Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver lectures and engage students based on module-specific requirements in line with module pacing.
  2. Manage resources including academic materials and liaise with the Information Centre.
  3. Update Learning Management System and provide feedback to students.
  4. Engage and prepare students for assessments, identify at-risk students, and develop assessments in accordance with Central Academic Team briefings.
  5. Monitor student engagement and assessment submissions, with relevant escalation.
  6. Attend and participate in academic meetings across all faculties.
  7. Support Part-time Lecturers with faculty requirements.
  8. Reflect on, review, and analyze student module results.
  9. Offer academic support to the Programme Coordinator with results analysis and tracking of modules to assess performance and identify at-risk modules.
  10. Develop and design teaching-learning materials to support module-specific outcomes.
  11. Assist with student registration and orientation as required.
  12. Conduct scholarly disciplinary-based or SOTL research and deliver research outputs according to institution/brand’s research targets; contribute to teaching-learning practices.
  13. Complete a set number of academic professional development interventions per cycle to improve teaching practices and professional status.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Education, Honours NQF Level 8
  • Bachelor of Education in Foundation / PGCE NQF Level 7
  • 2 to 3 years of lecturing or formal tutoring experience
  • 1 to 3 years of industry-specific experience in the area of specialization (advantageous)

Job Description

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lecture and assess contact learning and distance learning students in the Higher Certificate in Early Childhood Education, Diploma in Grade R Teaching and BEd (Foundation Phase Teaching) programmes in the following modules:
  • Early Childhood Development
  • Health Education in Early Childhood Development
  • Practical Management of an Early Childhood and Development Center
  • Management in an Early Childhood Development Context
  • Theoretical Perspective in Education
  • Formulate teaching, learning, and assessment materials.
  • Use a learning management system independently and/or work collaboratively to develop and deliver modules effectively.
  • Participate in relevant programme, curriculum and material development.
  • Carry out allocated internal moderation responsibilities.
  • Participate in school-based Teaching Practice assessments.
  • Provide academic support to students.
  • Complete all Quality Assurance requirements related to the modules and programmes.
  • Participate in research and community engagement projects.
  • Ensure prompt and effective communication with students, colleagues, line managers, and other members of management.
  • Ensure administrative efficiency, effectiveness and compliance with all policies and SOPs.
  • Attend, participate and engage in meetings and workshops.
  • Fulfil functions on relevant committees, and in meetings and workshops as reasonably requested by management.
  • Fulfil all reasonably expected administrative functions relating to the position and as requested by the relevant line manager.

Qualification And Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor of Education Honours or equivalent qualification with relevant study in Early Childhood Education and/or Foundation Phase
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience in a tertiary institution.
  • Knowledge and understanding in the relevant phase of Early Childhood Education and/or Foundation Phase.
  • Experience in distance online teaching and learning environments will be an advantage.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Sound teaching and assessment skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational, administration and coordination skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
  • High level of digital literacy with good knowledge of modern Information Technology infrastructure and online learning platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to cope with change.
  • Willingness to work when required on Saturdays.

JOb Purpose

Coordinate and support the day-to-day delivery of Early Childhood Development (ECD) activities in the field. This includes assisting with coaching and mentoring ECD centres and RTOs on component tools, supporting Community Play Facilitators (CPFs), analyzing project data, and maintaining strong administrative and reporting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and ensure all ECD workforce on the programme have the resource materials, training requirements, and logistical support needed for effective project implementation.
  • Monitor attendance, lesson plan execution, and adherence to programme guidelines to ensure quality delivery at ECD Centres.
  • Coordinate Pop-up early learning sessions and other outreach activities, ensuring tools and resources are prepared and available.
  • Liaise with relevant service provider(s) and/or ECD workforce directly and prepare for Pop-Up tools and resources
  • Provide on-site mentoring and practical guidance to ECD workforce, and any relevant service providers during visits, escalating complex issues to the ECD Lead as needed.
  • Ensure ECD workforce follow agreed daily programmes and quality standards
  • Facilitate problem-solving at the centre level, applying adaptive approaches to resource and delivery challenges
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret programme data to track progress and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support the ECD Lead with drafting and consolidation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (ksa)

Required Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in Community Development, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.

Required Experience

  • 2–3 years’ experience in ECD programme implementation, training, or coordination.
  • Experience in mentoring or coaching ECD educators/practitioners
  • Knowledge of Department of Basic Education (DBE) norms and standards for ECD.
  • Valid, unendorsed driver’s license with a minimum of 2 years’ driving experience and willingness to travel extensively.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Strong time management, organization, and multitasking capacity.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and under tight timelines.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and prepare clear reports.
