We are looking for an experienced and qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our workshop team. You will be responsible for repairs and maintenance for all our mobile equipment, including light and heavy trucks, excavators, loaders, rollers, compactors and more. Your role would work between our workshops in Queenstown as well as travelling to site when required.
Key attributes include:
• A trade Certification in heavy diesel machinery
• Ideally 2 years’ experience within a workshop environment maintaining and repairing a range of light and heavy plant and equipment

The TMM Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of diesel-powered TMM equipment used in mining and construction operations. The role ensures optimal equipment performance, safety compliance, and minimal downtime to support operational efficiency.
- Qualifications: Relevant Diesel Mechanic trade certification, Sec 13 or Sec 26(D) with a Statement of Results/copy of your apprentice contract .
- Experience:
- At least 3 years of practical Diesel Mechanic experience, with Trackless Machines being essential.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and schematics.
- Certificates:
- Grade 12 certificate.
- N2 qualification with relevant subjects.
- Medical Fitness: Must be medically fit and able to pass a Mining Heat Tolerance Screening (HTS).
- General:
·Proven experience in fault finding and repairing applicable systems on underground mining TMM such as FERMEL, Land Cruisers, Magni Telehandlers, Manitou Telehandlers, CAT Skid-steer and Getman agicars.
- Knowledge of maintenance management systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
- Good communication skills in English.
- Willingness to work shifts, standby duties, call-outs, and overtime as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will perform the following duties, but not limited to:
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on all TMM diesel equipment, including loaders, dump trucks, LDVs, and utility vehicles.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults in diesel engines and associated systems.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and safety checks as per OEM and company standards.
- Record and report all maintenance activities, defects, and parts usage accurately in maintenance management systems.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns, assess the situation, and implement effective solutions to minimize operational delays.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Ensure all work is carried out with proper use of PPE and in compliance with site safety protocols and legal requirements.
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other team members to coordinate maintenance schedules and resolve technical issues.
- Advise on the procurement of spare parts, tools, and consumables required for TMM maintenance.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and training programs to enhance technical skills and safety awareness.
- Complete risk assessments and job safety analyses prior to commencing work.
- Ensure compliance with South African labour law, equipment accountability, and workplace policies.

The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a fleet of trucks, vehicles, and trailers. This role requires experience in mechanical work on heavy-duty vehicles and a readiness to respond to breakdowns as needed.
The successful candidate must be technically skilled and committed to ensuring the safe operation of all vehicles. Standby availability for after-hours support is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct fault finding, repairs, and maintenance on heavy-duty trucks, Vehicles, and trailers.
- Perform servicing and mechanical inspections according to service schedules
- Repair and replace engines, gearboxes, clutches, brakes, and suspension systems
- Use diagnostic tools and testing procedures to identify issues
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used
- Ensure repairs meet company quality and safety standards
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the workshop and around vehicles
- Work efficiently to reduce vehicle downtime
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
- Attend to after-hours breakdowns as part of a standby rotation
- Provide technical support for vehicle inspections and roadworthy checks
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations

- Qualified Diesel Mechanic (Trade Tested / Red Seal)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working on heavy-duty trucks
- Proficient in mechanical diagnostics and repairs
- Experience with fleet vehicle servicing
- Willing to be on standby for after-hours support
