Job Purpose:
The IR Officer will provide a broad range of professional employee relations activities, employee consulting, training, conflict resolution, complaint investigation, policy interpretation & preparing & delivering related summary reports & recommendations. The IR Officer will manage & control all disciplinary issues up to the hearings & outcomes.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Handling complaints, managing grievance procedures & facilitating counselling in conjunction with all stakeholders.
- Manage grievances and grievance procedures timeously & ensure management is up to date
- Work with HR & the departental managers concerning disciplinary actions required, including preparation of documents, investigation of any offence, scheduling hearings & attendance of hearings
- Advice on workman's compensation claims, compilation & submission of documentation
- Managing relationships with unions & ensuring that the company's treatment of employees is consistent with its core business values & objectives
- Ensure continuous revision, internal training & updates are provided on various IR, ER & recent case law and that this is conducted regularly across all levels of staff and where necessary coordinate external training on relevant matters
- Assist in the organisation and induction of new staff on the code of conduct, HR & IR protocols & operating procedures during orientation
- Investigating & resolving complex or critical industrial relations issues promptly & effectively
- Participating in &/or leading projects focused on continuous improvement
- Continually analyse & develop operating procedures as it relates to IR
- Manage operational performance of the Employee Relations services within the HR department
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric

Key Responsibilities:
Industrial Relations Management:
- Handle all disciplinary, grievance, and incapacity cases in line with company procedures and the Labour Relations Act (LRA).
- Guide line managers and supervisors through correct IR processes to ensure fairness and consistency across all depots and operational sites.
- Represent the company at CCMA and Bargaining Council hearings.
- Prepare case files, evidence bundles, and witness statements for hearings and arbitrations.
- Identify IR risks and trends and recommend proactive solutions to management.
Compliance & Policy Administration:
- Ensure company policies and procedures comply with South African labour laws (LRA, BCEA, EEA, OHSA).
- Maintain accurate IR records (warnings, hearings, outcomes, grievances, and union engagements).
- Assist in reviewing and updating IR-related policies, contracts, and employee codes of conduct.
Union & Employee Engagement:
- Build and maintain sound relationships with trade unions, shop stewards, and employee representatives across all depots.

- Support management in maintaining a stable and positive labour climate, particularly in shift and transport operations.
Training & Support:
- Train supervisors and operational managers on IR processes, company policies, and fair disciplinary practices.

Reporting & Administration:

- In-depth knowledge of LRA, BCEA, EEA, OHSA, and CCMA processes.
- Proven experience in managing CCMA cases and union engagement.
- Understanding of transport operations, shift work, and depot environments is advantageous.

Qualifications
- Applicable Tertiary Qualification in Human Resources, Organisational/Industrial Psychology or People Management.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in the same or similar position.
Required Skills
- Familiar with all legislature and amendments with regards to Human Resources (LRA, BCEA, EEA, SDA, OHSA, COIDA).
- Familiarity with Sectoral Determination 6 and 14 advantageous.
