Qualifications:
- BSc Eng/BEng in a relevant civil engineering discipline complemented by a relevant postgraduate qualification
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng.) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)
- At least 10 years postgraduate experience in civil engineering

Duties & ResponsibilitiesHydrology:
The candidate will be required to carry out hydrological analyses focused mainly on, but not limited to:
- Acquisition and processing of hydrological data (rainfall, runoff, evaporation).
- Hydrological parameters (eg, MAP, MAE, MAR).
- Catchment delineation.
- Surface water runoff calculations (eg. MAR, seasonal and dry weather flows, etc.) for site-specific catchment areas.
- Flood peak runoff calculations (applying industry acceptable deterministic, statistical, empirical and dynamic modelling methods).

WSP has a new full-time opportunity within our Water Use and Resource Management team for a Principal Hydrologist or Water Resources Engineer, based in Midrand. You will be supporting and contributing on hydrological projects such as storm water management, hydrology studies/modelling, river design, water intakes, water quality modelling, climate assessment and modelling and water management plans.
Qualifications- Bachelor of Science in Hydrology, preferably with an Honours degree (Masters highly advantageous), including 5+ years’ working experience in a similar field, and experience in the field of Environmental Engineering related to surface water is required OR
- Bachelor of Science in Civil/Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with exposure to environmental water related engineering
- Membership of professional industry bodies (Pr.Sci.Nat, Pr Eng) or similar
- Extensive experience in project management on a wide range of projects – a project management qualification would be advantageous
- In-depth experience of using Pitman, WRSM 2000 PCSWMM, Hec-RAS, Hec-HMS, GoldSim, CAD, ArcGIS, QGIS will be advantageous
- Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel (Advanced), MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS Projects;
- Demonstrated ability in water resources including hydrology, water balance, water supply feasibility, water reuse and some knowledge on the National Water Act.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Developing hydrological models including storm water management modelling, floodline assessment, climate assessment, water quality modelling for mining and industrial clients;
- Catchment Hydrological modelling including rainfall-runoff modelling and yield analysis;
- Undertaking water and salt balances, storm water management planning, flood risk assessment and flood line determination, hydrological impact assessment, water quality analysis and water quality monitoring plan;
- Giving input on water components for EIA’s and mine waste management projects;
- Technical input and understanding into water permitting projects
- Developing high quality project and design technical reports for clients;
- Assessing and analysing vast amounts of data using statistical methodologies.
- Preparing macros on MS Excel for data interpretation, reporting and management;
- Providing leadership by mentoring and developing the broader team;
- Assist with revenue and resource planning for the team;
- Providing technical reviews of proposal, reports and deliverables (QA/QC)
- Preparing proposals, reports and deliverables for senior staff review; and
- Displaying a safety first focus and setting a positive example by identifying and reporting hazards, near misses and incidents.
