- F2103/NPI Process

Handling of Customer samples

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Engineer is a key technical role within the Design and Engineering department that plays a critical part in shaping the thermal and airflow design strategy for current and future Teraco data center facilities. The role involves working across multiple disciplines and collaborate with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and architects to simulate and validate airflow dynamics within our data center facility both internally (within data halls, white space, hot/cold aisles, containment systems) and externally (site-level airflow, generator airflow, building envelope performance, and environmental impact). This position requires an innovative mindset with great technical depth that will influence major design decisions that impact operational excellence, energy efficiency, and sustainability while maintaining industry best practices and standards.
MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and execute CFD simulations to analyse airflow distribution, temperature profiles, and pressure differentials for internal airflow (e.g. containment design, equipment thermal performance, rack heat load analysis).
• Conduct external CFD analysis to evaluate the effects of wind loading, HVAC exhaust recirculation, generator airflow, and environmental heat transfer.
• Interpret simulation results and provide data-backed design recommendations to optimize cooling strategies (e.g., hot aisle/cold aisle containment, CRAC/CRAH placement, perforated tile layouts).
• Liaise with Lead Design Engineers, MEP consultants, and architect to integrate CFD results into facility design basis of design documents.

• Develop thermal models of existing and proposed data center layouts, considering equipment loads and airflow obstructions.

• Support capacity planning by evaluating thermal impacts of IT equipment deployment or infrastructure upgrades.
• Create technical documentation, simulation reports, and presentations for internal stakeholders and external clients.
• Ensure CFD simulations are aligned with ASHRAE thermal guidelines and company performance targets.
• Stay updated with the latest CFD tools, cooling technologies, and best practices in data center thermal management.
• Collaborate with Data Analytic and BMS team in developing energy efficiency report
Compliance
• Maintain compliance in accordance with all relative policies and procedures
• Support the HR department in achieving the organization developmental plan deliverables within agreed timelines.
• Meet agreed inter-departmental OLA (Operational Level Agreement).
• H&S monitoring and corrective action to meet statutory compliance, SLAs and good business practice.
• Implement company and departmental policies, processes, and work instructions as per the agreed quality and timeline/ RFS.
• Develop working methods to reduce or maintain Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) levels.
• Task finalization and report accurately, as per agreed format, quality and within the agreed timelines
• Maintain ISO 14001 and 50001 certification, and drive action plans & reporting to achieve the objectives applicable to their respective site.

Requirements
SKILLS REQUIREMENT
• Proficient in CFD pre-processing and meshing, solver setup, and post-processing analysis.
• Strong understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and cooling strategies in technical spaces
• Familiarity with data center infrastructure (IT racks, containment systems, raised floors, etc.).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative team player with experience working in multi-disciplinary engineering environments
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings
• Knowledge of South African codes, standards, and environmental compliance
• Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE TC 9.9, Uptime Institute, TIA-942) is advantageous.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• 3+ years of relevant experience in CFD modelling, preferably within data center environments.
• Strong working knowledge of CFD software such as Candence, ANSYS Fluent, 6SigmaDCX, Autodesk CFD, or similar platforms.

- Assist Product Development Group during product or process development and ensure a smooth industrialization of the equipment.
- Evaluation, specification and optimization of present operational systems in terms of effectiveness.
- Attend and participate in technical meetings
- Compiling and reviewing process related documentation.
People Management and Development
- Establish interfaces between suppliers, operations and clients to provide process specifications as required to fully implement process improvements.
- Provides technically innovative mentorship to plant personnel to aid the simplification of process and manages students to develop technical skills needed for plant support.
Financial Management
- Gives input to annual budgets & forecasts. Measures and controls costs and overhead expenditure. Originates capital expenditure proposals
- Tracks progress to cost containment initiatives and manages and reports regularly.
Compliance to Legislation and Business Systems
- Ensure designs, projects, modifications and installations adhere to appropriate regulations within OHS Act and Explosive Act.
- Adheres and Implements Rheinmetall Denel Munitions Policies and Procedures and ensures compliance to ISO Standards with respect to SHE/Quality/Environmental
What Qualifications You Should Have
- B-Tech / B-Eng. / B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering.
- At least 7 Years' experience in a manufacturing environment of which 3 years should have been in a leadership role
- Project Management qualification will be a distinct advantage
- Process Safety Management qualification and experience will be a distinct advantage
- Broad experience in a development and manufacturing environment (Explosive / Engineering / Technical).
- In depth knowledge of SHE/Quality Systems, other computerized project management tools and process improvements techniques.
- Fully computer literate and has excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Experience with ERP / MES systems.
- Advanced systems engineering training.

Self-motivated, independent and tenacious individual who is results driven.
A team player with good interpersonal skills and the capability to interact with people at all levels.
Analytical and a strategic thinker with good judgement.

Your future role
Take on a new challenge and apply your engineering and manufacturing expertise in a cutting-edge field. You'll work alongside collaborative, innovative, and forward-thinking teammates.
You'll play a critical role in ensuring product and process designs are optimized for manufacturability, driving industrialization resources across all phases of production. Day-to-day, you'll work closely with teams across the business (EHS, Production, Project Management, Finance, Sourcing, and Supply Chain), manage the implementation of standard processes, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, among other responsibilities.
You'll specifically take care of managing industrialization activities, deploying and maintain methodologies like ICONE, P-FMEA, and QRQC, but also lead the engineering team to support carbody manufacturing and delivery.
We'll look to you for:
- Ensuring the implementation of standard processes and product solutions and where established, monitor and maintain existing processes
- Validating manufacturability and transferability using validated technologies
- Driving continuous improvement actions to support production
- Deploying industrialization standards, including EHS and ergonomics
- Managing staff capacity, competencies, and end-to-end people management
- Ensuring compliance with ISO, quality certifications, and legal requirements
All about you

- Degree in Engineering (mandatory)
- Welding qualification (mandatory)
- Lean Manufacturing certificate (desirable)
- ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer (desirable)
- 10+ years of industrial experience, preferably in the railway industry
- Proven ability to manage a team of engineers and technicians
- Technical expertise in Process Engineering, Lean Manufacturing, and ERP systems like SAP
- Working knowledge of Quality, Health & Safety standards, and OSHACT
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and networking skills
- Financial acumen and result-driven mindset
- Advanced planning, organizing, and decision-making skills
