Key Performance Areas:

Inventory management:

  • Ensure that all clients are on-boarded onto Cargowise warehouse management system
  • Ensure that automated stock on hand reports are setup for clients
  • Ensure that Cargowise system is effectively used for client stock takes
  • Ensure weekly plan accounts for cycle counts for entire product range
  • Ensure each client account is subjected to a monthly physical stock count comparing the physical stock on floor to Cargowise stock at hand in line with the SLA requirements
  • Ensure that cycle counts and stock take results are submitted to clients in line with SLA requirements

Operations:

  • Chep recons – ensure weekly Chep reconciliations are completed and documented
  • Material handling equipment – ensure that all MHE checklists are reviewed daily and that all deviations and repairs required are attended to
  • Manage warehouse space to maximise storage capacity and streamline product movement
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and company policies within the warehouse

Client interaction:

  • Ensure all client complaints are being dealt with timeously
  • Submit a monthly report to the General Manager, detailing complaints received
  • Attend SLA meetings with clients where required

People management:

  • Leading and managing warehouse staff, assigning tasks and ensuring proper training to maintain operational efficiencies
  • Contract labour management

Finance:

  • Ensure that all operational billing activities are accounted for monthly
  • Review monthly billing schedules
  • Cost control measure to be put in place

The Department of Logistics is one of several departments within Stellenbosch University’s (SU) Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, and is also the oldest tertiary academic department in South Africa to provide education in transport economics and logistics. The Department houses the disciplines of logistics and supply chain management, operations research, business analytics, and transport economics and is the only department at a South African university fully offering the various disciplines integrated in one department.

This role requires a candidate with experience and skills in logistics and supply chain management. Practical experience and/or teaching experience and/or research in at least three of the following are preferred: sustainable supply chain management, packaging logistics, humanitarian logistics, strategic sourcing, global dimension of supply chains, supply chain collaboration, logistics and supply chain analytics, visual data analysis, experiential learning, and artificial intelligence in logistics and supply chain management.

Job Description

Duties:

  • Delivering high quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in logistics and supply chain management.
  • Postgraduate research supervision on honours and master’s level.
  • Subject-related research and publication in DHET accredited journals.
  • Rendering relevant services to the University and the community, including administrative duties and serving on committees.
Inherent Criteria

Requirements:

  • A relevant master’s degree from a recognised university (e.g. masters in logistics management, master’s in supply chain management, master’s in industrial engineering with thesis topic in logistics and supply chain management, master’s in business management with thesis topic in logistics and supply chain management).
  • The ability and desire to complete a PhD in logistics and supply chain management.
  • An excellent academic track record – full transcripts for all undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications required.
  • Level of experience required (at least one of the following):

o Research experience and relevant publications in the field of logistics and supply chain management in at least one DHET accredited journal; or

o Industry experience (of at least one year) within the private or public sector; or

o Teaching experience (of at least one year) within logistics and supply chain management.

  • The ability to teach in a multilingual environment.
  • Proven digital literacy, including proficiency with the various Microsoft software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
  • Proven quantitative and analytical skills, including the use of visualisation software (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, ATLAS.ti, etc.).

Short-listed candidates (those invited for interviews) will be expected to present a lecture on a designated topic to academic staff of the Department of Logistics to demonstrate their excellence in teaching, as well as their digital, analytical and data visualisation skills.

Recommendations:

  • Knowledge in at least three of the following specialisation areas: sustainable supply chain management, packaging logistics, humanitarian logistics, strategic sourcing, global dimension of supply chains, supply chain collaboration, logistics and supply chain analytics, visual data analysis, experiential learning, and artificial intelligence in logistics and supply chain management.
  • Experience in using learning management systems (e.g. Moodle).
  • Experience in working and engaging with industry.
  • Exposure in research and/or teaching within the field of transport economics.

Minimum Requirements

For Grade 12 Applicants:

  • Valid South African ID
  • National Senior Certificate with a minimum 70% average
  • Upload latest Grade 11 & current Grade 12 results

For Tertiary Students:

  • Enrolled at an accredited South African tertiary institution
  • Minimum 60% average in major subjects
  • Submit full academic record including 2025 results

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to complete vacation work at one of our regional head offices
  • Willingness to relocate after studies for potential employment or work-back obligations
  • Fluency in English and Afrikaans (spoken and written)

The Manager, Supply Management & Logistics & Indirect Procurement for the Middle East & Africa (MEA) will lead procurement strategy development, participate in strategic sourcing, and focus on logistics procurement for the region. The role also involves acting as the main contact for all indirect procurement activities in MEA, collaborating with global teams to expand spend coverage.

The position requires close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to develop effective procurement strategies and implementation plans. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Supply Management, the role covers categories such as:

  • Logistics – Ground Transport, Warehousing, Co-packing (60-70% of worktime)
  • Other indirect categories as needed

Main missions include:

  • Implementing logistics procurement strategies aligned with global guidelines
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement and value addition
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to develop and execute procurement plans
  • Supporting RFP processes and ensuring cost savings and service quality
  • Supporting ESG and sustainability initiatives

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop procurement strategies for logistics suppliers in MEA
  • Coordinate category strategy planning, including insights collection, supplier mapping, and sourcing
  • Deploy sourcing best practices and monitor performance against savings targets
  • Manage supplier relationships and negotiations
  • Ensure compliance with policies and regulations
