JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Merit Field Investigator will ensure that all flagged and segmented claims are comprehensively investigated to achieve conclusive results. The successful incumbent will maintain credibility by ensuring that all investigations are conducted in accordance with the Santam Claims Policy and Philosophy and Standard Operating Procedures and appropriate forensic investigation practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Handling of disputes that could arise between Motor merit field and intermediaries and/or claimants.
- Investigate and collate information on flagged claims.
- Conduct a field investigation on the claim.
- Review the claims documents and photos to validate the claim.
- Handle claim queries within the agreed service levels.
- Handle customers effectively and fairly in line with TCF.
- Finalisation of completed investigations within the agreed turnaround times.
- Regular liaison with management and staff at all levels of the company regarding high risk claims escalated/flagged.
- Consultation with clients, Third parties, Business and Business Partners on a continuous basis regarding fraud and irregularities.
- Regular liaison with counterparts at other insurers.
- Regular liaison with Santam Forensic Services.
- Maintaining relationships with external resources as part collaboration, source of information and investigation purposes.
- Matric/Grade 12
- Tertiary National Diploma or University Degree would be advantageous
- Short Term Motor Insurance experience 3 years or more
- Background in investigative work within the South African Police Services would be beneficial.
- 2-3 years’ claims merit theft investigation experience
- Understanding of how to handle Motor Theft Claims
- Previous experience in the investigation of motor theft claims
- Strong analytical abilities and evaluate trends objectively

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
1. Kidnapping & Incident Management:
You will work closely with senior consultants, by observing and assisting them during all stages of kidnapping and incident management, from initial assessment to resolution, gaining insight into their decision-making processes and techniques.
2. Case Documentation:
You will be responsible for organising and maintaining case files, including relevant communications, reports, and documentation, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality at all times.
3. Research and Analysis:
Conduct research on global kidnapping trends, relevant legal frameworks, and best practices in crisis management, providing valuable insights to support decision-making and strategy development.
4. Client Communication:
Assist in liaising with clients, government agencies, law enforcement, and other stakeholders, under the guidance of senior consultants, to facilitate effective communication and collaboration throughout the crisis management process.
5. Participating in Training Exercises:
Participate in simulated exercises and training sessions designed to simulate real-life kidnapping scenarios, honing your negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills in a controlled environment.
6. Continuous Learning and Development:
Actively seek opportunities for learning and skill development, attending workshops, seminars, and relevant training programs to enhance your understanding of crisis management principles and techniques.
