The IIE's Varsity College, Waterfall Campus, has a vacancy for a Lecturer: Law (Public Law).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Lecturing

• Lecture on programmes (must lecture on an IIE qualification) across various modes of delivery where relevant
• Marking of assessments and feedback to students in subjects lectured. May be required to internally moderate assessment scripts that fall within their subject fields, where necessary across IIE sites of delivery

Lecturer Development and Support

• Assist in lecturer development and support processes and procedures. This may include conducting peer reviews, facilitating workshops and one-on-one consultations

Student Development & Support

• Championing/leading and managing academic development and support for a specific programme and its students
• Tracking student success and implementing support interventions where required

Research & Scholarship

• The incumbent is required to promote a culture of scholarship within their practice, discipline and campus/team and is also required to contribute towards The IIE’s Varsity College achieving its annual research output targets

Competencies Required:

• Superior communication (written and verbal) and organisational skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage work and self proactively
• Able to demonstrate a proven track record of effective teaching in subject area based on a reflective practice
• Able to demonstrate the ability to manage relationships with managers and staff effectively in terms of motivation, quality and performance
• Passion for Customer Service
• Experience in the use of technology to enhance learning is an added advantage
• Must display team work skills

Minimum Education Requirements:

• Minimum of aLLM
• Preferably an admitted attorney/advocate or in possession of any relevant legal professional title

• Minimum of 2 to 3 years of lecturing experience (on law qualifications)
• Minimum of 3 years industry experience

Job Purpose:

To teach/lecture an agreed number of hours based on module Specialisation requirements. To engage and prepare students for assessments by tracking module pacers, identifying and supporting at-risk students, managing general student administrative support, and developing assessments by engaging with the Central Academic Team. Assisting the Programme Coordinator in tracking and analysing academic results to evaluate the performance of the module and to identify “at-risk modules.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Deliver lectures and engage students based on module-specific requirements in line with module pacers.
• Manage resources including academic materials and consulting with the Information Centre
• Update learning management system and provide feedback to students.
• Engage and prepare students for assessments, identify at risk students, and develop assessments in accordance with Central Academic Team briefings.
• Monitor student engagement as well as assessment submission with relevant escalation.
• Attend and participate in academic meetings across all faculties.
• Reflect on, review, and analyse student module result.
• Support the monitoring of at-risk student in modules assigned to lecture.
• Academic Professional Development: complete a set number of academic professional development interventions per academic cycle (one year) that contribute to the improvement of the Brand’s Teaching-Learning practice and personal professional academic status.

Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications –

• LLB (Admitted Attorney); BCom Law Degree or BA Law Degree
• Qualification in Education (PGCE or equivalent) or Training and Development an added advantage.
• Flair for online lecturing and learning management systems (LMSs) required.

Experience –

• 1-3 years of working knowledge and industry experience in Law or a related field and lecturing/tutoring experience.

Our client is seeking a skilled and compassionate Attorney to join their boutique law firm, focusing on Family Law and Estate Law. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in both practice areas, excellent interpersonal skills and a strong commitment to delivering personalised legal services to the firms clients. They should also be someone who can hit the ground running and is motivated to build a long-term career in legal practice.

Key Responsibilities will include:

• Representing clients in divorce, child custody, maintenance and/or domestic violence matters
• Drafting legal documents, including parenting plans, settlement agreements and/or protection orders
• Attending court hearings, mediations and/or settlement conferences
• Advising clients on legal rights, obligations and/or potential outcomes
• Negotiating and mediating family disputes with sensitivity and professionalism

• Consulting with clients to understand estate planning needs
• Drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney and/or healthcare directives
• Advising on tax implications and/or asset protection strategies

Qualifications

Skills

The successful candidate will have:

• 3+ years of experience in family and/or estate law
• Strong drafting, negotiation and litigation skills
• Ability to manage emotionally sensitive cases with discretion

• Proficiency in legal research and case management software
• Experience working in a boutique or client-focused firm
• Mediation or collaborative law training
• Familiarity with South African estate and family law statutes

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Full Bookkeeping to Trial Balance functions for law firm (Reconciliations, Creditors, Debtors etc.)

Salary: R20 000 – R25 000 gross maximum per month.

• LLB and admission as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa
• 4-5 years' post-admission experience in Labour, Commercial Law/Corporate Law and Public Governance Matters
• Experience working with Labour Disputes. Disciplinary Hearings, CCMA/Bargaining Council and Labour Court matters
• Experience in Drafting and Reviewing Commercial Contracts, Corporate Governance Documents
• Right of Appearance in the High Court
• In good standing with the LPC
