Our client in the Property Sector is requiring a Fire Protection Officer to join their team
The purpose of this role is to oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Perform on-site assessments and deliver guidance to optimize team performance and project outcomes
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels of materials and equipment required for projects
- Conduct routine safety inspections and enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
- Liaise with contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth execution and customer satisfaction
- Prepare and submit detailed progress and risk management reports to management
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments and advancements in fire protection technology and standards
- Compile fire risk assessments and ensure that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the fire protection industry
- N3 Plumbing or Electrical
- Knowledge of fire protection systems, including sprinkler systems, fire alarms, and suppression
- systems, pumps and electrical motors
- Basic understanding of relevant codes and standards and local building codes
Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to different job sites as required.

Key Performance Outputs
The successful candidate, reporting to the Manager Fire and Rescue will be responsible for the following:
- Ensure compliance to legislative requirements (CAA - Civil Aviation Authority; ICAO - International Civil Aviation Organization and Municipal by laws).
- Ensure the buildings comply with legislation, signage, escape routes, fire extinguishers, hose reels; as per SANS - South African National Standards.
- Analysis of current systems and implementation thereof where required.
- Ensure regular site visits and inspections with staff.
- Conduct training on fire prevention.
- Develop and maintain a fire prevention plan.
- Develop and implement a stakeholder auditing system.
- Conduct SANS audits and building evacuations.
- Ensure that all fire equipment is serviceable.
- Produce monthly reports on Fire Prevention status.
- Build, support and maintain healthy diverse internal and external relationships.
- Maintain appropriate levels of interaction with airport stakeholders.
- Provide fire prevention awareness to CIA users
- Work closely with Aviation Safety and Infrastructure asset management to ensure that insurance cover and that risk are mitigated.
Technical Skills And Experience
The following skills and experience or the equivalent of such, will be required:
- The successful candidate must have a valid Matric (Grade 12) qualification
- Relevant Diploma or equivalent, based on the job requirements within the position.
- A code EC driver's licence with driving experience is essential.
- Detailed knowledge of Airside, Landside and Terminal Operations.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation, statutory requirements and Standard operating procedures.
- At least 3 years' experience in Fire and Rescue is essential.
- Proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be reporting to the Supervisor Fire and Rescue, and will be responsible but not limited to the following:

- Operate Fire Fighting and Rescue Equipment and Tools
- Ensure understanding of vehicle and/or equipment and limitations to ensure utilisation within design parameters.
- Conduct routine inspections, maintenance and reporting of defects when required and follow up.
- Adhere to relevant statutory/legislative regulations, SOP's, operational standards, ACSA policies and procedures, employee manual and Service Level Agreements/MOU to ensure business continuity.
- Activate and respond to all relevant incidents and accidents within area of jurisdiction, scope of training and expertise.
- Conduct emergency standbys to prevent incidents and accidents as requested.
- Analyse, Monitor, identify, mitigate and report areas of non-compliance (HIRA).Conduct Runway, Taxi-way and Apron inspections and patrols to reduce potential hazards, notify ATC and take remedial action if necessary.
- Build, support and maintain healthy diverse internal (peers, unions, team) as well as external (service providers etc.) relationships and implement remedial actions where required to ensure achievement of organisational goals and enhance emergency response preparedness.
- Record and capture information for billing purposes. (Flight Information Display screens real-time).
- Participate in educational Fire and Safety awareness programmes.
- Maintain level of physical fitness as per ACSA policies and procedures.
- Attend identified development programmes for succession planning purposes.
- Attend mandatory Aviation training as per ACSA policies and procedures and legislative requirements.
- Respond to all medical emergencies within area of jurisdiction and scope of training.
Technical Skills And Experience
The following skills and experience or the equivalent of such will be required:
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) is essential
- SAESI Fire Fighter 1 is essential
- SAESI Hazmat Awareness is essential
- HPCSA BAA/ First Aid Level 3 is essential
- 1 month Aircraft marshalling Operational experience is essential
- Up to 6 months Fire Fighting & Rescue Operational experience is recommended
- Valid Code B driver's licence
- AVOP ATC – PARTAC licence
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
