Position outputs
This position is responsible for delivering and facilitating the technical course curriculums. This includes classroom instruction, field instruction, and administering assessments. This position is also involved in the creation and implementation of curriculums following the standards of Barloworld Equipment, Caterpillar and relevant regulatory bodies.
Learning Facilitation
Facilitate learning interventions according to the Caterpillar prescribed quality levels.
Conduct theoretical and practical training on technical systems and components as required by the curriculum.
Assess learning as per the pre-defined processes.
Coach and develop technical learners to the highest standard including standards set by OEMs (Caterpillar/Perkins etc.) and regulatory bodies such as merSETA/ MQA etc.
Implement the checklists/quality controls as provided by the Learning Manager: Technical
Conduct training at customer sites as required.
Liaise with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the implementation of quality programmes/courses.
Evaluation and Support
- Manage and implement quality learning practices including but not limited to:
o Assessment of learning
o Course certification – ensure learners completed all requirements for certificates to be issued
o Recognise gaps in training and ensure alignment of programme outcomes with business requirements.
o Recommend improvements to the Learning Manager: Technical / Learning Specialist: Compliance.
Learning Management
Complete and process training administration according to Learning Academy policy and procedures
Ensure all materials for the classes are in place before classes commence (including tools booked for practicals, training materials are ready, etc.)
Build and maintain positive and effective working relationships internally and externally (with business/functional leaders i.e. be a trusted advisor).
Qualification, Experience and Competencies
Minimum Required Qualification:
Qualified in relevant trade (e.g. Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Earthmoving Mechanic) – "Red Seal"
Caterpillar Certified (Advanced)
Minimum Required Experience:
Four years post qualification experience in relevant industry
Field Service experience
Experience in Facilitation, Assessments, and Coaching will be an advantage

mothers2mothers (m2m) is an African-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) that employs women living with HIV as frontline community health workers (CHWs) called Mentor Mothers and Peer Mentors, in health facilities and surrounding communities across ten countries in sub-Saharan Africa. m2m's Strategic Plan aims to address Africa's biggest health challenges towards our vision of Healthy Women, Healthy Families, Healthier World. We have expanded our model with the ambition of become a leading primary healthcare organization contributing to the acceleration of Universal Health Coverage on the continent, while continuing to prevent and treat HIV.
The shortage of CHWs in sub-Saharan Africa is a mission critical barrier to achieving Universal Health Coverage and reducing health disparities. Addressing this shortage remains imperative for improving access to quality healthcare for individuals and communities. Investing in learning and development, training, mentoring, and supporting CHWs is essential for improving population-based health outcomes and addressing health inequity in sub-Saharan Africa.
Against this background, m2m is building on its 20-year track record of training more than 11,700 Peer Mentors, by embarking on a critical strategic objective over the next five years – the development and implementation of the m2m Smart Learning Solution. m2mSLS harnesses the power of innovative 21st century learning technology (i.e. personalized, adaptive, "smart" learning) of accredited curricula on the Totara Talent Experience Platform to deliver affordable, effective training and education of the sub-Saharan health workforce at scale – starting with CHWs.
Against this background, m2m seeks to recruit a skilled Learning Design Specialist to support in the operationalisation of this world-class Smart Learning Solution. The Learning Design Specialist at m2m is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Learning Design team. In this respect, m2m seeks a candidate for this role who possesses excellent skills in managing teams and stakeholders, along with a proven understanding of, and track record in executing, the most current concepts in smart learning. The incumbent in this position will be accountable for executing, enhancing and streamlining learning design processes, managing operations, facilitating onboarding, upholding quality standards, contributing to the enhancement of the design strategy, and ensuring the timely and scoped development of m2m's curricula / curricula featured on the m2mSLS.
Key Performance Areas:
Leadership and Management:
- Support the recruitment and onboarding of all Learning Design team members, including permanent staff, freelancers, contract workers and/or consultants.
- Lead, mentor and grow a team of effective Learning Designers.
- Apply agile practices to allocate team resources efficiently, balancing workloads and skill sets to ensure projects are completed effectively and on time.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for direct reports and track their progress, providing regular feedback to team members to ensure they meet or exceed performance expectations.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the team, ensuring each member receives training and coaching to enhance their skills and expertise.
Design and Development:
- Liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including Learning Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation Unit, Primary Health Care Unit, Country Technical Unit, and SLS vendors to ensure effective and collaborative design and smart learning curricula delivery.
- Develop guidance documents and policies and contribute to departmental / unit process development and improvement.

