To establish and manage a world class CHG Hospital. This role is accountable for the implementation,

management and monitoring of Hospital Operations for the Group, ensuring quality patient care and

management. The incumbent manages a team of specialists and the scope of this role spans across the

Hospital and interfaces with Head Office.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Business or Healthcare).
  • Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) will be an added advantage.
  • 5-7 years within Hospital or Hospitality Management experience.
  • 3 years’ people management experience.

Minimum work experience:

  • Lead strategic direction setting and planning for the non- acute Hospital area in alignment to the

CHG’s vision and mission.

  • Develop the non-acute Hospital’s standards based on global and local best practices to achieve

operational excellence and quality

  • Set goals and standards for the non-acute Hospital to support the business plans.
  • Plan and utilise the available skills and equipment sets for maximum effectiveness and

productivity.

  • Support and guide relevant workstreams (i.e., Nursing, Patient Experience) to achieve

operational success.

  • Drive continuous improvement and identify and manage operational risks.
  • Maintain quality patient care delivery standards through suitably qualified and registered

professionals.

  • Manage communication, service providers, projects (where applicable), budgets, resourcing,

roll-out and change management as relating to non – acute Hospital Operations.

  • Initiate and implement operational activities of the business unit aimed at delivering best patient

experience, best outcomes, with cost efficiency.

  • Ensure compliance to all relevant legislation applicable to Health and Safety.
  • Streamline the non-acute Hospital and drive alignment, collaboration and synergy between the

various stream lead and healthcare professionals to provide healthcare services.

  • Take a strategic view of the value chain to ensure the non – acute Hospital is optimally integrated

and optimised within CHG’s operating context.

  • Support and drive Group initiatives to strengthen funder relations and continuously work towards

designated service provider status with funders.

  • Collaborate with Chief Operations Officer, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Medical Officer in

the recruitment of Clinicians and Allied workers across all Medical disciplines.

  • Enable and support contractors to deliver.
  • Management of the Hospital’s Marketing and Patient Experience Strategy.
  • Co-create functional strategies and lead and manage the disciplines in portfolio.

Effective management of marketing strategy (including growth) by:

  • Developing a marketing strategy for the hospital aligned to LHC business plan and marketing strategy and drive the marketing of the hospital by understanding, identifying and addressing the needs of the target market and local community including understanding competitor strategies

Ensuring the achievement of the hospital’s financial targets by:

  • Preparing and monitoring annual budgets with management in order to implement corrective actions as required
  • Planning and delivering Capex projects on time and within the specified budget
  • Managing revenue, cost of sales, overheads, EBITDA and working capital
  • In all of the above identify trends, using root cause analysis, and implement remedial action where necessary through effective use of heads of department and Enabling functions as required

Effective hospital operations management through:

  • Driving the optimal functioning of hospital operations, identifying and monitoring gaps and risks and implement corrective action accordingly
  • Maintaining quality patient care standards
  • Effective relationship management with doctors
  • Driving doctor attraction and retention and co-ordinating and participating, where applicable, in the optimal functioning of the Medical Advisory Committee
  • Effective quality systems management
  • Driving improvement of quality metrics and implementation of LHC standardised complaints management system
  • Drive retention of ISO certification and ensure compliance to clinical benchmarking
  • Actively lead and market quality in LHC as it relates to staff, doctors and other stakeholders

Ensuring effective people management by:

  • Demonstrating visible leadership in respect of LHC values, operating model and strategy
  • Actively sponsoring LHC initiatives and projects as it relates to hospital
  • Actively lead and manage hospital MANCO and ensure participation from all parties to achieve strategic objectives

Effective governance and risk management by:

  • Investigate specialist doctor openings at the hospital and source new specialist doctors as and when required.
  • Develop a hospital strategy for business growth, specific to new doctors and specialists.
  • Investigate the economic conditions surrounding business activity such as industry trends and competition, including but not limited to legislative and regulatory aspects in the Healthcare sector.
  • Identify marketing opportunities by identifying customer requirements; defining market, competitor's share and competitor's strengths and weaknesses; forecasting projected business and establishing targeted market share.

Ensure correct and timeous finalisation of cases to facilitate reimbursements from funders of claims

Consistently and timeously communicate with Funders as contractually agreed through the relevant case management channels

Ensure clinical coding standards are adhered to as per Level 3 coding guideline

Lead and manage the people in the Case Management team (if applicable)

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION: Clinical qualification

DESIRED EDUCATION: Registered Nurse / Professional Nurse or qualified Paramedic

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years in a clinical role

DESIRED EXPERIENCE: Experience in Theatre and or ICU; Medical aid background; Experience in private healthcare environment or experience as an ILS/ALS Paramedic

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Understanding of anatomy; physiology and medical terminology
  • Funder Contracts; Medical aid requirements/narrations
  • Scientific nursing principles and process
  • Authorisation and motivation of Level of Care; Length of Stay; Clinical Coding, high-cost stock, Short Payments etc.
  • Use of electronic systems (i.e. B2B or Funder portals) for the purposes of requesting authorisations, performing case management updates and for troubleshooting)
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, hospital/practice management systems)
  • Relevant aspects of applicable statutory acts (e.g. Consumer Protection Act; PMB; etc.)
  • Patient Administration policies and procedures (e.g. Patient Confidentiality; Visitation of external case managers; etc.)
  • Daily workflow; managing deviances; clinical coding; and case management processes
  • Application of clinical codes and finalisation thereof
