Purpose of the job
As a Lead Engineer, you'll be the technical backbone of your squad (of around 5-7 engineers) - leading from the front, writing code daily, and setting the standard for high-quality engineering. You'll work side by side with an Engineering Manager, ensuring your squad is delivering scalable, well-architected software, while collaborating closely with a Product Manager to build and launch new products and services as a partnership.
This is a hands-on role, with a strong focus on designing, coding, and problem-solving. You'll be the most experienced engineer in the squad, responsible for refining technical requirements, making key architectural decisions, and mentoring engineers to help them grow.

This is a hands-on role suited for a detail-oriented, collaborative engineer with a passion for testing secure, scalable, and user-focused applications.
Responsibilities include:
- Designing and executing end-to-end test strategies for web applications and APIs
- Leading frontend testing efforts with , Playwright, JEST, and accessibility tools like Axe
- Performing API testing using Postman and Swagger with JSON validation; automating tests and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and YAML
- Validating performance using K6 or Gatling; and ensuring secure user authentication and session handling using OAuth, SSO, MFA, and RBAC.
You'll collaborate with stakeholders, the wider business and consultants and apply knowledge of best practices and standards to the whole of the business. You'll also champion QA best practices in Agile sprints and work across teams to uphold high standards of UI/UX, security, and reliability.
Essential skills include: experience with IDAM platforms (e.g., Azure AD, ForgeRock, Okta), strong knowledge of OAuth, SSO, MFA, and RBAC; frontend testing using , Playwright, JEST, and Axe; performance testing with K6 or Gatling; API testing with Postman and Swagger; CI/CD integration with Azure DevOps and YAML; basic understanding of Terraform and Azure platform services; and solid Agile QA practices including test planning and sprint-based delivery. Manage Engineers, Technologists, Technicians and site staff throughout the planning, design, tender, implementation and close out stages of various water and sanitation projects.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in civil engineering or related field will be advantageous.
• At least 10 years' experience (postgraduate) in the consulting engineering industry.
• Administrative and human resource management experience.
• Extensive experience in the use of NEC, FIDIC, JBCC and GCC contracts.
• Design, project management and client liaison of bulk water and sanitation infrastructure.
• Design of water and wastewater treatment plants including reclamation and reuse will be advantageous.