- Manage production planning in the context of Learning Technology – specifically Totara TXP.
- Work closely with the TXP Administrator to maintain and optimise the e-learning platform for effective content delivery.
- Support the operationalisation of the digital content strategy, collaboratively with Totara TXP Administrator and in-house Totara Support Team.
Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement:
- Conduct regular reviews and audits of learning materials / curricula for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established quality standards.
- Work with the Senior Manager, m2mSLS to design, test, develop and evaluate new and existing educational models and products.
- Manage quality assurance processes, and work on evaluation strategies to review the effectiveness of learning design strategy.
- Create mechanisms for collecting and analysing feedback from learners and stakeholders, using this data to make continuous improvements.
- Stay informed about industry best practices, benchmark against competitors, and continuously evolve the quality standards based on market trends.
- Oversee management of the asset tracking process, ensuring that all resources and content are accounted for.
- Oversee royalty payments as applicable.
Project Management:
- Initiate planning processes for course evaluations and new course / curriculum development.
- Support the development of comprehensive work plans for curriculum design projects, outlining clear objectives, milestones, timelines, and resource allocation.
- Manage projects and work with various operational stakeholders to ensure that deadlines are adhered to and that project communication takes place in a timely and effective manner.
- Maintain open and transparent communication with project stakeholders, providing regular updates and addressing concerns or questions as they arise.
- Employ project management methodologies and tools to track project progress, manage risks, and ensure successful project outcomes.
Budget Management:
- Working with Senior Manager, m2mSLS, to ensure capacity allocations align with unit budget.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree, plus 3+ years of relevant experience in learning design / learning and development, public health, education, or a related field. Honours Degree preferred.
- 3+ years of team leadership/mid-management experience.
- Proven skills and experience in learning design and the development of learner-centred digital learning experiences and resources.
- Practical knowledge of digital learning principles and practices, as well as current and future trends in digital technologies.
- Demonstrated experience in smart learning design, quality assurance and quality improvement.
- Demonstrated project management skills in the development of digital content for online courses / curricula.
- Knowledge of public health-related topics is a strong demonstration.

Feltex seeking an experienced Learning & Development Specialist to oversee the design, delivery, and evaluation of occupationally directed education, training, and development initiatives across its operations. The successful incumbent will be responsible for ensuring impactful learning solutions, compliance with legislative and skills development requirements, effective training interventions, and strong learning governance.
This role plays a key part in supporting organisational performance by enhancing leadership and employee capability, driving continuous learning, monitoring skills development outcomes, and embedding a culture of growth. The Learning & Development Specialist will also lead training initiatives, collaborate closely with line managers and business leadership, and ensure that all learning practices align with organisational objectives.
Minimum Requirements- Grade 12
- National Diploma in Human Resource Management or relevant tertiary qualification in the Education, Training and Development field at NQF level 6
- Minimum 2-3 years in a similar role
- Additional Requirement (Advantageous): Registered Skills Development Facilitator / Coach and Mentor / Assessor and Moderator
HR Legislation:
- Translate legislative changes into relevant HR Policies and Practices.
- An in depth understanding of and to comply with the relevant HR Legislation (Labour Relations Act, Employment Equity Act, BBBEE Act, Skills Development Act, MIBCO Main Agreement etc.)
Employment Equity:
- Participate in the implementation and utilisation of equity related processes.
BBBEE:
- Create an awareness of BBBEE within the Group.
- Assist the Learning & Development Manager with the skills element within BBBEE.
Training and Development:
- Assist the line managers and facilitators in identifying employee training needs and problem solving around these issues.
- Analyse the individual development plans of employees to understand the training and development requirements.
- Discuss with external suppliers and facilitators on specific requirements of the learning and development intervention and source details, as defined in the training strategy, in order to meet organisational, departmental and individual development needs. (evaluate the programmes using accepted criteria).
- Schedule staff to attend internal and external learning events in accordance with the wider learning and development strategy.
- Develop material for in-house training.
- Ensure that appropriate resources are available, e.g. venue, equipment, course material, manpower, etc.
- Collate training information for audit purposes – BBBEE, ISO etc.
- Participate in audits and ensure recommendations are actioned.
- Facilitate internal training interventions.
- Gather information for learning communications i.e. noticeboards, newsletters etc.
- Collate learning and development evaluations to enable amendments to programmes.
- Provide technical expertise on external industry committees and bodies.
Administration:
- Prepare learning and development materials to a consistently high standard and ensure that they reach the delegates/facilitators within agreed timescales.
- Update the learning and development calendar.
Workplace Assessments:
- Administer, coordinate and maintain assessment records.
- Coordinate Standards Based Assessments processes and conduct outcomes-based assessments.
SETA Management:
- Manage learners and learnerships through the SETA.
- Co-ordinate and provide input into the Workplace Skills Plan to ensure accurate and timely submission.
- Provide administrative support in the skills development levy claim process.
- Perform programme planning, co-ordination and qualification development within the SETA framework.
Reporting:
- Compile Training and Development monthly reports

