Role Overview
The Laboratory Technician is primarily responsible for safe handling, testing, analysis of waste samples to ensure they are aligned with the correct waste type specific for Landfill disposal and Effluent Treatment Plant.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Sample Receipt
- Receive and log test samples
- Handle and prepare test samples in accordance with documented instructions
Conduct Tests
- Perform analysis according to procedures and test methods in order to produce reliable and precise data to assist with waste classification
- Capture
analytical results on lims - Maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment: gcms; bomb calorimeter; xrf; ph meters; scales; moisture analyser; ec meters
- Perform instrument troubleshooting when required
- Following and ensuring safety procedures and safety procedures and safety checks
- Maintain and calibrate equipment as necessary
- Maintain and manage a clean and well-arranged work environment
- Keeping laboratory supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, verifying receipt
- Record information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books
- Handle analytical reports and queries
- Validate test method as per ISO17025:2017 and TR26 document
- Ensure quality and validity of results as per documented procedures
- Performs document quality check in accordance with company laboratory practice
- Performs file backup to ensure proper storage and archiving of electronic registers
Maintain the Management System
- Comply with documented management system policies and procedures
- Identify opportunities to improve the management system of the laboratory
- Identify non-conformances and/or deviations from the management system and from procedures for the performance of laboratory activities
- Assist in the investigation of identified non-conformances, establish the root cause and implement required corrective actions
- Ensure good housekeeping in all test areas

- Experience in manufacturing environment with quality laboratory systems within automotive industry.
- Must be able to use a measuring equipment, i.e., Microscope for weld pens and IMTE for measuring and testing, CMM for scanning of parts accuracy
- Must have ability to read and interpret customer drawings, understand customer specifications.
- Ability to compile test reports that meet the company and Customer specific reports to ensure our parts are passed, approved and accepted by our customers.
- Liaise with external suppliers regarding calibration of test and measuring equipment and maintain calibration register / schedule.
- To ensure that all gauges/measuring equipment are accounted for and calibrated as per the Gauge Pack System. This includes decommissioning of all obsolete gauges/ measuring equipment.
- To ensure that all gauges/measuring equipment is stored according to the company SOP /IATF 16949 requirements.

- To ensure all Checking fixtures/gauges are maintained accordingly, this includes cleaning and replacing missing items.
- Champions the inspection and testing of the products/services being procured and controlling laboratory consumables Sodium persulfate, sodium chloride, blades, discs, grinders, drills, stones, grease, oil, brake fluid, IMTE, etc
- Monthly report Product audits, Calibration status, functional testing, weld pen status
- Maintain customer KPI regarding QPR, PPM, SSN, Downtime & Warranty.
- Actively involved in a monthly stock take.
- Metal pressing / Welding /Metal finishing / Coating /Moulding /Trim / Assemblies experience
- Support with Quality training regarding inspection sheets, CF WI and quality alert.
- Issue audit report to the supplier and follow up regarding any open items from the audit.
- Deliver Project Quality documentation as per milestones.
- Actively involved in SPTTs (Supplier Parts Tracking Team).
- Support SQT and external / internal suppliers to ensure product quality is achieved prior to delivery according to APQP / Customer requirements / VDA6.3 / IATF16949
- Support supplier quality issues and ensure the effective implementation of corresponding quality control measures.
- Support internal process & system audit and issue reports.
Job Requirements:
- Grade 12 is compulsory
