The Financial Planning and Analysis Analyst position is responsible for analysing financial data to uncover trends, variances, and key performance drivers. The Analyst plays a critical role in supporting financial planning and strategic decision-making by delivering accurate reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. Through strong business partnering and collaboration with stakeholders, the Analyst ensures clear communication of financial performance and identifies opportunities to enhance business outcomes.

The Financial Planning and Analysis Analyst will be reporting to the Senior Commercial Analyst. This post is based at Goodwood.

Principal Accountabilities:

Performance Monitoring

  • Prepare local monthly management accounts and other financial reports.
  • Assist with preparation and review group management accounts.
  • Monitor financial performance across various business units and prepare regular updates and reports on financial performance.

Financial Planning:

  • Compile budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans.

Financial Analysis:

  • Conduct detailed analysis of financial data to identify trends, variances, and key performance metrics.
  • Assist in analysing business performance by gathering and organizing data to support insights and decision-making.
  • Conduct margin analysis to identify trends and variances.
  • Analyse cost drivers.
  • Assist in assessing the financial impact of strategic initiatives.
  • Provide data and analysis to support financial strategies.
  • Assist in identifying operational improvements.

Financial Modeling:

  • Build and refine dynamic financial models.

Financial Operations Support:

  • Provide Africa Finance with relevant accruals, provisions and corrections journals.

Business Partnering and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with stakeholders at all levels, building strong relationships and ensuring effective communication of financial insights.
  • Support the Senior Commercial Analyst and Financial Director with ad hoc FP&A and Business Partnering responsibilities

Internal Control:

  • Control environment; Identification and flagging of financial, operational and compliance business risks for implementation of appropriate applicable controls

Qualifications and Experience

  • A bachelor's Commerce in Accounting or Finance (Honours degree in Accounting or Finance Advantageous)
  • 4-5 years' experience in FP&A financial analysis, management accounting or a related finance role
  • Studying towards the ACMA, CGMA (CIMA) qualification (Advantageous)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, financial modeling, and reporting.
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including scenario analysis and valuation techniques.
  • Experience in budgeting and forecasting, with the ability to manage and improve planning processes.
  • Working knowledge of SAP for financial data extraction and reporting.
  • Proficiency in Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Qlik Sense, Power BI, or similar platforms for data visualisation and performance tracking.

The Partner Assistant supports the Financial Planning Partner(s) in providing the required levels of client services

administrative, operations and client services support to the Financial Planning Partner and is the liaison person

between the practice and the regional office / head office.

  • Administration relating to client transfer and new business transactions.
  • Submission of intermediary appointment notes to relevant PPs.
  • Monitoring the submission of intermediary appointment notes to ensure clients successfully

transfer to the license group and that ongoing fees are received from the relevant PPs.

  • Capture and checking of new business documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy in

alignment to the lodgment rules.

  • Submission of new business application(s), together with supporting documentation to relevant PPs.
  • Monitoring the underwriting and acceptance of new business transactions.
  • Arranging medicals for clients where required and follow up on outstanding requirements to ensure

new business transactions are confirmed by the relevant PPs timeously.

  • Providing an ongoing service and maintenance support function to the Financial Planning Partner

and his / her clients.

  • Check Commission statements from CommPay (internal commission module linked to CRM) and

PPs. Manage commission suspense accounts aligned to compliant new business lodgment.

  • Escalate with PPs regarding commissions / fees due to the Financial Planning Partner.
  • Operational support for Portfolio Managers and CRMs
  • Assistants align with the PCS CRMs to ensure complete pre-population of PCS mandates and

applications.

  • All instructions to PM and CRMs initiated and maintained via XPlan (company’s internal CRM) tasks.
  • IT & Systems
  • Preparation of client portfolio’s using Astute and / or product provider information. Ensuring XPlan

Policy Schedules are up to date and accurate.

  • Data capture of client demographic data on client relationship management system XPlan.
  • Client financial data capture (ASTUTE, PPs and manual).
  • Data integration between XPlan and Integrated Wealth Planning for handover to BDM or Financial

Planning Partner.

  • Upload scanned copies of all documentation into xPlan (including relevant client file checklist(s)).
  • Ensure proper record keeping in line with business rules and where relevant, legislation & safe

storage into XPlan.

  • Distribute communication(s) to clients as stipulated in the client management plan. (Auto

communication registration and health keeping)

  • Distribute communication(s) to clients as requested by the Financial Planning Partner via xPlan.
  • Extensive use of XPlan notes and tasks to manage client records and organization of practice.
  • Prepare for clients reviews as per client review template.
  • Client review preparation by producing and checking the Client Consolidated Reports (CCR) from

NAV (the company’s proprietary software that manages all aspects of the Partner’s practice).

  • Maintain an accurate diary system. (XPlan & Outlook integration)
  • Address all technology issues experienced by the Financial Planning Partner and facilitate the

solution - liaison with the IT support desk etc.

  • NAV & KPIs
  • Full awareness and understanding of information available on NAV to support the Financial Planning

Partner(s).

  • Track and monitor personal KPIs on NAV.
  • Request assistance and guidance from POM where KPI scores reflect gaps.
  • Liaise and orientate with the Financial Planning Partner on all data and practice attributes on NAV.
  • Marketing Support
  • Assist with the organization of client events in conjunction with the events coordinator i.e. booking

venues, RSVP management, event management etc.

  • Assisting Financial Planning Partners at client events.
  • Function as a primary point of contact for clients thus strengthening client relationships.
  • Office Management
  • Support the general office management including reception, facilities, meeting room management,

stationery, marketing material etc.

  • Submit orders for stationery, business cards, marketing brochures, client folders etc. to the

Partnership Operations Manager timeously to avoid running out of stock.

Knowledge:

  • Financial Services Industry
  • Understanding of FAIS and FICA legislation

Financial Analyst Position

A leading organisation is looking for a Financial Analyst to join their team for an 8-month contract. The organisation is seeking someone to start immediately. The main purpose of the role is to provide financial analysis and cost reporting for the Cape Town Refinery as part of the Finance Team.

Responsibilities:

  1. Process monthly opex accruals & ensure monthly account reconciliations are performed on time. Liaise with BU contacts to ensure accrued items are timeously cleared from the accruals account.
  2. Produce monthly cost reporting & coordinate cost review meetings with cost centre owners. Leverage financial acumen to influence business decision-making with the goal of meeting opex budgetary targets.
  3. Perform monthly variance analysis of actual vs budget on operating expenses (opex) and provide explanations for variances for submission to head office reporting team and other stakeholders (EXCO, ultimate shareholder).
  4. Coordinate monthly 24-month rolling forecast for refinery opex – gather inputs from key stakeholders, review for reasonability and accuracy, consolidate, present for business unit leader approval.
  5. Coordinate annual opex business planning – gather inputs from key stakeholders, review for reasonability and accuracy, consolidate, present for business unit leader approval.
  6. Prepare and present divisional opex financial reports and variance explanations as required by Refinery Leadership Team at monthly governance meeting.

Requirements:

  1. Fully qualified CA(SA) or CIMA non-negotiable.
  2. 2-5 years of experience post qualification highly preferable, especially experience in cost analysis and reporting.
  3. Strong financial, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, with ability and confidence to work well with a broad spectrum of personnel across the organization and constructively provide guidance within a team environment.
  5. SAP experience knowledge would count in candidate’s favour.
