Are you a hands-on leader with a passion for driving operational excellence in food manufacturing? Meze Foods is seeking a dynamic Manufacturing Manager to oversee all production, maintenance, and continuous improvement activities across our facility.

This is a high-impact role focused on achieving excellence in safety, quality, efficiency, cost control, and team development. You’ll work closely with production teams on the ground, ensuring smooth operations, accurate reporting, and ongoing improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead daily manufacturing operations across High Risk, Labelling, Cheese, Kitchen, Bakery, and Maintenance.
  2. Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, FSSC22000, customer specifications, and internal SOPs.
  3. Align production with sales forecasts to minimise shortages and meet demand.
  4. Oversee packaging and product compliance to quality and food safety standards.
  5. Manage preventative maintenance programmes and reduce downtime in collaboration with the Maintenance Manager.
  6. Drive a high-performance culture through team leadership, development, and engagement.
  7. Monitor material usage, reduce waste, and manage monthly stock counts.
  8. Support budget planning and lead cost-saving initiatives.
  9. Report on key operational metrics: productivity, waste, quality, maintenance.
  10. Manage and optimise annual operational and CAPEX budgets.

  • Detailed knowledge of Electrical Transmission and Distribution Systems.

  • Manufacturing Management:
    • Developing Objectives and Strategies — Establishing short, medium, and long-term objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
    • Manage timely data collection to update operations metrics to achieve productivity targets, reduce cost per unit, eliminate errors, and deliver excellent customer service.
    • Continuous optimization of efficiency, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining and improving quality standards.
    • Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics, and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets.
    • Design and enhance processes in support of continuous improvement programs.
    • Responsible for monitoring and continually improving standards of performance and quality within the operation.
    • Ensure production planning and execution is in line with customer requirements.
    • Verify progress in relation to contractual completion dates on specific contracts.
    • Ensure that all machines are in good working condition, maintained and utilized efficiently by applying preventative maintenance principles.
  • Financial Management:
    • Monthly accounts review and investigation of Income Statement including allocations and expenses incurred vs. budget.
    • Promote Margin Improvement Opportunities and Cost Optimization Initiatives.
    • Ensure that effective cash flow management and proactive asset processes are in place to attain divisional targets.
    • Responsible for managing basic financial performance of the department, including revenue growth and operational expense control.
    • Facilitate the financial decision-making process at Senior Management level by interpreting operational requirements and integrating with discipline-based financial needs to ensure the availability of financial resources.
    • Review capital expenditure & forecasts to ensure alignment with business strategy & to optimize return on investment.
    • Direct the implementation and management of financial systems & processes to ensure optimal accountability.
    • Management of corrective actions with regards to cost controls.
    • Ensure that the commercial agreements with the different contractor partners are in place and aligned to business objectives.
    • Manage the annual budgeting process for the operation.
  • Customer/Stakeholder Relationship Management:
    • Ensure and maintain ongoing operational working relationships with the customers and stakeholders.
    • Conducting customer visits and maintaining ongoing relationships with customers as well as liaising with customer and customer services.
    • Identify key role players in the industry and build and maintain strategic relationships where necessary.

  • Human Resource Management:
    • Manage the departmental HR processes in terms of HR policies & procedures, Performance Management, Training & Development, Recruitment, Manpower Planning, Discipline, etc.
    • Guiding, Directing, and Motivating Subordinates — Providing guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
    • Give effective guidance and ensure compliance with company policies & procedures.
    • Create an effective working environment and understand the political and socio-economic environment.
    • Manage discipline in all sections. Has authority for the hiring and dismissing of employees and for determining remuneration levels for the department under his control within the constraints of the divisional limitations.
    • Maintain appropriate staffing level and workload distribution to meet production and business needs.
  • SHEQ Management (ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001):
    • Responsible for adhering to the requirements of abovementioned systems as directed by the SHEQ Management System (which includes relevant legislation, Policies, Procedures, Work Instructions, specifications, etc.)
    • Minimize business losses for accidents, occupational illness, and environmental incidents on the plants.

Factory Manager (Textiles) – Piet Retief, Mpumalanga.

Our client, a leading manufacturer in the textile and garment sector, is seeking an experienced and operationally strong Factory Manager to oversee a large-scale clothing production facility in the Piet Retief / Southern Eswatini region.

