long-term mechanical renewal plan.
  • Actively participate and drive maintenance process improvements.
  • Serve as a strategic leader for the Mechanical subject matter experts in equipment failures and repair techniques during root cause investigations.
  • Ensure that the department provides equipment reliability and performance data to the technical resource networks for input into equipment purchasing requirements, evaluation of equipment performance, vendor performance.
  • Determines appropriate near-term actions on Evaluated Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) results.
  • Applies the maintenance work process, tools, and effective technology. Accountable for functional goals and for establishing financial plan that is consistent with the business needs and for supplying best in class maintenance service using effective leveraging of resources.
  • Ensuring equipment reliability to ensure uninterrupted production.
  • Strategic thinking to ensure stable operation between statutory outages.
  • Technical expertise provided to mechanical and reliability engineering teams.
  • Driving plant and equipment improvements.
  • Accountable for safety, mechanical work process results, mechanical cost management, asset mechanical reliability (AMR) results and improvements as required by the plants.
  • Custodian for the mechanical asset utilization database (AUDB).

A Tissue manufacturing company in Kempton Park is looking for a Mechanical & Maintenance Foreman with a minimum of 5-10 years of heavy & maintenance experience, preferably in a continuous manufacturing process environment, with training and practical experience in preventive maintenance principles.

The incumbent is responsible for minimizing plant downtime, improving equipment reliability and extending the operating life of machinery through the effective and efficient execution of all mechanical maintenance activities at Picknik Factory (Converting site). The position reports to the Technical Manager and requires collaboration with Line Engineers, Production Managers / Supervisors, Maintenance Planner, and Artisans to maximize plant and equipment availability. Provide strong leadership to the mechanical and maintenance team and expertise in implementing world-class maintenance best practices.

Responsibilities
  • Attend daily operations meetings and, with production personnel, secure the 24-hour operating window by addressing priority equipment repairs.
  • Plan and execute all breakdown repairs without delay.
  • Identify causes of equipment failures and repetitive repairs by completing RCFA pages 1 and 2 for all mechanical failures. Agree corrective actions with the plant engineers.
  • Champion the implementation of proactive maintenance and the elimination of reactive maintenance by implementing preventive and predictive maintenance programmes.
  • Develop, review, and agree on a weekly maintenance plan with the Maintenance Planner. Ensure the effective execution of the weekly maintenance plan.
  • Plan, prepare and oversee the execution of monthly maintenance shuts. Ensure that there are no shut overruns.
  • Reduce reaction times to breakdowns (MTTR) and increase mean time between failures (MTBF) through maintenance best practices, systems and procedures.
  • Meet with suppliers, contractors and third-party inspectors when required.
  • Perform general daily administrative tasks and weekly/monthly reports.
  • Perform standby duties when required and assist with after-hours breakdowns.
  • Perform any work assigned by the engineering leadership team from time to time.
Quality
  • Ensure no maintenance rework by ensuring that work performed by internal artisans and external service providers is executed to the agreed standard.
  • Regularly review and maintain the maintenance system (task lists and PM schedules).
  • Develop work instructions through input from self and subordinates to standardize tasks and spares requirements following World Class Manufacturing best practices.
Cost
  • Control maintenance costs effectively and prevent over expenditure where possible.
  • Identify critical spare requirements and ensure availability of these spares at all times.
  • Liaise with store personnel on spares holding / storage and stock requirements.

• +10 years' experience in manufacturing maintenance environment


• Experience in Steel making industry will be advantageous

Job Description

About:

The Maintenance Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring plant and equipment efficiency, reducing equipment downtime, and continuously improving and upgrading machinery and equipment within the plant. The engineer will work closely with top management, and cross-functional teams to ensure production and project objectives are met with efficiency and high quality.

Key Responsibilities:

a) Managing the maintenance and tooling area.

b) Managing hand/power tools, injection moulds and critical spares inventory keeping to ISO:90001 standards.

c) Maintaining and repairing all equipment, tooling and infrastructure on site.

d) Developing and maintaining maintenance schedules for all departments.

e) Keeping records of all tooling/equipment faults, including reason for fault and steps taken to restore to standard.

f) Work with production and project teams on all new tooling and equipment brought in for new projects.

g) Managing waste movement within the factory as well as waste removal in line with company standards and certifications.

h) Continuous improvement by driving efficiency through lean practices, 5S, waste reduction and process improvements.

i) Enforce health and safety policies, ensure team members adhere to all workplace safety regulations.

Requirements:

· Mechanical Engineering Degree/Diploma

· 0-1 year working experience

· Valid driver's license

· Own transport

· Live in Durban

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: R2 400,00 - R3 500,00 per week

Work Location: In person
