Supervisor of a Manufacturing Plant

A leading company in the red meat industry is looking for a Supervisor of a Manufacturing Plant with manufacturing plant/meat production experience to supervise the end-to-end production process, including filling, drying, packing, wrapping, and labelling of all boerewors/sausage, burgers, meatballs, and pets mince.

Duties & Responsibilities

Production

  • Responsible for boerewors/sausage production process.
  • Develop, review, and implement efficient and effective procedures and processes to optimize production.
  • Responsible for the delivery of product according to a set standard, at a reasonable cost and productivity.
  • Stock control management (stock rotation).
  • Ensure product meets all customer requirements, especially but not limited to product appearance, packing, and labelling.
  • Oversee that hygiene standards are applied throughout all processes and procedures.
  • Responsible for the application of the correct selection criteria and quality standards (e.g., neatness; sequence etc.) of labelling.
  • Ensure that all procedures are implemented in accordance with legal requirements e.g., hygiene.

People Supervision

  • Supervise and control subordinates' activities to ensure daily production targets are met.
  • Supervise time and attendance of all subordinates.
  • Ensure disciplinary procedures are applied adequately.
  • Assure stable employee relations by managing conflict and creating a positive and performing working environment.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Grade 12
  • 3-5 years manufacturing plant/meat production experience.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Plan, organise, supervise and participate in daily warehouse operations.
  2. Staff management, including training and HR/IR related duties.
  3. Supervise movement of materials to production.
  4. Manage all warehouse-related documentation.
  5. Continuously monitor stock levels.
  6. Ensure all H&S regulations are adhered to.
  7. Ensure all warehouse processes and procedures are followed.
  8. Report compilation and feedback to management.
Desired Experience & Qualification

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on, solutions-driven Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the effective functioning of all production equipment, utilities, and infrastructure at our Germiston facility.

This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to equipment reliability, compliance, and performance optimization.

Key Responsibilities

Operational & Technical Oversight

Supervise and coordinate all preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities.

Ensure continuous operation of production systems, utilities, and infrastructure.

Monitor equipment and plant performance, implement improvements, and reduce downtime.

Supervise internal maintenance teams and manage third-party contractors as needed.

Coordinate system shutdowns with production for scheduled maintenance or repairs.

Safety & Compliance

Ensure full compliance with HSE regulations and internal Safety, Environment, and Quality Management Systems.

Promote and enforce the use of PPE and injury-prevention practices on site.

Implement and ensure compliance with all corporate and local safety rules and procedures.

Budgeting & Resource Planning

Assist in the development of the annual maintenance budget and track spending.

Oversee the procurement and stock control of maintenance tools, parts, and consumables.

Propose and evaluate supplier quotations for maintenance projects or equipment.

People Management

Lead and develop a team of Millwrights, Artisans, and Technicians.

Set clear objectives, track performance, and mentor staff for continuous improvement.

Conduct team briefings, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.

Reporting & Documentation

Monitor and report on key maintenance KPIs and operational metrics.

Maintain up-to-date maintenance logs, technical documentation, and SOPs.

Collaborate with central functions for updates on engineering standards and improvements.

System & Technical Improvements

Support in the design and implementation of technological upgrades and retrofits.

Ensure maintenance equipment is fully operational, safe, and used correctly.

Contribute to the company's technical knowledge by maintaining accurate records of procedures and repairs.

Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).

5+ years' experience in industrial maintenance, with 3+ years at a supervisory or management level.

Strong technical knowledge in mechanical and electrical systems in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Experience from a Construction Chemicals or tiling is mandatory.

Bonus

Experience in working within a high-volume production environment will be an advantage.

Knowledge of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is preferred.