KEY PURPOSE
The vacancy is for a
Learning and Development Specialist
to join the Discovery Institute of Training. This role is responsible for designing, developing, delivering, and implementing impactful learning solutions that build capability across various roles and levels within Discovery. These include leadership development, core (soft) skills, and business performance support, using a mix of in-person facilitation, virtual training, and digital formats. In addition to design responsibilities, this role will also be accountable for the effective delivery and facilitation of training interventions across multiple modalities, ensuring meaningful learning experiences and driving behaviour change and performance improvement.
KEY OUTPUTS
- Learning needs analysis and stakeholder consultation: Conduct in-depth learning needs analyses in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders on all levels. Identify skills gaps, performance challenges, and capability needs across the organisation.
- Design, development, and delivery of learning solutions: Design, develop, and deliver high-impact learning interventions using a blended learning approach, including in-person facilitation, virtual training, and digital content, to support leadership development, core (soft) skills, and business performance.
- Training facilitation: Facilitate engaging, high-quality leadership development and core (soft) skills training sessions that drive behaviour change and performance outcomes. Ensure facilitation is tailored to the audience and aligned with business objectives.
- Learning project initiation and management: Initiate and manage custom learning and business support initiatives that align with business strategy and drive measurable impact. Propose and implement new tools, methodologies, and learning solutions that positively influence performance.
- Strategic contribution and innovation: Actively contribute to the strategic planning and continuous improvement of the Discovery Institute of Training. Use deep learning and development knowledge and experience to shape departmental direction, propose innovative solutions, and align team outputs with strategic business goals.
- Impact measurement and evaluation: Track, analyse, and report on the effectiveness and business impact of learning initiatives. Use data and feedback to continuously refine and improve learning solutions.
- Champion innovation and the effective use of AI and emerging technologies: Leverage AI and other emerging technologies to enhance the design, development, and delivery of learning solutions. Champion innovation by identifying and implementing new tools, platforms, and methodologies that improve learner engagement, efficiency, and impact. Act as a change agent within the team and organisation by promoting a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation, and future-focused thinking.
- Quality assurance and best practice implementation: Uphold best practices in adult learning, learning design methodologies (e.g., 6Ds, ADDIE), and performance consulting. Ensure learning content and facilitation consistently meet high-quality standards and compliance requirements.

Qualification And Experience
Minimum qualifications:
- A relevant qualification in Human Resources, Education, Psychology, Organisational Development, Learning and Development, or related field.
- Formal training or certification in Instructional Design, Facilitation Adult Learning, or Learning & Development methodologies (e.g., 6Ds, ADDIE).
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Learning and Development, Organisational Psychology, or related field.
- Accreditation in coaching is advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum of 5–7 years' experience in a Learning and Development Specialist role.
- Proven track record of designing, developing and delivering leadership development and soft skills programmes across various levels in a large organisation.
- Proven track record in consulting with stakeholders and conducting learning needs analysis.
- Extensive experience designing, developing, and facilitating learning solutions across multiple formats (in-person, virtual, and digital).
- Strong experience in managing end-to-end learning or capability-building projects, including measurement of impact.
- Demonstrated success in contributing to strategic L&D initiatives within a complex business environment.
- Experience in working with or within financial services is advantageous.
- Experience using AI-driven tools to design and deliver learning experiences is strongly preferred.
