The Business Intelligence and Business Analyst will be responsible for gathering, analysing, and understanding business users’ data and analytics requirements and translating these requirements into analytics best practice technical solutions that meet the relevant business objectives. This role requires extensive experience in both business processes and technical systems to ensure that technology solutions are aligned with business goals. This is a hybrid role that requires 3-4 days onsite in Cape Town.

Key Responsibilities and/or output areas include, but are not limited to:

Advanced Requirements Gathering and Analysis:

  • Lead the collection and documentation of business and technical requirements from stakeholders.
  • Conduct in-depth feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and risk assessments for proposed solutions.

Complex Data Model Design and Development:

  • Translate business requirements into functional and technical specifications.
  • Design and propose data models, including process models, specifications, and architecture, and collaborate with developers on data solutions.

Implementation and Quality Assurance:

  • Liaise with developers, vendors, and IT teams to ensure data models are accurately implemented.
  • Assist with system testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), validation, and quality assurance.
  • Support the deployment and integration of new data models or enhancements.

Maintenance and Continuous Improvement:

  • Provide expert-level support and maintenance for existing data models.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for data model improvements and enhancements.
  • Implement updates and improvements to existing data models as needed.

Documentation and Training:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive data model documentation, including user manuals, technical guides, and process diagrams.
  • Conduct training sessions and provide advanced support to end-users and stakeholders on data model functionalities and best practices.

Experience:

Minimum:

  • At least 3 years of proven experience in drafting functional specifications.
  • BI Business Analysis, data design, and systems analysis experience in a data and analytics environment.
  • Stakeholder engagement for the purpose of identifying and specifying business requirements.

The role is responsible for the design and delivery of robust reporting and data visualisation solutions that support operational and analytical needs.

    Key responsibilities

    • Conduct impact assessments to understand and mitigate risks to systems and business processes.
    • Obtain, manipulate and analyse business data to derive insights.
    • Develop dashboards and reports to provide insights for decision making and help highlight trends and patterns in data sets.
    • Provide technical support for simple support requests and resolve timeously.
    • Write SQL queries where applicable or utilise data solutions tool sets.
    • Test and validate solutions in accordance with specification and user requirements.
    • Visualize data using appropriate tools.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

    • Business degree with Analytical/Commercial subjects, Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent NQF level 8 qualification
    • Minimum 5+ years’ Business Intelligence experience
    • Experience with test-driven development
    • BI Analysis, data design or analysis experience in a data and analytics environment
    • Advanced working knowledge of SQL
    • Retail knowledge and experience will be an advantage
    • Proficient in Google Workspace, MS Office Suite, Qlik/BO, Data/looker Studio and GCP will be advantageous
    • A curious self-starter who takes initiative, investigates problems, see possibilities and takes action
    • Competencies required : Devotion to Quality, Accurate, Assertive, Cooperation, Analysing and forming opinions, market orientation, Integrity, Drive.

    Job Summary:

    As a Business Intelligence Analyst you will be responsible for transforming complex data into clear, actionable insights through dashboards, reporting, and analysis to support data-driven decision-making across the business.

    Day to day this role will

    • Translate business requirements into actionable insights by working closely with stakeholders to understand goals, KPIs, and data needs.

    • Design, build, and maintain dashboards and reports using BI tools (e.g., Power BI or Quicksight) to support decision-making across the business.

    • Extract, transform, and analyse data from various sources using SQL or other tools, ensuring high data quality and consistency.

    • Identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in data to provide meaningful and data-driven business recommendations.

    • Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to ensure the right data structures, definitions, and pipelines are in place for reliable reporting.

    • Develop and maintain KPIs and performance metrics that help track progress toward strategic objectives.

    • Present insights and analysis clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, using storytelling to influence decisions.

    • Ensure data integrity and governance compliance by applying best practices in data handling, documentation, and access controls.

    • Support self-serve analytics adoption by creating reusable data models, semantic layers, and user-friendly reporting assets.

    • Continuously improve BI processes and tools, exploring automation opportunities and staying up-to-date with best practices and new features.

    What we’re looking for

    • Proven experience in BI, data analysis, or a related role, ideally within Fintech, or fast-paced data-driven environment.

    • Strong SQL skills for querying, transforming, and analysing data from relational databases.

    • High proficiency in BI tools such as Power BI or Amazon Quicksight for building dashboards and reports.

    • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn data into clear business insights.

    • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to present complex data in a simple, compelling way to both technical and non-technical audiences.

    • Experience working with large datasets, and ability to clean, validate, and manipulate data for analysis.

    • Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and integrity.

    • Strong sense of collaboration.

    Desirable:

    • Hands-on experience with data platforms like Snowflake or Databricks

    • Solid understanding of data modeling and data warehousing concepts, including dimensions, facts, and star/snowflake schemas.

    • Familiarity with version control systems like Git, particularly when working in collaborative or production-level analytics environments.

    • Familiar with customer segmentation, churn analysis, lifetime value analysis.

    • Experience creating semantic layers or curated data models to support self-serve BI adoption.

    • Comfort working in Agile or cross-functional data teams, including familiarity with tools like Jira, Confluence, or Notion for collaboration.
