You will be responsible for identifying high-impact opportunities for Artificial Intelligence across the organisation and driving real-world implementation through collaboration with third-party experts and internal coordination. DUTIES:
Identify High-Value Use Cases -
- Walk the floor, engage teams, and map workflows to determine where AI can unlock productivity, business insights, or automation and competitive advantages.
- Develop a wide and deep understanding of industry and business trends, identify and translate opportunities and challenges into structured problem and solutions statements.
- Use your understanding of physical processes, constraints, and technology to assess viability.
Build the Business Case
- Prioritize opportunities based on business impact, effort, and speed to value.
- Develop clear, ROI-driven business cases that align with operational goals.
- Present and communicate these opportunities to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Engage the Right Expertise -
- Scout, evaluate, and collaborate with third-party AI vendors, domain experts, and technology providers.
- Serve as the internal Project Lead translating business needs to external providers and ensuring delivery stays aligned with outcomes.
- You dont build the tech you guide the vision, manage the outcomes, and ensure it solves the right problem.
Lead Implementation & Change -
- Coordinate implementation efforts across business units and external partners.
- Define success metrics, monitor progress, and remove roadblocks to execution.
- Develop and lead training efforts to build awareness and capability around the new tools or workflows.
Promote Innovation Across the Organization
- Champion a practical understanding of AI what it is, what it isnt, and where it can help.
- Host workshops, lead internal demonstrations, and empower teams to think differently.

REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications
- Masters or Bachelors Degree in Business, Engineering, Innovation, Operations, or a related field.
Experience/Skills
- 5+ Years of experience in Operations, Product Development, Innovation, Continuous Improvement, or Business Transformation.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage external technology partners.
- Fluent in English, with exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, capable of engaging confidently across technical and executive audiences.

The Experian Innovation and Strategy team in South Africa spearheads adjacent and unchartered innovation. A key component of this function is fulfilled by the Research and Development (R&D) team. Innovation through data is core to Experian South Africa’s (EZA) strategic objective.
The Head: R&D will be accountable for the identification, assessment and recommendation on potential use cases associated with Alternative data sources. As such, this role will also be responsible for identifying opportunities for Experian to either develop new or expand on existing product offerings. This role will also be supporting and advising other teams within Experian to assess the feasibility and create first conceptual designs for new products.
This role requires particularly strong collaboration traits and a keen understanding of what current market offerings and needs entail. The Head: R&D should be a keen learner, insatiably curious and an instigator of high performance.
Responsibility for adherence to associated Compliance, Risk, Data Governance and Legal processes also rest on this role.
DATA RESEARCH and DEVELOPMENT
- Identify alternative data sources from what is currently leveraged in the business
- Identify new types of data (net new ) that could be of value to the business, our clients or consumers
- Facilitate and participate in obtaining samples of such data
- Guide your team on analysing/investigating the data to assess suitability for new or enhanced products
- Decide on and communicate outcomes of assessment of data to business
- Facilitate and participate in the building of initial viable products (if applicable)
DATA ENGAGEMENT
- Engage with executive stakeholders in the business re. data opportunities and findings from research
- Present ideas and viable products at various stages to clients to test market appetite and product applicability
- Initiate and pursue engagement with potential suppliers of data and inform/support commercial conversations that may apply
DATA RIGHT-TO-PLAY
- Ensure adherence to processes prescribed by the Experian Governance, Legal, Compliance and Risk processes
CROSS-TEAM COLLABORATION
- Stay abreast of existing Experian product offerings (both locally and in other markets)
- Identify potential future new product owners and engage them in the product development process at the right time, to facilitate effective handover to business
- Effective and solution focused engagements with Experian colleagues both locally and in other markets
DATA THOUGHT LEADERSHIP
- The CDI (Consumer Default Index) and BDI (Business Debt Index) are two quarterly publications that inform press releases and media engagement. You are responsible for ensuring that these products are maintained and delivered timeously
- The CDI and BDI are often enriched/expanded at an ad hoc basis as a means to test new ideas or to create thought leadership insights that can be shared in the market. This enhancement is performed by the R&D team.
- Present on latest developments in market and at Experian in various forums (Conferences, Summits, Webinars, etc.)
- Ensure that Experian is perceived in the market as a thought leader and industry expert
INNOVATION R&D TEAM MANAGEMENT
- Cultivate and maintain a high-performance Innovation R&D team in a remote working environment
- Develop and mentor more junior team members
- Perform team managerial duties
MINIMAL VIABLE PRODUCT (MVP) DEVELOPMENT AND MARKET TESTING
- Leverage existing and new data assets to develop and test new MVPs with relevant partners
- Deliver successful MVP to relevant business owners empowering them to scale solutions post-handover

