Occupational health and safety

  • Comply to all Health and Safety regulations, procedures, o=policies, standard operating procedures and other maintenance standard at all times
  • Comply to all operational/ maintenance standard operating procedures at all times

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for, including but not limited to, preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance, planned maintenance, servicing, refurbishing, installation activities on all mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation related equipment and civil maintenance related tasks on buildings/ facilities and sites.

Key veriables

Maintanance

  • Implement, maintain and ensure adherence to preventative maintenance program for plant equipment, machinery and other related facilities
  • Perform analyses on equipment maintenance needs from a preventative, breakdown, servicing and refurbishment perspective
  • Perform root cause analyses on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, and other equipment/ spares/ consumables related failures
  • Order and maintain stock levels on consumables/ spares/ equipment and other parts used in the plant equipment to minimize downtime by ensuring replacement spares/ equipment is available

  • Maintain, repair, refurbish and service plant equipment/ spares including but not limited to pumps, motors, cables, compressors, belt press, valves, drive unites, chemical feeders, pneumatic equipment, hydraulic systems, gearboxes, motors, etc.
  • Install plant equipment including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic instrumentation, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records on preventative/ breakdown/ planned/ unplanned maintenance activities and utilise as input into stock maintenance system
  • Adhere to OHSA regulations and requirements with regards to safe work practices/ procedures including but not limited to confined space/ pressure vessels/ switching gears/ working at heights/ isolation of equipment and other regulations as required
  • Make recommendations and actively participate in making modifications/ improvement initiatives for equipment to ensure optimum productivity, efficiency and utilisation or equipment
  • Install/ change/ fix water/ steam/ air/ hydraulics/ pneumatic pipelines, valves, and other mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Compile/ interpret drawings, blueprints, schedules, schematics and diagrams for a variety of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation related tasks as and when required
  • Perform various riggings/ slinging tasks related to the installation/ removal/ replacement or equipment including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation related equipment.

Breakdown Maintenance

  • Perform root cause analysis to identify the root causes of breakdowns/ failures and take corrective action to fix equipment/ parts to ensure that equipment is up and running as quickly as possible and put preventative measures in place to eliminate/ mitigate future breakdowns of the same nature
  • Develop, implement and maintain a breakdown maintenance tracking/ recording system, analyse data and make recommendations with regards to preventing/ eliminating breakdowns
  • Repair/ replace mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, electrical equipment/ equipment parts as per relevant standard operating procedures, safety rules and regulation and equipment/ supplier requirements
  • Perform ore-start checks, start-up, set-up, shutdown, isolation, safeguarding, and other procedures relating to the maintenance of machines/ equipment as per relevant standard procedures, practices, policies
  • Record breakdowns and problems with the equipment/ machinery/ parts and update relevant maintenance record systems
  • Adhere to OHSA regulations and requirements with regards to safe work practices/ procedures including but not limited to confined space/ pressure vessels/ switching gears/ working at heights/ isolation of equipment and other regulations as required

Preventative Maintenance

  • Plan and schedule daily assigned work orders/ job cards and prepare relevant materials/ equipment/ tools/ consumables to perform relevant jobs/ tasks
  • Assist in the development/ implementation of planned preventative maintenance schedules
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks on equipment including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, electrical, etc. equipment
  • Take appropriate actions to prevent equipment breakdowns including but not limited to preventative maintenance on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, etc. equipment to eliminate/ mitigate/ minimize equipment breakdowns/ failures
  • Implement and maintain records relating to inspection and monitoring tasks on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, etc. equipment to pro-actively identify potential faults/ problems/ issues, etc.
  • Perform scheduled/ frequent checks/ inspections/ tests on mechanical, electrical/ pneumatic/ hydraulic/ instrumentation, electrical, etc. equipment to identify potentially/ existing defects
  • Identify/ implement equipment/ process for improvement s and cost reduction initiatives to ensure optimal production effectiveness/ cost effectiveness/ efficiencies/ equipment availability and equipment utilisation
  • Perform any other tasks related to the furthering of business interests tasks/ activities/duties delegated to you
  • Identify/ maintain optimum availability of consumables/ spares/ equipment and communicate to the relevant store person and ensure critical spares and other consumable stock holding is sufficient
  • Perform all first line preventative maintenance tasks on the mechanical, electrical. Hydraulic, instrumentation, welding or machining

Planned and maintenance

  • Develop, implement and execute planned maintenance activities/ tasks with regards to routine maintenance, servicing and refurbishing of equipment mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, electrical, etc. equipment
  • Prioritise planned maintenance activities to ensure minimum disruption to production processes and optimal equipment utilisation and availability
  • Compile project plans/ schedules with regards to the servicing/ refurbishments/ planned replacement of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, instrumentation, electrical, etc. equipment
  • Develop, implement and maintain a planned maintenance tracking/ recording system, analyse data and make recommendations with regards to frequency of servicing/ planned replacement/ refurbishment of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, electrical, electrical, etc. equipment
  • Routine maintenance tasks related to cleaning, inspections, preventative maintenance, planned maintenance schedule and first line maintenance in equipment/ buildings/ facilities
  • Assign and ensure completion of planned general maintenance tasks such ass painting, welding, soldering, repairing, lubricating, cleaning, etc. and monitor quality of completion of tasks
  • Ensure that planned maintenance activities are budgeted for and planned maintenance activities are conducted with the budgetary constrains and in line with overall maintenance plan
  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance to relevant legislation e.g. certificated of compliance, firefighting system, electrical installations, etc.
  • Monitoring, maintenance and testing of alarm systems, smoke detectors, firefighting systems, air conditioners, etc.

Management of staff

  • Grievances when raised are dealt with effectively within a reasonable time frame
  • Maintenance Labor is planned, allocated and applied in such a manner as to minimize the necessity of casual labor, fixed term contract labor and overtime
