Architecture

  • Leverage a deep understanding of organizational strategy to identify, design, and deliver scalable, testable, and reusable technology solutions.
  • Collaborate with delivery teams to analyze customer requirements and business capabilities to accurately specify complex problems and design solutions.

  • Technical Leadership & Guidance: Provide senior technical guidance to implementation teams, ensuring adherence to best practices, high-quality code, and scalable solutions.

  • Technical Estimation & Scoping: Develop accurate and detailed proposal documents of varying complexity along with the requisite accurate effort estimations for technical delivery.

  • Documentation & Visualization: Create clear, comprehensive, and high-quality architectural diagrams, technical specifications, and discovery workshop documentation. Develop consistency within this arena to streamline service offerings and provide an exceptional client experience.

  • Technology Evaluation & Recommendation: Research, evaluate, and recommend cutting-edge data technologies and tools to enhance our service offerings and client solutions.

  • Quality Assurance: Champion a culture of high-quality technical delivery to ensure robust and maintainable data solutions.

  • Innovation: Actively seek out-of-the-box solutions and creative approaches to complex data challenges, fostering a forward-thinking technical environment.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of hands-on experience in data architecture

  • 5 – 8 years solid experience in data and analytics, data modelling, data engineering, reporting, data management and data governance

  • Proven consulting experience of between 2 – 4 years delivering commercial proposals covering simple through to complex client requirements and project sizes

  • A strong portfolio of successfully delivered enterprise-level data solutions.

Technical Acumen:

  • Deep expertise in Data Warehousing (Kimball Methodology) and Data Lake (Medallion Architecture) principles and implementation.

  • Extensive practical experience with Azure data services and Microsoft Fabric .

  • Proficiency in designing and implementing complex data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.

The role of the Lead Data Architect is to expand the institution's responsible use of data as a strategic enabler by strategically designing, developing, and implementing data principles, models, patterns and best practices for each value stream aligned to the institutional strategy and goals. These principles, models, patterns and best practices will be designed at the various architecture layers of the ICT Architecture.

For the ICT Architecture Practice, the Lead Data Architect will be involved in maturing the architecture practice community and framework (purpose, standards and resources) to ensure the practice remains relevant, adapts to demand timeously, and is seen as a strategic capability for the University.

Duties/Pligte

Establishing data architecture framework, standards and practice

  • Developing and delivering short and long-term strategic goals for data architecture (across all the layers and domains) vision and standards aligned to the institutional and individual responsibility centre goals.
  • Ensuring that data strategies and architectures (including management, tools and standards) comply to internal governance and regulatory requirements, and are promoted within the University.


Facilitating implementation of data architecture framework, standards and practice

  • Conducting data capacity planning, life cycle, duration, usage requirements, and feasibility studies.
  • Creating short-term tactical solutions (aligned to the practice, Division, business owner, or University) for data architecture to achieve long-term objectives and an overall data management roadmap.
  • Overseeing the mapping (current and target) of data sources, data movement, interfaces, and analytics, with the goal of ensuring data quality and opportunities of reuse, migration and/or refinement.
  • Leading brainstorming sessions to develop potential data architecture solutions for business and/or institutional needs, gaps, requirements, or strategic initiatives.


Analysis and reporting

  • Analysing and reporting on the data architecture industry and technology trends by supplying guidance on how it will impact the institutional opportunities as well as risks.


Collaborating with institutional stakeholders

  • Engaging with stakeholders through clear communication, appropriate levels of context and explanation.
  • Collaborating across the University (including, but not limited to, projects and initiatives) by assisting with data-related deliverables, problems regarding integration, compatibility, and multiple-platform integration.


Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a relevant field.
  • At least five years' or more work experience in data architecture with the appropriate certifications and experience in developing reference architectures, principles, and standards, OR at least ten years' or more work experience as a data analyst with experience in reference architectures, principles, and standards.
  • More than five years' experience in leading teams.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and collaboration skills to coordinate projects and deliverables across IT and business.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design, build and deploy payment services projects as per the roadmap of our business units;
  • Deliver the most recognized payment methods in each market & innovative payment methods working closely with technology providers;

  • Engage and collaborate with technical stakeholders (Architecture, Security, Infrastructure) to get the solution design approved and in line with IT strategy.
  • When applicable, assist the development manager in the coordination of development activities to get a solution in line with technical design documentation.
  • Provide appropriate documentation and coaching to the project team and provide assistance during installation / deployment phase.
  • Ensure efficient knowledge transfer and ramp up time for new on- and off-shore developers.
  • Industrialization is integrated in the design of the solution when possible to be easily rolled out in other context without major developments;
  • Work to assure Online and Offline international payment acceptance for all brands and markets;
  • Use continuous improvement methodologies to grow revenue, reduce costs and mitigate risk;
  • Work to mitigate risk when it comes to payments acceptance. Assure PCI and ISO principles. Work with Fraud / Risk business teams and prepare plans for data breach response plans and DRP related to payments acceptance.
  • Advocate the adoption of “best practices” to ensure standardization across the organization in processes and solutions and collaborate with cross functional business units and other functional teams to drive end-to-end process consistency, maturity & effectiveness.
Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

A Degree in Business Science, Engineering, Computer Science and/or IT. Preference would be given to a candidate certified in TOGAF or a similar Framework.

Work Experience

The Candidate needs to have:

  • 5 years + experience in Payment Solution/End-to-End Architecture (ideally in the South African Banking industry.)

Technology Evaluation & Recommendation: Research, evaluate, and recommend cutting-edge data technologies and tools to enhance our service offerings and client solutions. Quality Assurance: Champion a culture of high-quality technical delivery to ensure robust and maintainable data solutions. Innovation: Actively seek out-of-the-box solutions and creative approaches to complex data challenges, fostering a forward-thinking technical environment. Meaningful Client Engagements: Engage with clients and build meaningful relationships to support the sales process as well as successfully eliciting requirements for varying requirements based on client needs. Strategic Vision: Capacity to consult with clients at a strategic level to develop an enterprise roadmap whilst incorporating technical architecture to support varying outcomes. Experience: Minimum of 3 - 5 years of hands-on experience in data architecture 5 – 8 years solid experience in data and analytics, data modelling, data engineering, reporting, data management and data governance Proven consulting experience of between 2 – 4 years delivering commercial proposals covering simple through to complex client requirements and project sizes A strong portfolio of successfully delivered enterprise-level data solutions. Technical Acumen: Deep expertise in Data Warehousing (Kimball Methodology) and Data Lake (Medallion Architecture) principles and implementation. Extensive practical experience with Azure data services and Microsoft Fabric . Proficiency in designing and implementing complex data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes. Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance best practices. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional analytical skills with a proven ability to think creatively and solve complex technical problems.