Nedbank is seeking a practical, forward-thinking ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance ) Risk Led to head our ESG Risk Lead Team within Group Strategic Risk. This is not a sustainability generalist role — it is a strategic, risk-focused leadership position for a candidate with deep expertise in ESG risk methodologies, global regulatory frameworks, and forward-looking risk integration.
You will lead the development and application of cutting-edge ESG risk tools, frameworks, and scenario analyses that shape Nedbank’s enterprise-wide risk posture. Your work will directly influence how ESG risks are embedded into credit, market, operational, and liquidity risk management frameworks — ensuring Nedbank remains the green leader in South African banking.
This role is ideal for a candidate who thrives at the intersection of technical ESG risk innovation, financial risk integration, and strategic influence. You will work closely with our ESG Risk Management team in ESG Risk to co-drive research, foresight, and practical implementation of ESG risk across the bank.
Job Responsibilities
• Lead Nedbank’s ESG Risk Lead Team, managing a team of environmental analysts focused on research, innovation, and global best practice.
• Drive the development and implementation of advanced ESG risk methodologies (e.g. climate risk materiality assessments, nature risk assessments, scenario analysis, glidepaths etc).
• Translate global frameworks (e.g. TCFD, TNFD, ISSB, NGFS, PACTA) into practical, bank-wide risk tools and disclosures.
• Partner with the ESG Risk Management team to co-develop forward-looking risk identification and integration across all risk types.
• Co-act with the Risk Team as Nedbank’s internal center of excellence for ESG risk — providing thought leadership, training, and strategic advisory to business units, risk committees, and executive leadership.
• Monitor global ESG risk trends and regulatory developments to ensure Nedbank remains ahead of the curve.
• Represent Nedbank in industry forums (e.g. BASA, UNEP FI) and with external stakeholders (e.g. SARB, rating agencies, investors).
• Publish internal and external ESG risk research to reinforce Nedbank’s leadership position.
• Honours or Master’s degree in Risk Management, Environmental Science, Finance, Engineering, or related field.
Preferred Certifications
• Professional risk qualification (e.g. GARP SCR, CFA ESG, PRM)
Minimum Experience Level
• Minimum 5–7 years in ESG risk, environmental risk, enterprise risk, or financial risk roles.
• Experience in banking or financial services is essential.
• Familiarity with digital tools, data analytics, and ESG risk systems is advantageous.
Types of Exposures
• Proven track record in ESG risk leadership, ideally within a financial institution or regulatory body.
• Deep understanding of financial risk types and how ESG risks intersect with them.
• Experience leading climate and nature risk assessments, including methodology design and implementation.
• Strong grasp of global ESG risk frameworks and disclosure standards (TCFD, TNFD, ISSB, NGFS, Basel, UNEP FI).
• Strategic thinker with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive enterprise-wide change.
• Skilled in translating complex technical concepts into actionable insights for diverse audiences.
• Experience managing high-performing teams and mentoring technical talent.

The Digital Solution Architect will be responsible for leading and defining the necessary architecture and infrastructure for validating and scaling digital innovation projects. From feasibility assessments to solution scoping, conceptual design, and delivery you will be the driving force of the architecture delivery and technical product roadmap used in the innovation process. You will work closely with a variety of stakeholders throughout the organization and ensure solution conformance of scaled solutions to our operational architecture principles and customer needs.
The Digital Solution Architect embraces lean and agile practices, and works with cross-functional, and distributed teams. Working in close collaboration with others, you will actively collaborate to build and release new software at speed.
- Analyze the technology environment internally and externally and define strategic opportunities.
- Analyze, document and plan enterprise integration of services.
- Responsibile for the innovation “sandbox” architecture and its integration to operational IT.
- Subject matter expert and responsible for the solution- and enterprise- architecture, process, and frameworks used to develop digital innovation services and products.
- Architecture responsibility include but is not limited to process, security, integration, data, infrastructure, cloud and mobile.
- Lead and mentor technical resource on the use and application of architecture for digital services.
- Lead the planning, definition, and high-level design of the target architecture as well as compare and explore competing alternatives.
- Define systems and their interfaces, allocate responsibilities to subsystems, understand solution deployment, and communicate requirements for interactions within the solution context.
- Work with customers, stakeholders, and suppliers to establish high-level Solution Intent and its information models and documentation.
- Elicit and validate critical NFRs at the solution level, participate in the definition of other requirements at the project and technical levels.
- Produce solutions using complex architectures based on advanced or emerging design patterns.
- Interact with client's IT, internal IT, and business teams to address technical dependencies in the deployment of solutions.
- Resolve technical issues and identify solutions by building consensus among technical stakeholders.
- Participate in all aspects of agile software development including design, development, implementation, test, and deployment.
- Ensure application performance, uptime, and scale, maintaining high standards of code quality and thoughtful application design.
- Can write, modify and debug web applications in multiple tech stacks and domains.
- Self-document development processes, conduct peer reviews, and give actionable feedback.
- Work with the company validation- and agile development methodologies, adhering to best practices and pursuing continuous improvement.
- Actively contribute to the squad rituals such as planning meetings, stand-ups, and retrospect's.
Degree or higher in computer science.
Additional Information- 10+ years of experience in relevant IT domains.
- 4+ years of experience as a digital Solution/System/Domain Architect.
- Hands-on experience in designing enterprise-grade architectures.
- Good experience in software architecture from an overall platform perspective as well as in depth knowledge with architecture solutions such as serverless, event-driven and microservices.
- Experience with cloud-, infrastructure-, mobile-, integration-, data-, security- and process architecture.
- Experience with cloud-native solutions or container technologies.
- Thorough knowledge of multiple frontend and backend technologies applied in multiple industries.
- Proven knowledge and experience working in an agile development (XP, Kanban, Scrum) environment with remote teams utilizing principles of agile development with continuous integration and deployment, test-driven development, and pair programming.
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Fluent in English. Other languages are a benefit.
