Ready-Mix Concrete Logistics Controller

The Ready-Mix Concrete Logistics Controller will be responsible for managing the logistics operations of our ready-mix concrete supply chain for the Transkei and Lesotho regions, ensuring efficient delivery of concrete products to construction sites while maintaining the highest standards of service. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate logistics activities to meet customer requirements and project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Requests and Order Management:
    • Receive request for quotation and attend to within mandated turnaround time/escalate to tenders’ department where required.
    • Receive orders for ready-mix concrete from customers, ensuring to include concrete specifications, quantities, and delivery locations, special instructions, etc.
    • Coordinate with the operational team ensuring timely fulfillment of customer orders.
    • Communicate with customers to confirm order details, delivery schedules, and any challenges experienced.
  • Dispatch and Routing:
    • Plan and optimize delivery for ready-mix concrete trucks based on order locations, traffic conditions, and truck/plant capacities.
    • Monitor truck movements and obtain/provide real-time updates from dispatchers to customers and project stakeholders regarding delivery status.
  • Customer Service:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding concrete orders, delivery inquiries, and scheduling changes.
    • Resolve customer complaints or issues related to delivery delays, product quality, or service discrepancies in a timely and professional manner, by escalating to the appropriate department head and ensuring close out within the acceptable timeframes.
    • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, contractors, and project managers to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Raw Material Management:
    • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, aggregates, and cement to ensure adequate supply for concrete production.
    • Coordinate with suppliers to replenish inventory as needed and optimize inventory levels.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Male/Female, between ages of 30-50
  • Physically fit and healthy
  • Matric
  • Relevant tertiary qualification advantageous, but not mandatory
  • Valid driver's license and own car
  • At least 5 years’ experience in logistics coordination, preferably within the ready-mix concrete/Construction industry
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Export control compliance to be coordinated
  • Assist of exporting of "obsolete" stock - estimates, timeline, documentation, freight approvals.
  • Freight estimates for exports - sample and out of the ordinary freight requests
  • Obtain estimates for tooling, machine and projects transfers.
  • Relevant reporting for sub-department
  • Coordinate weekly meetings with Market / Custer Comex team on freight management topics
  • Compliance with Benteler's IATF 16949 standards.

Freight Partner Management:

  • Coordinate weekly freight partner operations meeting, manage Status reports, vessel movement and ZMM60 forecast reporting
  • Ensure all clearing instructions for Import shipments (AIR & SEA) are issued to forwarders
  • Monitor courier shipment bookings, CI, mandate letters, etc with freight partners
  • Follow up on all outstanding freight queries with material planners, freight forwarders and suppliers.
  • Adhoc Incoming / outgoing freight management and freight forwarder management
  • Lodge, manage and resolve claims with freight partners
  • Perform monthly & quarterly business reviews

Finance / Controlling:

  • Create freight orders for finance for each import and export and local transport shipment for all the above
  • Submissions of all premium freight costs per allocation per shipment
  • After month end ALL freight orders are put in spreadsheet with reason for premium costs
  • Freight Accruals - Update monthly accruals to Controlling, both preview & final figures
  • Annual freight budget creation & management
  • Monthly freight forecasting - Collation of data & forecast for year rolling
  • Validation and management correct allocation of spend per general ledge.

Projects

  • Assist project team with the freight regarding launches for tooling, machines and material - to ensure OTIF and within budget
  • Weekly LOP update on shipment status
  • Landed costings review & submission to projects and Purchasing
  • Participate in the final stages of global freight RFQ's and the Implementation of new trade lanes
