Job Title: Blaster - AR

Department: Manufacturing

Reports To: Coating Supervisor

Status: Non-Exempt

Summary

Responsible for preparing surfaces for paint application using abrasives, media blasters, or other methods as advised.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish, using abrasive-blasting equipment.
  • Shovel or pour specified grade abrasives such as sand, grit, or shot into machine hopper.
  • Operates, understands equipment processes and trouble-shoots all blasting tools and other equipment as required.
  • Regulate air pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle.
  • Directs blast or flow of abrasive mixture over surface or parts as specified.
  • Mask specified areas of object to protect from blasting.
  • Examine and measure finished product to ensure conformance to product specifications.
  • In accordance with company procedures, relocates and prepares units for next operation.
  • Clean and performing maintenance and repairs on company owned tools and equipment.
  • May perform tasks above ground level.
  • Operation and safe use of forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly working environment.
  • Complies with all safety, personal protective equipment, and material handling requirements.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Other Duties And Responsibilities

  • Participate in meetings as required.
  • Continue to improve processes to increase efficiency in job function.
  • Responsible for performing duties in a safe manner and promoting safety to others in accordance with Newterra’s safety policies and procedures. This includes reporting all safety concerns, equipment malfunctions, near-misses, and incidents to their manager immediately.
  • Provide assistance to other departments, as needed.
  • Accurately complete documents related to product quality, production efficiency or other reporting as required.
  • Complies with Quality Management System standards in accordance Newterra’s internal quality standards.
  • Responsible for completing all assigned training applicable to your position in the applicable timeframe.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or general education degree (GED) plus 1-3 years equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of blasting materials, methods, and tools.
  • Detail oriented to ensure the highest level of product quality.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Dependable.

Physical Demands

Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, heavy equipment, and machinery. Accurate hand/eye coordination is required. Finger dexterity is required, as well as hand strength, with the ability to grasp, lift, push and pull. Work involves considerable standing, stooping, or bending for long periods of time. Must be able to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolds of varying heights and lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

This is a manufacturing environment and will be exposed to elements such as loud noise, hazardous equipment, heat, restrictive clothing (blast suits, hoods, supplied air unit), dirt, dust, fumes, and other materials. Exposure to hot or cold temperatures or inclement weather based on indoor or outdoor conditions. Company safety standards must be always followed.

    • Promote Margin Improvement Opportunities and Cost Optimization Initiatives.
    • Ensure that effective cash flow management and proactive asset processes are in place to attain divisional targets.
    • Responsible for managing basic financial performance of the department, including revenue growth and operational expense control.
    • Facilitate the financial decision-making process at Senior Management level by interpreting operational requirements and integrating with discipline-based financial needs to ensure the availability of financial resources.
    • Review capital expenditure & forecasts to ensure alignment with business strategy & to optimize return on investment.
    • Direct the implementation and management of financial systems & processes to ensure optimal accountability.
    • Management of corrective actions with regards to cost controls.
    • Ensure that the commercial agreements with the different contractor partners are in place and aligned to business objectives.
    • Manage the annual budgeting process for the operation.
  • Customer/Stakeholder Relationship Management:
    • Ensure and maintain ongoing operational working relationships with the customers and stakeholders.
    • Conducting customer visits and maintaining ongoing relationships with customers as well as liaising with customer and customer services.
    • Identify key role players in the industry and build and maintain strategic relationships where necessary.
    • Create an environment of trust through timeous, open, and honest communication.
    • Interact with clients and stakeholders and find out what their requirements are and find ways to address them in a mutually beneficial way.
    • Form close links with the nominated representatives/agents in other territories to ensure that all the requirements of the clients are met and satisfied.
    • Manage and grow key customer relationships within existing accounts whilst developing new business opportunities.
  • Human Resource Management:
    • Manage the departmental HR processes in terms of HR policies & procedures, Performance Management, Training & Development, Recruitment, Manpower Planning, Discipline, etc.
    • Guiding, Directing, and Motivating Subordinates — Providing guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
    • Give effective guidance and ensure compliance with company policies & procedures.
    • Create an effective working environment and understand the political and socio-economic environment.
    • Manage discipline in all sections. Has authority for the hiring and dismissing of employees and for determining remuneration levels for the department under his control within the constraints of the divisional limitations.
    • Maintain appropriate staffing level and workload distribution to meet production and business needs.
  • SHEQ Management (ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001):
    • Responsible for adhering to the requirements of abovementioned systems as directed by the SHEQ Management System (which includes relevant legislation, Policies, Procedures, Work Instructions, specifications, etc.)
