Our client, a leading manufacturer in the textile and garment sector, is seeking an experienced and operationally strong Factory Manager to oversee a large-scale clothing production facility in the Piet Retief / Southern Eswatini region.
This role requires a dynamic leader who is hands-on, results-driven, and comfortable managing production at scale within a high-output environment.
Industry: Large-scale Garment Factory | ±500–1000 Staff | Gerber Systems | Wovens & Knitwear.
Salary: Above-Market related available/negotiable for the right exp. Factory Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Full accountability for day-to-day garment production operations across all departments.
- Oversee staffing, scheduling, performance, quality, and throughput for 500–1000 factory employees.
- Lead production planning, line efficiency, cost control, and delivery scheduling.
- Manage technical operations including Gerber automated cutting systems, sewing machinery, and finishing equipment.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, labour, and quality standards in both South African and cross-border (Eswatini) contexts.
- Drive continuous improvement, waste reduction, and productivity optimisation using lean principles.
- Mentor and lead multi-level production and technical teams with a focus on stability, quality, and performance.
Requirements:
- National Diploma or Degree in: Textile Technology, Production/Operations Management, or Industrial Engineering
- Alt.: Recognised certifications in Garment Manufacturing, Lean Production, or Factory Management.
- Advanced MS Excel and factory MIS/ERP systems exp. will be beneficial.
- 8–12+ years of hands-on exp. managing high-volume garment/textile manufacturing plants.
- Strong leadership background in factories producing wovens, knitwear, or both.
- Demonstrated track record of managing 500+ staff across technical, supervisory, and production lines.
Advanced knowledge of Gerber technology (marker planning, cutting room efficiency) and industrial garment equipment.
Strong production planning, cost control, and quality assurance capabilities.
This role is based on-site and would ideally suit candidates residing in or willing to relocate to the Piet Retief or Southern Eswatini border region.

Key Responsibilities:
Safety Program Development & Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive HSE programs, policies, and procedures tailored to the hazards of a textile manufacturing environment, aligned with ISO45001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and job hazard analyses (JHAs) to identify and mitigate potential hazards, focusing on chemical handling, machinery safety, and fire prevention.
- Oversee safety management of hazardous materials in compliance with all regulations (OHS Act).
- Develop and manage emergency response plans for scenarios like chemical spills, fires, riots, bomb threats, and medical emergencies.
Training & Communication:
- Develop and deliver effective HSE training programs for all entrants to the site, including new hires, visitors, contractors, and employees. This includes orientation, refreshers, and specialized training such as LOTO, CSE, PPE, and PTW.
- Promote a strong safety culture through regular communication such as Toolbox Talks, safety meetings, and safety-related information dissemination.
- Serve as the primary contact for HSE-related inquiries and concerns from employees and management.
Safety Inspection, Audits & Compliance:
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with HSE regulations and company policies.
- Prepare and submit HSE reports and documentation to regulatory agencies (e.g., OHSA reports).
- Lead incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor and track HSE performance KPIs such as incident rates, training completion, and audit findings.
Factory Process Environmental Safety Management:
- Manage risks associated with hazardous materials, ensuring proper handling, containment, and disposal.
- Oversee the safe handling of chemicals and hazardous substances used in the textile process.
- Ensure availability, maintenance, and proper use of PPE by employees.
Requirements:
- Matric with Math’s Pure or Math’s Literacy and English.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Safety Management, Environmental Science/Management, or a related field.
- 5-8 years of experience as an HSE Officer or similar role in manufacturing.
- Proven experience in a Major Hazardous Installation or Chemical processing plant is highly preferred.
- Experience in the textile industry is a significant advantage.
- Professional/Recognized Safety certification is required.
