Job Description
As part of this team, you will work with the functional owners who are usually positioned in the Centres of Excellence and People Operations to ensure that all people systems and technologies are leveraged to deliver effective and cost-efficient processes. You will be accountable for the full life cycle of technology products: requirements gathering, vendor selection, solution design and configuration, deployment, sustain, adoption and solution retirement.
Duties & Responsibilities- Priority setting: understand sub-functional strategy, processes and ways of working and align with functional owners on priorities and plans.
- Run a requirements gathering/Joint application development session to gather new requirements.
- Business Case: provide input to functional owners on business cases specifically on the product deliverables.
- Accurately document functional requirements specifications clearly defining project objectives.
- Construct complex process models and create UML models.
- Solution Design: translate functional and business requirements into a technology ideally leveraging the out of the box processes and functionalities of our preferred technology vendors (buy, configure, build). Basic principles: standardisation and simplicity, putting the user at the centre of the process and technology design.
- Solution Configure: provide the IT Services configuration teams with input on configuration and support with relevant testing activities.
- Deployment and delivery: based on the deployment priorities and plans set by the functional owner, work with the regional People Systems and Tech teams on deploying the technology solutions.
- Sustain: work with the IT Services team on solution RUN and maintenance as per IT Services technology operating model. Accountable for potential escalations acting as the single point of contact back to functional owners, IT services and technology providers.
- Architecture: work with the People Systems solution and overall ERP architects to ensure solutions are flawlessly integrated into People Systems and technology landscape and roadmaps and overall ERP architecture and roadmaps/plans.
- Release strategy: ensure releases are reviewed, prioritised and tested in collaboration with functional owners, IT Services (configurations) and strategic vendors and support change management and communication activities where necessary.

Under the general direction of the Assistant Director, Administrative Human Resources Services and working as an integral part of the Human Resources team, the HR Advisor provides a range of human resources services to client departments. These services include recruitment, job evaluation, salary administration, interpretation and application of human resource and payroll policies and practices, the interpretation and application of staff policies and collective agreements, organizational change, and performance management.
The HR Advisor is responsible for full-cycle recruitment, job evaluation of unionized and non-unionized positions; and for providing HR support, advice and guidance to portfolio of assigned client groups. In consultation with the Assistant Director and/or other senior HR staff, the HR Advisor supports organizational change and restructuring processes; participates in grievance processes, contributes to attendance and disability management as a member of a cross-functional team; and participates in special projects as part of the Faculty of Arts & Science Administrative HR Team.
Essential Qualifications:
I. Education:
- University degree or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of (or working towards) Certificate of Human Resources Professional (CHRP).
II. Experience:
- Minimum two to three (2-3) years’ relevant human resources experience, including experience in a combination of the following - recruitment, job evaluation, labour relations, organizational change, attendance management, performance management and salary administration.
- HR experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
III. Skills:
- Excellent client service orientation, interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
- Strong organizational skills along with ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines, demonstrated ability to adjust to changing operational and client needs
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of and apply collective agreements and a wide range of policies, procedures, processes and legislation, and to learn new systems
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated tact, discretion, judgement and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Experience working independently and as part of a team environment.
- Sound knowledge of human resources best practices and employment-related legislation.
- Prior experience applying USW Staff-Appointed, Casual, Don bargaining units collective agreements is an asset

Main purpose / objective of the position :
- The HRM will be drive an HR Business Partnership with stakeholders across the African continent
- Successful incumbent must have proven track record in HR management spanning across Western, Central and Eastern Africa. This is non negotiable
- Ensure that comprehensive Human Resources skills complement and enhance the existing Employee Relations (ER) functions within the business unit.
- The HRM will implement HR strategies aligned with the company’s business goals and will serve as a HR Business Partner to workforce teams in relation to HR-related matters
Responsibilities :
- Drive key HR delivery in relation to talent acquisition, employee development, performance management, compensation and benefits, and employee engagement.
- Drive People Plan within area of responsibility and ensure alignment to business plan / s.
- Ensure a cohesive approach to employee relations and compliance with labour regulations, to ensure a seamless integration of HR functions and to support the overall objectives of the organisation.
- Conduct an organisational assessment to determine the current state of HR-related functions and identify areas for development.
- Implement and maintain HR policies and procedures that align with the company’s vision, mission, and values.
- Work closely with internal business partners to develop a talent pipeline as well as accountable for the overall recruitment process, including job descriptions, talent sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding.
- Implement a performance management system that drives high performance and supports career development.
- Work closely with internal business partners to develop a training and development programme to address current and future skills gaps.
- Implement a compensation strategy that is competitive and fair, aligning with the company’s financial capabilities and strategic objectives.
- Advise and support managers in HR-related decision making and serve as a mediator in resolving workplace conflicts.
- Ensure statutory compliance throughout the HR department and stay updated on changes in relevant legislation.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
Experience and Skills
- Proficiency in English and French is a non-negotiable requirement of this vacancy
- Proven experience as an HR Business Partner or similar role, with experience in setting up an HR department
- Strong understanding of labour laws and disciplinary procedures within various regions in Africa
- Proficient in HR software, e.g. Sage People and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
