The Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the processing laboratory during their assigned shift. This includes supervising employees, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and maintaining the highest standards of product quality and safety.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Overseeing the receipt, inspection, handling, and processing of whole blood into separate components, ensuring all are handled, stored, and processed according to established procedures and guidelines.
  2. Maintaining accurate and complete records of blood components processed and product disposition.
  3. Ensuring proper storage and handling of blood components to prevent loss and minimize blood supply risks, including temperature monitoring and damage prevention.
  4. Participating in quality improvement initiatives by collaborating with other departments to identify and implement enhancements.
  5. Communicating effectively with employees and stakeholders, providing clear information, and addressing queries professionally.
  6. Ensuring automated processing equipment is maintained, serviced, calibrated per SOPs and manufacturer specifications, with records kept accordingly.
  7. Supervising trainees and signing off on their competency development.
