We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Accounting Manager to join our Real Estate department in Cape Town. This key management role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic and professional environment, reporting to senior leadership based in Jersey/South Africa. The ideal candidate would bring at least three years of relevant experience in a similar organization or audit practice and hold a recognized professional qualification (CA(SA), SAIPA, or ACCA). Strong leadership capabilities and the ability to operate independently are essential, as the role also involves the supervision and development of staff in the South African office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Manager or above by running a large portfolio of varied clients in a managerial capacity, ensuring that financial statements are prepared on a timely basis and liaising with admin teams to ensure deadlines and other requirements.
  • Review annual financial statements prepared in accordance with FRS 102 or IFRS.
  • Prepare or review management accounts, NAVs and annual financial statements, in accordance with FRS 102 or IFRS, for more complex client groups.
  • Prepare or review and submit VAT/CIS returns where applicable
  • Ensure that current accounting standards and best practice principles are applied to the accounts production process and kept current as such standards and principles develop
  • Ensure that bank accounts and property manager reports have been reconciled in accordance with the Company’s procedures and that all reconciling items are satisfactorily resolved.
  • Attend board meetings to present accounts and other client meetings to provide technical accounting support
  • Ensure overall control of the accounting services provided to the allocated portfolio of clients, raising potential issues and roadblocks to the Directors as early as possible
  • Provide on the job coaching and supervision to accounting team members.
  • Maintain and develop good relationships with client personnel.
  • Develop and maintain good staff relations generally in the Firm.
  • Demonstrate strong accounting technical knowledge when dealing with admin teams, client personnel and auditors.
  • Ensure that all work is conducted in accordance with Company internal procedures.
  • Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and security in terms of client affairs and papers.
  • Monitor your own performance against personal and development targets.
  • Monitor the performance of any staff allocated to you and bring any concerns to the attention of the relevant Director.
  • Identify areas where further training is required and bring these to the attention of the Directors.
  • Ensure compliance with the Company’s professional conduct, quality and ethical standards.
  • Keep up-to-date with current industry issues, e.g. changes in legislation, relevant accounting standards.
  • Establish credibility with clients.
  • Oversee the quality of client services provided by direct reports.
  • Be responsible for building and maintaining productive working relationships with clients.
  • Establish, build and maintain relationships with external contacts.
  • Ensure accuracy of billing.
  • Ensure time sheets are up to date at all times.
  • Produce and manage fee estimates and quotations where required.

Skills & Experience

  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a similar organization.
  • Experience in managing a large team
  • Hold a suitable professional qualification (CA(SA), SAIPA, ACCA)
  • Strong communications skills to engage at all levels and develop internal and external business relationships
  • Previous Real Estate accounting and experience.
  • Preferably, candidates should have experience with Yardi.

Introduction

Join our Finance team in Prospecton as a skilled General Ledger Supervisor. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in upholding financial standards, managing the Fixed Asset module, scrutinizing creditor reconciliations, and meticulously preparing and reviewing journals.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and update Fixed Assets on E1, facilitating transfers and disposals when required.
  • Maintain the CapEx Vote schedule and electronic capex system.
  • Prepare AA & TA asset reconciliations.
  • Balance the CapEx Vote Schedule with monthly additions.
  • Reconcile all CapEX WIP accounts.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations for GL, including Bank, Petty Cash, Insurance, Forex P/L, and Foreign Currency Bank accounts.
  • Address General Ledger-related queries, assist with Hash-related queries, and process Hash journals.
  • Balance time entries monthly.
  • Review all R&M accounts and process necessary month-end journals.
  • Calculate and prepare monthly VAT payable to SARS, providing an audit trail with supporting documents, and submitting VAT returns via e-filing.
  • Review Creditors Month-End Reconciliations.
  • Assist the Financial Manager and Assistant Accountant with ad hoc tasks.
  • Prepare financial year-end journals and assist with the preparation of year-end files.
  • Maintain and review the journal batch control register to ensure all journals are authorized, supported by documentation, and processed promptly.
  • Liaise with Auditors during year-end.
Minimum Requirements
  • Matric / Grade 12 with a 3-year Accounting Diploma / B. Comm Degree.
  • 3 years’ experience in General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Creditors, and VAT.
  • Working knowledge of Accounting Principles & Policies, VAT, and treatment of Fixed Assets.
  • Computer literacy in MS Excel, MS Word, and JDE.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight reporting deadlines, and demonstrate attention to detail.

