An exciting opportunity exists for a Qualified Diesel Mechanic who has the attributes to lead and manage a maintenance department. The successful candidate will be responsible for all Mechanical Maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Regular inspections on equipment to identify hazards, defects or need for repair.
2. Complete equipment check sheets as per manufacturer's requirements.
3. Capacity to take initiative on all projects.
4. Complete projects in the expected time frame.
5. Making schedules, assigning work, and training employees.
6. Motivate employees to increase their productivity and meet work goals.
7. Ensure proper maintenance of equipment, compliance with mechanical codes, and adherence to safety regulations.
8. Responsible for mechanical systems installation, troubleshooting, repairs, and services as required.
9. Design mechanical systems and equipment, as well as contribute to improved designs and manufacturing processes.
10. Report any incidents to the maintenance manager.
11. Attend to breakdowns.
12. Ensure adequate inventory, prioritize purchases, prepare cost estimates, and document purchases.
13. Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools in a factory environment.
14. Grade 12.
15. 3-5 years’ experience working as a qualified artisan.
16. Management/Supervisory experience.
17. Valid Driver’s Licence.
18. Own transport.
19. Knowledge of mechanical maintenance and related universal best practices.
20. Knowledge of legislative and industry protocols and regulations that apply in maintenance.

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with solid experience in hydro generator systems and associated cooling equipment. This role focuses on the mechanical engineering aspects of generators including housing rotor / stator integration and thermal management systems ensuring operational efficiency and reliability in hydro generation stations.

Key Responsibilities :

• Lead mechanical design reviews for hydro generators stators rotors and auxiliaries
• Evaluate generator cooling systems (air hydrogen or watercooled) and ventilation design
• Coordinate closely with electrical engineers on integration of electromechanical systems
• Manage specifications and vendor interfaces for mechanical generator systems
• Support installation alignment and mechanical performance testing
• Review OEM documentation and ensure compliance with project requirements and standards

Qualifications :

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering (Masters preferred)
• Minimum of 8 years experience in hydro or large rotating electrical machinery
• Strong understanding of generator mechanical design principles and cooling strategies
• Experience working with OEMs on generator system procurement and testing
• Familiarity with generator codes and standards (e.g. IEC IEEE ASME)
• Proficient in interpreting mechanical stress vibration and thermal analyses
• Excellent coordination skills with electrical and control teams
