    The HR Manager is responsible for providing strategic and operational HR leadership for the mine. This role ensures the effective development and implementation of a HR manning plan, policies, procedures, and initiatives to support the business objectives, drive a high-performance culture, and ensure compliance with all labour, legal, and regulatory requirements within the mining industry. The HR Manager acts as a trusted advisor to management and employees, balancing operational needs with employee relations and well-being.

    Responsibilities

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS (DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES):

    Strategic HR and IR Management

    • Develop and implement the site HR and IR strategy aligned with the mine’s operational goals and corporate HR and IR objectives.
    • Provide input into workforce planning, talent strategies, and succession planning.
    • Act as a key advisor to management on organisational design, change management, and performance improvement initiatives.
    • Advise on strategies related to industrial relations including on site unions, wage negotiation strategies, stakeholder engagement and conflict management.

    Recruitment, Selection & Onboarding

    • Manage the end-to-end recruitment and selection process for site-based positions, ensuring the attraction and retention of high-calibre talent.

    Employee Relations & Engagement

    • Drive employee engagement initiatives to promote a positive and productive workplace culture.

    Performance Management & Talent Development

    Qualifications & Requirements
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology, or related field (essential).

    Experience
    • Minimum 10-15 years’ HR experience in the mining sector, with at least 10 years in a managerial or senior HR role .

    Our client, Owloon Fruit Farm, based in Paarl, is looking for an energetic HR, Payroll and Compliance Manager with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, the ability to work independently, and a focus on effective payroll, personnel and admin management.

    The HR, Payroll and Compliance Manager is responsible for managing all payroll, HR and compliance administration functions within Owloon Agri. The role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with statutory payroll requirements, and effective HR support across the employee lifecycle. Compliance responsibilities are limited to assisting external consultants with audits, inspections, and certification requirements.

    Responsibilities
    • Payroll Management: Full payroll processing and statutory submissions (PAYE, UIF, SDL, COID); Manage SARS submissions (EMP201, EMP501, IRP5s) and UI19/COID returns; Maintain payroll records, reconciliations, reporting, and labour costing (FCS/software).
    • HR Administration: Maintain employee records and HR systems; Support recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and exits; Advise on HR policies, labour law, and employee benefits (including housing/ESTA); Assist with Employment Equity reporting.
    • Compliance: Support audits, inspections, and certifications (GlobalG.A.P., WIETA, SIZA, etc.); Provide payroll/HR documentation for compliance; Assist with Health & Safety recordkeeping.
    Qualifications
    • Relevant qualification in HR, Payroll, or Business Administration;
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in payroll, compliance and HR administration (agriculture sector experience advantageous);
    • Proficiency in SARS eFiling, EasyFile, and payroll systems;
    • Proficiency in Farm Costing Solutions (FCS) and MS Office (Excel essential);
    • Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, COID, ESTA, Employment Equity Act);
    • Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport.

    Note: Commencement date: 1 October or as soon as possible.