The COO is responsible for all of the Group operations and requires this role to provide support in executing the implementation, integration and analysis of certain tasks. These tasks will be varied and targeted dependent upon the needs of the COO and the Group.

As an example, the initial primary priority is to support the Altum Management Company (Luxembourg) S.A. (“AMC” or “the Company”) in overseeing and managing revenue processes for our fund clients. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that our revenues are accurately calculated, invoiced, collected, and reported in a timely and efficient manner.

Further examples are participating in client migrations from an incumbent service provider to Altum Group; analysis of operational improvements and building out supporting dashboards and reports.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic and growing Group while being based in South Africa and collaborating closely with teams across Luxembourg and the wider Altum Group.

Key Responsibilities

The role responsibilities will be diverse and not limited to the following, indicatively outlined below for the purposes of the initial priority:

  • Calculate and oversee the Company’s revenues related to our funds’ clients
  • Ensure accurate and timely invoicing of revenues, including trailer fees, management company fees, and investment management fees.
  • Supervise and support the internal payments team;
  • Monitor and follow up on revenue collection to ensure prompt payment from our fund clients;
  • Oversee the monitoring and timely payment of service provider invoices relating to our fund clients.
  • Reconcile invoiced revenues against reported revenues in recurring financial reports (monthly, quarterly, and annually).
  • Assist in preparing the Company’s revenue budget and regularly update revenue forecasts. Reconcile actual revenues against both invoiced and budgeted figures.
  • Collaborate with the Altum Group team responsible for corporate accounting for the Company.
  • Monitor the Company’s aged debtors report and proactively follow up to ensure timely collection of outstanding invoices.

In addition, you will:

  • Support the timely and accurate response to statutory audit queries related to the Company’s revenue and financial reporting;
  • Assist the internal corporate accounting team to ensure revenues are accurately and promptly recorded in the Company’s accounting systems.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial services.
  • Good knowledge of financial markets and investment products;
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English;
  • Analytical thinker with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, be solution orientated;
  • Ability to think critically and offer creative solutions (“out of the box thinking”);
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude;
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to effectively prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be self motivated and able to work as part of a team and independently

We are seeking a Manager, reporting to an Associate Director within the Business Services division at Apex. This role involves supporting the growing alternative assets team with a focus on developing and mentoring team members, implementing procedures for the Johannesburg office and private debt team, and providing high-quality customer service.   • Assisting in the Management of specialised services teams on all aspects of financial reporting, including working directly with Apex's customers to ensure their structures are run efficiently in compliance with the relevant laws and contractual obligations, and being involved with the management team to strategically build the business.
  • Working with the management team and Directors to ensure the planning, coordination and completion of NAVs, Management Reporting and Statutory Reporting of the structures to ensure the team complies with all of its accounting and regulatory obligations.
  • Ensuring quality control prior to the further review and approval of Apex's authorised persons including payments, calculations and transactions.
  • Preparation and implementation of entity customer specific procedures in relation to the reporting requirements.
  • Ensuring reporting complies with entity and statutory requirements including local law, relevant GAAP or IFRS and other reporting principles.
  • Development and maintenance of divisional and departmental policies and procedures, and support implementation of new structures.
  • Ensuring that all day-to-day matters required to be completed are performed in a timely and satisfactory manner including monitoring tasks and delegating these across the relevant managers team; Support the implementation of new structures.
  • Act as primary point of contact with auditors in respect of the planning and coordination of the audits.
  • Be able to provide sound, quality, and technical guidance to clients and assist with the training of junior staff.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support the strategic development of the client team including client meetings, new business pitches and new business proposals.

Skills / Experience

  • Professional qualification - CA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent.
  • Ideally three - four years' experience in a similar relevant capacity in the finance industry.
  • An understanding of regulatory and financial reporting regime and IFRS.
  • Ability to motivate and influence a team, high level of managerial skills.