This role requires a dynamic leader who is hands-on, results-driven, and comfortable managing production at scale within a high-output environment.

Industry: Large-scale Garment Factory | ±500–1000 Staff | Gerber Systems | Wovens & Knitwear.

Salary: Above-Market related available/negotiable for the right exp. Factory Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Full accountability for day-to-day garment production operations across all departments.
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, performance, quality, and throughput for 500–1000 factory employees.
  • Lead production planning, line efficiency, cost control, and delivery scheduling.
  • Manage technical operations including Gerber automated cutting systems, sewing machinery, and finishing equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, labour, and quality standards in both South African and cross-border (Eswatini) contexts.
  • Drive continuous improvement, waste reduction, and productivity optimisation using lean principles.
  • Mentor and lead multi-level production and technical teams with a focus on stability, quality, and performance.

Requirements:

  • National Diploma or Degree in: Textile Technology, Production/Operations Management, or Industrial Engineering
  • Alt.: Recognised certifications in Garment Manufacturing, Lean Production, or Factory Management.
  • Advanced MS Excel and factory MIS/ERP systems exp. will be beneficial.
  • 8–12+ years of hands-on exp. managing high-volume garment/textile manufacturing plants.
  • Strong leadership background in factories producing wovens, knitwear, or both.
  • Demonstrated track record of managing 500+ staff across technical, supervisory, and production lines.
    Advanced knowledge of Gerber technology (marker planning, cutting room efficiency) and industrial garment equipment.
    Strong production planning, cost control, and quality assurance capabilities.

This role is based on-site and would ideally suit candidates residing in or willing to relocate to the Piet Retief or Southern Eswatini border region.

We are hiring a Factory Manager to join our fast moving and growing lighting manufacturing production facility based in Richmond Park, Cape Town.

The FM oversees the overall manufacturing facility and production lines, interfacing closely with procurement and stock management functions. This role works together with the Chief Product Officer and other senior managers and supervisors to ensure that products are manufactured to the highest possible quality standards, in compliance with relevant safety and industry-related regulations and standards.

The FM will oversee all the current staff in the Richmond Park Facility as well as the anticipated headcount growth in line with the expected expansion. Products produced include LED luminaires, geyser controllers, microgrid controllers, inverters and lithium-iron batteries.

Role Reports into: CPO

Direct Reports: around 3 - 5

Indirect Reports: around 45

Role responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all activities within the production facility
  • Work closely with material planners to ensure that raw materials are correctly procured on a just-in-time basis
  • Assessing standard and non-standard manufacturing requirements and the resources it may require
  • Oversight of production supervisors and production planning.
  • Oversee production schedules, timeously adjusting when necessary
  • Facilitating regular factory meetings to discuss and manage any issues related to staff, production orders and material or equipment requirements
  • Set-up, maintain and provide a monthly factory reports.
  • Identification and elimination of production waste.
  • Identification, implementation and maintenance of continuous improvement programs in line with industry best practices and LEAN methodologies.
  • Drafting and deployment of work-instructions and procedures to support and improve factory operations
  • Ensuring that factory staff adhere to stipulated company policies, procedures and work instructions at all times
  • Ensuring that stipulated health and safety regulations are always met
  • Ensuring that all pre-determined quality requirements are always met
  • Oversight of repair and maintenance programs of production equipment
  • Overseeing and managing periodic stock take activities in the factory
  • Organising and or executing relevant training sessions for factory staff pertaining to company policies and procedures pertaining to HSE, product assembly and quality awareness
  • Implementation and management of quality management systems
  • Work closely with relevant stakeholders to develop new products and production processes for them
  • Assist in creating and accurately implementing annual budgets
  • Ensuring that regular feedback is provided to senior management regarding the status of production and the factory
  • Any reasonable instruction given by senior management

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Matric/NQF 4 level qualification - essential
  • Relevant business management tertiary qualification
  • Electro-mechanical / Electronic Trade qualification
  • 5-7 yrs experience in a high volume production environment, preferably in ;lighting, electronics or electrical accessories market space - essential
  • 3-5 yrs experience in people management in a production environment with direct people management responsibilities
  • Good working knowledge of ERP and MRP systems
  • Good working knowledge of ISO 9001 QMS
  • Own vehicle and driver's licence
